@caffeine_dude@dvermilion@rmeden Ugh, I can’t believe how many people are complaining that these aren’t USB-C when meh already sold the USB-C versions of these exact power banks about a month ago.
@jlibrot24
I have had to use supplemental power packs for fishing, golf, hiking, camping, power outages - those are my past uses I can think of off the top of my head. I never needed one due to work, and obviously my car has USB ports.
@jlibrot24 Not everyone lives in a metro area with all the perks of always on power & internet.
Take for instance those ppl like me who live in NorCal. We are always prepped for a sudden event whether it’s fire, flood, forced & unforced power outages. I live “in the boonies” & even our metro neighboring counties can’t escape the issues.
I’ll use this rant time to ask the wrong ppl to plead w/ Meh to make disaster pack collections…
@jaynedough They make this slim 4 Ah capacity in a USB-C version that meh already sold a month or so ago! And it works fine stacked beneath the phone; the cable snakes out a few inches.
fyi: most 6v Halloween decorations are perfectly happy to run on 5v usb batteries like these with a 5.5/2.1 barrel plug adapter like this https://www.ebay.com/i/192739117886. I typically use aa battery holders, but I bought some usb to barrel plug connectors just to put all my random swag power banks to good use.
@RedOak was wondering about that too. would be good to see a photo of the retail box and if it had the “designed for…” logo. on the other hand, this brand is at least “semi-reputable” so I don’t think they would sell something with a Lightning connector that’s not licensed.
I bought the USB-C versions of this power bank the last time meh had them for sale, and I’m glad I did. I never used to be big on power banks because I could generally plug into an electrical socket or the car, and I use multiple devices (phone, tablet, media player) to spread out the usage and power drain so I most importantly don’t fully drain my phone. However, I’ve found these to be great for topping off my phone in the middle of my work shifts while on my meal breaks. It’s much more convenient than being stuck tethered to the wall or even to a higher-capacity, but larger power bank.
In fact, despite the modest 4 Ah capacity, I’ve never even drained one of these things through the course of a day, and when I get home I plug that one in to recharge while grabbing a topped-off one for the next day. Considering that, the advantage of having one of these “low”-capacity power banks is that they’re incredibly slim and portable. It’s way easier to throw one of these in my pocket next to my already condensed wallet than it would be to drag along a much bigger and heavier 20-30 Ah power bank that are themselves otherwise reasonably priced for their capacity.
It appears, from the manual, that this device has a second USB port that allows you to plug in the cable that came with your device and charge 2 items at one time.
I really don’t understand these power banks. I guess if I was on vacation, out touring/hiking, somehow forgot to charge my phone overnight AND somehow remembered to have a power bank with me, it could come in handy. I’ve got several of them that I’ve never used.
Once fully changed, how long does one of these hold that charge? Weeks? Months? Years?
I’ve got two chargers at home, one in the car, & one at work. The one in the car comes in handy on long trips when using google maps. The one at work comes in handy if somehow the phone didn’t get charged overnight. When would I use a power bank?
@Joedetroit these things hold a charge for really long. I noticed a practically full charge on a small power bank I have a year after storing it. Like you, I don’t have much use for one usually. I just have my phone with me that I can easily top off here and there. But I know so many people who have older phones or gear with old batteries that don’t last long, and they don’t necessarily have access to power outlets in their day to day. My current power bank has saved my ass during travels. I imagine I’ll be relying on them again as my phone ages and eats up battery more. These are cheaper than just swapping phones every couple years
@Joedetroit pre-quarantine, I used portable power banks frequently - mostly on weekends when my kids and I would go out with friends, especially to play Pokemon Go. We might walk around town for hours, stopping for lunch and snacks at various places, hang out in parks, etc., and our phones would use up a lot of battery.
The portable chargers are also indispensable on long plane trips, especially if you use a phone/tablet as your plane entertainment. And of course if you’re doing the tourist thing, spending the whole day wandering another city. Which I sure hope we’ll be able to do again some day.
@Joedetroit Like you, I don’t really use them all that much because I always keep my phone charged. But I keep several of these around because my teenage daughter is on her phone constantly and whenever she wants to go somewhere, her phone is invariably at like 8%. It drives me insane! I have tried to impress upon her the importance of keeping her phone charged in case she is out and has an emergency, but at 15, she hasn’t figured that out yet, lol! So I keep a stash of these for her to grab and go, both for her safety and my sanity. I’m so glad Meh sells these cheap and frequently, so that when they are misplaced or not charged up by her (or my boys), I always have a spare.
@Joedetroit I’m more or less of the same opinion as you, in that I’m usually somewhere I can plug in and charge, but recently, as described in the review I posted of the USB-C version of this, I’ve come to appreciate the freedom of not being tethered to the wall. Also, these lower-capacity power banks are tiny and very easy to have on-hand, just in case.
as mentioned earlier, would love to find out if these are MFi certified, meaning the Lightning adapter is licensed by Apple and won’t be a problem. I know I’ve had off-brand uncertified cables that “worked” at first and then after an iOS update no longer worked because they got disabled by Apple.
But I would say all the Meh stuff I’ve bought DOES have the logo and has worked fine.
Also glad the weight of this is 0.243000 lbs. At 0.243001 that extra millionth of a pound would be too much to carry. Didn’t their teacher ever lecture about significantfigures?
I was glad I had a power bank when we got stranded in a parking lot for 8 hours after returning home from Vegas due to torrential rains. I didn’t want to chance draining car battery. (I was already grateful I didn’t kill the car in the flood.) Would have killed for a beer though…lol. You can take them on trips, keep one in a work tote or briefcase. You Never know when you will be away from “Real Power”. Just sayin’. Maybe I am trying to justify my collection, but as we live in South Texas, you never know when power will go out due to a storm. Firing up the generator is a last resort… Stay Safe out there People. Please wear a Mask.
( wavy-square-knowledge ) More stuff that I will eventually give away since I don’t use power banks but now since Battery in my old-school iPhone 7 is starting to lose its ability To stay charged for a longer period of time I may end up keeping one of them.
too bad it doesn’t come with a usb-c adapter. All our phones are from the past few years, so this won’t power our phones or our Nintendo Switch [tm]. Guess i could charge my ancient e-reader/tablet or my wireless trackball.
@brenda@inanna I think the lack of USB-C is the main reason these are $5 each (in pk of 3), vs $12-$15 each. They are thin and light and a semi-reputable brand.
A few months ago I bought some Meh power thing that had two adapters with it, Lightning and USB-C. Both worked fine. I think USB-C is a straight wiring converter, so that any one would work (at least for charging – maybe not for data). So if you had one from a previous thing you could probably use that (but if the old thing was still working, you might want it there…) I don’t think there is any proprietary licensed part of the USB-C connector, unlike Lightning.
@inanna@pmarin Pmarin probably has it right, these are likely for sale this cheap because we’re finally phasing out micro USB, but as I’ve mentioned in replies to others’ similar comments, meh already sold the USB-C version of this a few weeks ago. I wouldn’t consider using either of these slim versions (even with a USB-C adapter) with a tablet or Nintendo Switch (you should aim for a power bank with higher capacity) but these are great for bringing along just in case as they’re very tiny and portable.

