@brennyn What are my other options? My refrigerator is pretty clean, and I am going to wash the vegetables before I prepare them. I don’t use the plastic bags in the produce aisle for environmental reasons, so my vegetables are uncovered anyways. Whether they are sitting on the shelf, or in a drawer, I don’t see a difference.
@Cerridwyn I put paper towels in with my lettuce (romaine and red leaf) when I get home from the grocery. It draws away excess wetness yet keeps the air around the lettuce moist and prolongs freshness.
@ACustomer As opposed to bitchin’ about others on the internet, the equivalent of screaming; “GET OFF MY LAWN” at anyone walking past your house, KAREN!!!?
@ACustomer No, I took care of both of my parents until they passed & they had no basement, but they had a garage apt. I personally don’t think You’re that cute. talking about our parents!! BTW, how do ya like my dry sarcasm¿?
@ACustomer My parents are in the basement. (well, under it anyway) I have the run of the house AND their Social Security and retirement checks! But I’m not going to waste their money on this gimcrackery.
@mcanavino Dood! Bro! This protects your food from dangerous chemicals like Dihydrogen Monoxide! Too much or too little kills everything on the planet!
“reusable sheet” – 'bout time. I’ve been wasting my sheet; just throwing the Bad Sheet away each time. Now I can keep my sheet with my other stuff and get more use out of it. Now it’s Good Sheet.
@srbuwsnyc That’s a mighty small sample size to draw any significant conclusions from, but I doubt that a larger test would have produced results that validated the product manufacturer’s claims.
I am not buying this, but it isn’t entirely snake oil. Many plants have evolved to release fungicides, antibiotics, insecticides, and other chemical agents for their own protection.
My favorite insecticides are caffeine and peppermint oil. I put capsaicin, a plant derived chemical warfare agent, on almost everything I eat.
I don’t recall which parts of which plants release chemistry that inhibits mold growth, but I have read about them.
Sometimes, I remember to put lemon juice on sliced avocados to keep them green. Lemon juice is an antioxidant.
There are even more chemicals that make vegetables spoil faster. For example, don’t store onions and potatoes in the same cabinet. They each release stuff that causes the other vegetable to go bad.
@hamjudo I have a bread machine and the bread molds long before I eat it all. I’m giving this a shot- if it keeps the mold away for a couple of days it’s a winner in my book. Maybe I’ll do a controlled experiment and report back.
@taneplapeorb
Possible reason for not making a smaller loaf: Many bread machines don’t work right if you try to reduce the loaf size below about 3/4 of the machine’s capacity.
Anytime a place claims “scientifically proven” but then makes no effort to show said studies, you have to wonder…
Their FAQ claims “FRESHPAPER is infused with organic spices that inhibit bacterial & fungal growth, as well as enzymes that cause over-ripening.” but I want to see the science. Very much sounds like nonsense.
I think I’ll buy zero of them, and save $21.65. Or should I do that three times and save $64.95? Yes, that’s the ticket! I shall not-buy them three times! Great success!

