@thebumm really, collars arent good for walking dogs. A harness is recommened and distributes any pulling or jerking motion from a leash (whether standard or retractable) through the shoulders instead of the neck.
@werehatrack I had a cat who adored going out side in a harness and leash. He’d stand by the door, tail up, quivering in excitement waiting for me to get him ready to go outside. Of course the first time I put the harness on him he freaked out and was doing flips. And then when he realized what came next he was thrilled.
I feel obligated to point out that a number of cities have leash length restrictions. (And almost no one knows about this.) For example, in San Diego it is illegal to have a leash longer than 6 feet.
Take note of the “For small dogs and medium sized dogs” detail. If this is like any other retractable leash I’ve tried, any dog that’s able to pull with even moderate force is going to have no problem overcoming the locking mechanism and extending the leash to full length whenever it pleases. Then this teaches the dog that it’s okay to pull while it’s on a leash and it gets run over by a car.
Weight limit on this one is 44 pounds, and even that sounds like a bad idea.
Before buying a retractable leash, Google them. Specifically retractable leash and safety.
People have lost fingers and had really bad cuts from them. A kid running up to your dog making it bolt, if the leash wraps round them can cause serious injuries. Retractable leashes can be very dangerous.
Not safe for your dog either if in traffic. Never let a child operate a retractable leash.
@OnionSoup It also just occurred to me that the nylon band on this one is black, instead of being in a high visibility color like any leash not designed by a psychopath.
@brennyn@OnionSoup Marketing people have a high likelihood of being psychopaths. It’s not an official job requirement, but it makes them a lot more willing to hype things that are utter crap, and make demands for product misfeatures that destroy the utility of otherwise good stuff.
The water bowls are great! I keep one in the cubby of the truck (the dog’s favorite vehicle), so she can drink easily whike traveling.
The leashes aren’t so great. Lots of problems with retractable leashes. However, they are probably better than no leash, unless your dog is very well trained.
Overall, this deal is a low Meh. I give it a 3 out of 10, with 10 being best.
@ArmchairGamer Cat toys. Pull the whole leash out by hand, toss the clip end across the room, and retract the ribbon a little bit at a time. The cat will probably give bonus attention if there’s a small furry or feathery lump on the clip for them to pounce.
@ArmchairGamer I use one for my 20 lb poodle mix. I live in a condo, and nice to use one when take my dog out for the final time at night. This way he has a chance to wander around a bit while I do not have to worry about him trying to chase a stray cat or rabbit.
@alose That is the perfect use for these, in a quiet, controlled environment. A lot of dogs (such as my high-maintenance princess) like to have a bit of a runway when doing their business.
I bought this last time it was around. My dog is around 65 pounds, and she snapped this like it was nothing. Granted, she’s bigger than the recommended dog, but it snapped like paper.
Good price. Too many leashes. And as for those whose dogs pull so hard that they break the leashes or cause the the owners to lose digits, invest in some training.
We train dogs and we only use 5ft solid leashes with a full harness. Now once your dog is trained these are fine to use with a harness to let your dog have some roaming time but yet still have him/her leashed. But this one is for small to medium dogs I wouldn’t recommend it for dogs over 40 lbs. The water bowls are pretty laughable. But would better be used for camping or road trips for yourself and apparently 2 other friends.

