@jmbunkin@yakkoTDI
I’ve got to have a closable top. Both to prevent spills and wearing the drink if upset.
Those Bubba ones were good. Except for the tab that closed the drink opening would break in half early.
@Brandizzle@Coldwyn If it’s a “standard” screw top size, then there would be items you could order with the type of lid you want. Brands like Yeti and HydroFlask offer them. Not sure if they would be a compatible size.
But you will find the lids might cost more than the $/bottle for these flasks.
@tweezak Yeah, but does it still have a broken Chameleon Circuit? Or do you just like it looking like an old timey Police Box? And have you changed the desktop recently?
@tweezak That’s fair. I remember Doctor Who on PBS for years but often forget that was the 1980s & I’m over half a century old. Let’s just say I never grew out of my Doctor Who phase, even during the show’s hiatus.
I used to buy bottles like these, but I had an issue where if I used anything other than water, the flavor or smell of the drink is always there.
I did some research and found out that this is bacteria that doesn’t exactly come out with a basic wash, and you need to use baking soda and some long soaking techniques.
Either that. Or a UV light because there are self-cleaning bottles with UV lights that don’t have this issue, but they cost a ton.
I kind of want one, though. Please get them, meh. Those things are like 90 dollars on Amazon, there’s no way anyone is buying them.
@AaronLeeJohnson Warm water and a denture cleaning tablet will have the inside like new in a couple of hours. Mine usually take around a year to start smelling funky, though.
@AaronLeeJohnson@brennyn@sammydog01 A side effect is that the water you put in will taste like mint for months. (Also of note, citrus antibacterial soap has the same long-lasting soapy aftertaste.)
@PooltoyWolf We have multiple brands and sizes of stainless double-insulated vessel, and we run all of them through the dishwasher. The lids always go in the top rack when we do this. We also never use the heat-dry misfeature because it destroys random things, and that might be how we get away with this. Your mileage may vary.
@PooltoyWolf I also put all my bottles, tumblers, etc in the dishwaxher. Honestly, our house accumulates enough of these as corporate swag etc that I don’t mind if I lose a few. (And based on the shelves and shelves of travel mugs and water bottles at thrift stores, I’m not alone.)
@werehatrack This, this, this! I almost never use the heating element dryer. That device is probably the primary reason a lot of stuff says not dishwasher safe! It’s really just not immune to melting. I did have one stainless steel water bottle get ruined in the dishwasher - the paint came completely off it.
@PooltoyWolf@werehatrack My Contigos are dishwasher safe. The tops are top rack only. There is a Push To Clean lever, which should be opened so the Autoseal mechanism will get clean.
My water bottles are sealed except during cleaning or when I am actively pressing the “Autoseal” button so I can drink. Since they seal so fast, they don’t spill even if dropped while I am taking a drink. They do get dented when dropped on concrete floors. I had to replace my first set after two years because they weren’t flat on the bottom any more.
I won’t buy the kind on sale today, since they aren’t designed for klutzes like me.
@dasanti1@TheyCallMeKate I have these and the tervis site only mentions cold. I use them for tea and they’re great (with the spout lid). I wonder if they’re worried about lawsuits from people spilling scalding coffee all over themselves- these don’t cool off like open top ones plus you can’t blow on it to cool it off.
That could be it regarding the lid. Most of the hot beverage ones have a slot or a spout. If you have to remove the lid it compromises it’s usefulness.
@dasanti1@TheyCallMeKate Mine came with a spout, it’s the standard top. But if you put tea or coffee in there it will burn you for hours. I add ice and check before I drink. I go to the movies a lot and a nice cup of tea is great.
@mrshl@troy I use the spout lids, they spill once in a while but for the most part they’re fine. I’m trying to make a bunch of tea in the morning so I don’t reach for those cans of soda and these should work.
/giphy relished- virtuous-sneeze
Can believe that they keep drinks cold for 60 hours-we have Tervis glasses and I put ice in them at night and the next morning still some ice in them and the water is still cold and they are uncovered.
These days, manufacturers are required to line copper drinking vessels with something that won’t dissolve. What could they mean by “copper-lined 18/8 stainless steel”? If copper is exposed to an acidic drink, it will leech copper salts into the drink. Those will contribute to the flavor of the beverage.
Long ago, this was a feature of Moscow Mules served in copper mugs. However, too much copper is bad for you. The US RDA for copper is 900 micrograms. Webmd says that anything less than 10 milligrams (10,000 micrograms) per day is probably safe. However, an entire gram can be fatal.
So are these lined with copper and then that is lined with something else? Copper is a very good thermal conductor. Why would anyone use a good conductor to make an insulated container? Stainless steel doesn’t need to be lined with anything.
The most disappointing purchase I have made on Meh. Without a straw or sipping lid these are pretty much useless. They will fit in a car cup holder but you have to remove lid to drink. I notice that no mention in ad nor are there any pics.
I will be much more careful in future and my opinion of Meh trustworthiness is down the drain. Thanks Meh for nothing.
Flip up or pour spout lids are available from amazon but will cost about as much as the tumbler you just purchased. In my experience they are all pretty much standard size and thread. I have replaced a few cherished ones over the years.
YMMV
@chienfou These bottles popped into my head and I came back here thinking about the alternate lids - I looked at the time but I have never seen compatible lids on Amazon. The only place I’ve seen to buy them are straight from Tervis for 10 each.
First of all I am not happy that after order placed there have been no updates as to whether shipped or what! I was counting on getting them on days they initially projected now on day 3 I have nothing. Scam?
Can be used for loud noises as well. If you get it to empty and then hit them against each other, they make church bells. Pretty neat trick once you drink all the water.
I ordered 8 and haven’t tried one yet. They were intended to be items to put money in and personalize for graduation gifts. Unfortunately most arrived with paint scratched offz, so I can’t give them as gifts.
Support actually contacted me, and they were so very easy to work with. Because of the effcient way in which this was handled, I won’t hesitate to order from meh.com again.