Is that like toilet paper?
@yakkoTDI Will it keep “it” fresh??
@yakkoTDI You mean reusable? I hope so, other wise why bother? BTW, how many uses do you get out of your TP?
@yakkoTDI, No, butt a Corn Husk is like toilet paper & so is a Sears catalog!!
@1DisabledWarVet Corn husk you say? There may be a kernel of truth to that.
@1DisabledWarVet @yakkoTDI In a pinch, corn cobs are useful, too.
@yakkoTDI, yeah, but only a kernel.
What kind of goofball just dumps their vegetables straight into the drawer??
@brennyn What are my other options? My refrigerator is pretty clean, and I am going to wash the vegetables before I prepare them. I don’t use the plastic bags in the produce aisle for environmental reasons, so my vegetables are uncovered anyways. Whether they are sitting on the shelf, or in a drawer, I don’t see a difference.
@Willijs3 The produce at the grocery store I go to is already bagged anyway, and it stays fresh for a lot longer if I keep the bag closed.
@Willijs3 I completely get not wanting to use all of those bags, but I’d still at least put it into some sort of lidded container.
@brennyn, you do mean a fridge drawer, but regardless, I leave mine in a produce plastic bag, or stick it in a freezer Slider zip-lock bag.
@brennyn My produce seems to last longer when it’s not in a bag. Any condensation in the bag stays there and rots the produce.
Snake oil-soaked paper, with all the health and environmental benefits.
@hchavers Good One! LOL
Paper towels work too if you are trying to keep moisture away
@Cerridwyn
@Cerridwyn I put paper towels in with my lettuce (romaine and red leaf) when I get home from the grocery. It draws away excess wetness yet keeps the air around the lettuce moist and prolongs freshness.
Can they keep batteries fresh?
@awk You need battery saver sheets for that, so no.
@awk Cucumbers & eggplants don’t take batteries silly. But you know that already dontcha?
@awk For that purpose, all you need is a refrigerator. You would have known that if you had been paying attention…
@Achromatter @awk Two words:
Electric cucumber
(Heard about it from a friend.)
@Achromatter @awk UR disgusting!
@Achromatter @awk @rpstrong Too funny!
So like… how do they work?
@taneplapeorb My guess would be BlackMagicFuckery, but I doubt it.
@taneplapeorb with snake oil
but what am I’m exposing my fruits and vegetables too? The stuff that comes in clothing pockets???
“Chemical-free” is a lie. Just sayin.’
@blaadnort Yeah I just asked about that too.
Like everything is a chemical compound, right?
@blaadnort @mcanavino Except argon gas.
@blaadnort @mcanavino Not if they’re homonuclear - let’s be inclusive.
Do any of you foul mouth clowns have a life? Or do you spend your lives in your parents basements posting what you think is sooooooooooooooooo cute?
@ACustomer As opposed to bitchin’ about others on the internet, the equivalent of screaming; “GET OFF MY LAWN” at anyone walking past your house, KAREN!!!?
@ACustomer No, it’s MY basement now that my parents are deceased.
@ACustomer @brennyn
thoughts & prayers.
@Achromatter @ACustomer @brennyn Uh-oh, maybe we should call in a silver alert, i think Gladys wandered away from the dementia ward again.
@ACustomer All i can say is “fuck” - but it is a cute little fucker.
@ACustomer That was clearly a ball not a foul you whiney little cricket fan.
@ACustomer
I think this calls for a professional response.
@werehatrack lol
@ACustomer You better knock it off, son, before your mom and I kick you out of our basement.
“Chemical-free” AND “Infused with organic botanicals”.
So if they don’t contain chemicals, what are made out of, thoughts and dreams?
@mcanavino *thoughts & prayers…
@mcanavino snake oil
@mcanavino Tater tots and eclairs?
@phendrick Until you use the sheet too long and then it’s Holey Sheet.
So if I just keeping putting a new sheet into my fruit sack every month, my plums will stay fresh for 32 months?
@Achromatter , No, but your plums Would be Plum Spoiled!!
@Achromatter After 32 months, your plums would be pruned…
@werehatrack I WAS IN THE POOOOOOL!!!
I have a feeling many Mehtizens are more interested in using a different kind of paper with a different kind of vegetation.
@ircon96, How does that feel¿? Do it feel anythin like Not Gettin Nough Sleep¿?
@1DisabledWarVet I’m not sure, i only know about the not getting enough sleep part. You & i seem to be experts in that field!
Snake oil garbage.
@ohhwell That was the name of my punk rock band!!
This should sell really well to the people who adore homeopathy.
@werehatrack You got a problem with homeos, you right wing whack job?
@Trinityscrew There’s probably a right-wringer or two that’d whack me if they thought they could get away with it.
Plenty there to line a trunk.
@detailer Yeah, but that trunk’s not full of bread or produce.
@werehatrack I’d like to think he throws some food in from time to time. Maybe he will weigh in later.
@detailer @werehatrack Based on their current status food is not what they need.
Consumer Reports (in a generally negative review) says they did work for berries to prevent mold.
CR Claim Check

@hamjudo Don’t mix onions and potatoes? That explains the morning after…
@fuzzmanmatt @hamjudo Store your potatoes with apples for best results. Or you can just be like me and only buy what you need for that nights stew.
@hamjudo I have a bread machine and the bread molds long before I eat it all. I’m giving this a shot- if it keeps the mold away for a couple of days it’s a winner in my book. Maybe I’ll do a controlled experiment and report back.
@fuzzmanmatt @hamjudo Ima mix onions and spuds when I make hash browns, and also some garlic salt and lotsabutter.
@hamjudo @sammydog01 why don’t you just make a smaller loaf
@taneplapeorb
Possible reason for not making a smaller loaf: Many bread machines don’t work right if you try to reduce the loaf size below about 3/4 of the machine’s capacity.
Do they come in chocolate flavored?

The thousands of good reviews on Amazon sucked me in.
$20 will replace a lot of stale bread and rotten produce…
@TCayer You must not have been grocery shopping lately.
Anytime a place claims “scientifically proven” but then makes no effort to show said studies, you have to wonder…

My vegetables
Very expensive papers
But will it help them?
https://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine/2013/06/claim-check-fenugreen-freshpaper/index.htm
@datruandi Good to know! I’m allergic to peanuts AND fenugreek. Death by extra-fresh asparagus isn’t the way I’d like to go out.
Can someone pass the bacon please
@ladyhawke001 I’m sorry, but all of the bacon is gone.
