@rm9116 I’ve got some much older Motorola FRS radios that I still use occasionally. Kids grew up and no one to play with anymore! But I have always been happy with them when I need to pullthem out for exactly the kind of thing you are talking about.
We took a family trip back in 2006 with a trio of radios just like this – we ended up doing funny commentary and constantly checking in on each other and it was an experience that we’ll never forget. I can’t sell you priceless family memories or promise that this these will generate them; your results may vary. Be aware they ALWAYS exaggerate on the range, because their specs assume ZERO interference in a theoretical environment.
We went on a company cruise (it had been planned for our company’s dealers, but was cancelled, so our company subsidized the price for us) many years ago.
We had young kids and that meant one of us parents would occasionally have cabin duty while one kid slept.
That brought a communications challenge. We were amazed by how well our consumer grade Motorola FRS radios worked on a steel ship, through many decks.
(FYI, we checked with the ship’s management prior to using them and they responded, “no worries, we’re on different frequencies.”)

Thinking about this for family reunion, since multiple cars needed to take us anywhere we need to go. Any experience with this or similar model?