Those Bubba ones were good. Except for the tab that closed the drink opening would break in half early.
From amazon: “Product Care Instructions Hand Wash Only”
The person on the porch is holding the Deluxe Spout Lid, but the item for sale does not have a spout.
That’s going to catch a couple people off guard.
@Brandizzle Good catch - thank you!
@Brandizzle No spout lid, literally unusable. 100% serious.
@Brandizzle @Coldwyn If it’s a “standard” screw top size, then there would be items you could order with the type of lid you want. Brands like Yeti and HydroFlask offer them. Not sure if they would be a compatible size.
But you will find the lids might cost more than the $/bottle for these flasks.
@Brandizzle Yeah I thought the lid had a spout. Still can’t beat the price so I’m not sad.
Tardis would be better. It’s bigger on the inside than on the outside.
@tweezak dumb in addition to not being funny
@tweezak smart in addition to being funny and timely-wimely
@mehtenizer If that’s how you want to self-identify, you go ahead and do it, sweetie.
@tweezak Yeah, but does it still have a broken Chameleon Circuit? Or do you just like it looking like an old timey Police Box? And have you changed the desktop recently?
@marvelljones I have no idea what you are talking about. I haven’t seen Dr. Who since the Tom Baker shows ran on PBS.
@tweezak The Chameleon Circuit was a thing back then. “Changing the desktop” (the TARDIS interior) was not.
@marvelljones That was a long time and many brain cells ago.
@tweezak That’s fair. I remember Doctor Who on PBS for years but often forget that was the 1980s & I’m over half a century old. Let’s just say I never grew out of my Doctor Who phase, even during the show’s hiatus.