Sit Ubu, sit! Good Dog!
This offer has me bowled over, it’s the leash I could do.
In before the holy war over whether dog owners should use retractable leashes.
@The_Tim Seems everything is controversial these days.
@Hittman It was seriously ridiculous on here last time these were up for sale back in January.
@The_Tim They shouldn’t. They should get a cat instead.
/giphy serval
just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in (with a retractable leash)
@carl669, are ya sayin ya got a dog named Marlon Brando, or do ya just want me ta say, “That’s what she said!!”?
I wife saw this and said she is could use a new, longer leash and petted my head lovingly. Wait, we don’t have a pet.
@hchavers - She’s gonna give you more rope to hang yourself with, eh?
@hchavers, She does, Buddy! I was just pulling your leg, or rather, throwing you a bone.
I’m going to buy these to use as evidence when I try to convince my wife that we have a dog after I poop on our bed.
@Limewater Amber, you should get off of Meh and studying your notes. You’re taking the stand soon!
@Limewater I tried pulling that excuse after drunkenly taking a dump in the cat box. It doesn’t work.
@brennyn @Limewater
Evidently your sense of balance is WAY better than mine when you’re drunk!
@brennyn Blaming the dog after crapping in the cat litter box. That’s kind of outside-the-box thinking our country needs. Are you running for office?
@brennyn @chienfou @Limewater, not really, d cat litter box is on the floor, butt he would’ve fell right off the toilet!!
@brennyn @Limewater, JSYK brennyn is the Florida gov’s pen name.
But I only have one dog, and she’s not nearly that thirsty!
Retractable leashes are bad for dogs so don’t buy these.
@thebumm really, collars arent good for walking dogs. A harness is recommened and distributes any pulling or jerking motion from a leash (whether standard or retractable) through the shoulders instead of the neck.
@thebumm why is that?
@thebumm, just like hand- cuffs, a dog leash has other uses!
Cats hate these.
@werehatrack Not according to the guy I saw walking his cat on a leash yesterday.
@werehatrack Cats pretty much hate everything, don’t they?
@werehatrack, dogs do too when they get snared up by an elevator!!
@macromeh @werehatrack, This One Sure Hell Does!!
If you put them together that’s 48ft of dog leash. You can walk your dog on one side of the road while the dogs on the other side! I’m in for that
@bugger And both of you get pulled down the street by the idiot in the pickup checking his gps.
@bugger @werehatrack I count at least 2 idiots in this scenario.
@macromeh @werehatrack your right you can’t blame the dog.
@bugger @macromeh @werehatrack Face it – most dogs are idiots as well.
@bugger, so says the dog owner who doesn’t want to clean up his dog’s poop.
Can I use this to walk my cat?
@samilol Technically yes but the cat may disagree with that.
/giphy attack cat
@samilol @yakkoTDI
cat rack
@samilol I had a cat once who loved to go outside in a harness with a leash.
I feel obligated to point out that a number of cities have leash length restrictions. (And almost no one knows about this.) For example, in San Diego it is illegal to have a leash longer than 6 feet.
@haydesigner That’s only in parks:
SEC. 41.123. PETS AND OTHER ANIMALS © Unless authorized by the Department, a person with a pet in a County park shall keep the pet physically restrained at all times, either by an adequate leash no more than six feet in length or by confining the animal in a vehicle, tent, trailer, enclosure, or other structure allowed by park rules and in accordance with applicable state law.
Otherwise they just have to be under control:
https://codelibrary.amlegal.com/codes/san_diego/latest/sandiego_regs/0-0-0-103033
(Sorry, I only looked this up because I found out our local laws stress control, not a leash)
@callow, I think that is referring to San Diego County, whereas I am referring to San Diego city.
@haydesigner Thanks!
I’m confused.
Is this three-fer-Tuesday or is this supposed to be for walking Cerberus?
Should work – my dog keeps me on a short leash. (And I think she will share her water with me.)
Take note of the “For small dogs and medium sized dogs” detail. If this is like any other retractable leash I’ve tried, any dog that’s able to pull with even moderate force is going to have no problem overcoming the locking mechanism and extending the leash to full length whenever it pleases. Weight limit on this one is 44 pounds, and even that sounds like a bad idea.
@brennyn where did you see the weight limits
@brennyn @sindysin In the Amazon Q&A, this response concerning the weight limit is present:
Typo is theirs.

But do they work with my mac?
@mokiejovis only with Snow Leopard. This is Meh, not Tim Apple’s House of Compatible Leashes!
@mokiejovis If you buy the correct dongle it will.
@yakkoTDI ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
@mokiejovis They will work with the mac but not the cheese.
This is perfect for my Gimp! On the leash as soon as it leaves the trunk…
The water bowls are great! I keep one in the cubby of the truck (the dog’s favorite vehicle), so she can drink easily whike traveling.

I bought this last time for my 15 pound yorkie. It works perfectly. Buying again as leashes get gross so always good to have a few fresh ones on hand.
/giphy sly-mediocre-trolling
@ChrisHBelAir I don’t think that the 4chan troll face will ever stop being effing annoying, just like the trolls…
@ChrisHBelAir @werehatrack
Yeah… and just what exactly is he spanking?
I’m against retractable leashes for dog walking, but I am trying to figure out if there’s an alternative creative use for these leashes.
@ArmchairGamer Cat toys. Pull the whole leash out by hand, toss the clip end across the room, and retract the ribbon a little bit at a time. The cat will probably give bonus attention if there’s a small furry or feathery lump on the clip for them to pounce.

@werehatrack I used to refer to using the laser pointer as “fishing for cats” but your idea is far more accurate!
@ArmchairGamer maybe tie the end of your kite string to the end of the retractable?
@alose
even better if you live on the first or second floor and the leash is long enough…
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@alose That is the perfect use for these, in a quiet, controlled environment. A lot of dogs (such as my high-maintenance princess) like to have a bit of a runway when doing their business.

@Justjoeinpine snapping paper….
I presume this is great if you have three well behaved dogs or one very destructive dog.
I am only here to watch the holy war about leashes.
@thWookie
looks like you might be disappointed. Seems most all the wrath was spent on the last offering.
Good price. Too many leashes. And as for those whose dogs pull so hard that they break the leashes or cause the the owners to lose digits, invest in some training.

@zachdecker It worked! Your order number is: lilac-troublesome-bag

@bugger More of a snack bowl than water, yeah.
Triton for size; you’ll like how they fit!¿! I’m buying these for the bowls.