@AaronLeeJohnson could you just pour boiling water in it? I think that might kill any bacteria that might exist.
@AaronLeeJohnson Warm water and a denture cleaning tablet will have the inside like new in a couple of hours. Mine usually take around a year to start smelling funky, though.
@AaronLeeJohnson @brennyn I do the denture tablet thing, makes it sparkle and smell like mint.
@brennyn I’ll give that a try! Thanks for the tip!
@AaronLeeJohnson @brennyn @sammydog01 A side effect is that the water you put in will taste like mint for months. (Also of note, citrus antibacterial soap has the same long-lasting soapy aftertaste.)
@AaronLeeJohnson @brennyn @pakopako @sammydog01 The hiking-bottle cleaner tabs we buy leave no mint residue, and no other smell either.
I mean, these’ll HOLD margaritas
Is there a happy medium between ‘double insulated’ and ‘dishwasher safe’ somewhere?
Also, is ‘commutative’ supposed to be ‘commemorative’ in the writeup? Heheh.
@PooltoyWolf i just learned i can put my Yeti in the dishwasher. I had no idea.
@PooltoyWolf @TheyCallMeKate Kate/Shirley, surely that’ll clog up your dishwasher (with yeti fur).
@PooltoyWolf We have multiple brands and sizes of stainless double-insulated vessel, and we run all of them through the dishwasher. The lids always go in the top rack when we do this. @hamjudo @PooltoyWolf @werehatrack
but does the water really care if the container is geometrically perfect?
@hamjudo @pmarin @werehatrack I’m guessing it got quite annoying trying to get the bottle to stand up, heh.
@hamjudo @pmarin @PooltoyWolf @werehatrack
I have been known to ‘re-shape’ the bottom with a hammer… YMMV
Less than $10 is nice
On the Amazon website they don’t mention “hot beverage” anywhere for these. Meh doesn’t say “hot” either. Could it be because of the lid?
@dasanti1 my particular Yeti is cold drinks only. Weird but it is what it is.
@dasanti1 @TheyCallMeKate I have these and the tervis site only mentions cold. I use them for tea and they’re great (with the spout lid). How much lead is in one of these bad boys
@Condalmo not enough. Look elsewhere.
I’m buying, but I want the spout lid. Any one know whether you have to buy the Tervis Deluxe Spout Lid? Or are other lid types compatible?
@mrshl Yes, you have to buy the spout lid but the reviews for that lid really aren’t great: https://www.tervis.com/deluxe-spout-lid-for-wide-1353320.html
@mrshl @troy I use the spout lids, they spill once in a while but for the most part they’re fine. I’m trying to make a bunch of tea in the morning so I don’t reach for those cans of soda and these should work.

My guess is, if you sold 2 for $12, you’d sell out in a New York minute. I don’t want or need 4 of these. But I’d buy 2. Have a great day!
@suewalsh1 so you have no friends that want to hydrate?
@pmarin I’ve had acquaintances I’d love to “hydrate”, but maybe not in the same sense.

@hamjudo I don’t know why they word it that way; I found this in a description of a similar thermal tumbler on Amazon:
So the copper is outside of the stainless, I think.
(*emphasis added by me)
@lonocat Cat’s not trying hard enough.
Just don’t put the SideDeal HALO drink mixes in these - or anywhere you’ll drink from, for that matter. They suck.
It says 24 99 shipped yet you charged me $6 for shipping. So what’s up with that?
The most disappointing purchase I have made on Meh. Without a straw or sipping lid these are pretty much useless. They will fit in a car cup holder but you have to remove lid to drink. I notice that no mention in ad nor are there any pics.

@SharonGrasmick Bummer!
Did you contact Support?
https://meh.com/support
Support actually contacted me, and they were so very easy to work with. Because of the effcient way in which this was handled, I won’t hesitate to order from meh.com again.
@SharonGrasmick That’s terrific. I’ve always found them to be very friendly and helpful.
I can’t write anything fancy, but these work well. I’ve had ice stay for 24 hours.
These are perfect! My husband and I love these! We use them for ice water or coffee.
Anyone find a good 3rd party lid for these? All the real lids broke preeeeety quickly.