@ciabelle They sold USB-C versions of these about a month ago, I bought some and they’re great. Sorry you missed out!
I don’t usb-see the point.
@rmeden I c what you did there.
@caffeine_dude @rmeden wh-what’s going on man WHY IS EVERYONE TALKING WEIRD
AND WHY DON’T THESE POWERBANKS HAVE USB-C FOR CRYIN OUT LOUD
@caffeine_dude @dvermilion @rmeden Ugh, I can’t believe how many people are complaining that these aren’t USB-C when meh already sold the USB-C versions of these exact power banks about a month ago.
Which tip delivers more power? That is what she wants to know.
@hchavers try both, let us know
Doesn’t everyone work from home? Who needs these anymore.
@jlibrot24 Agreed. I can’t see when these would be of any use in this day and age.
@jlibrot24 @osiris3mc I would have said the same until the derecho left me without power for 3 days.
Limped along on Meh flashlights and power banks.
@jlibrot24

If it’s so good why did it go undrafted?
Cord is too short. You would have barely enough length to sandwich it on top of the phone. And you would have to buy the c adapter.

@tjamesturner This is the most useful and appreciated unsolicited fyi I’ve come across in all my long years. You have yourself a lovely day, tjames!
I use C, but BF has an Iphone, so lightning cable just fine.
My wife has banned me from buying anymore battery packs from Meh. Apparently being able to power the entire house for 2 days is excessive.
@allen721 Is lightning or micro usb enough, or do you need usb-c for enough power to run the refrigerator?
/eightball Will Meh ever sell a power bank without the big fat-necked Lightning connector?
Yes
@katbyter yea!
word to the wise, only buy it if you need it (a.k.a. if you have others like this still in the boxes, then hard pass)

No claim of being Apple MFi certified. No thanks.

So bottom line will the lightning cable part fit past most cases? iPhone 6s and XSl, slim poetic cases. Thanks if you have experience.

@gibvel Unfortunately the manual covers 3 models. This appears to be the “mini” and does not have that connector.

@superpope The Mars is next to The Uranus.

Did anyone notice that the part number is literally “M0PH13-M0PR0BLEMS”
@EdLippert i’m sure most people noticed, since made up model numbers are a staple here
it’s a play on “mo’ money, mo’ problems.” (a biggie song.)
It is electric !
Since I got my my Galaxy S10 +, I really haven’t had to emergently charge my phone, since a single charge lasts about 36 hours.
@dred wait a year or two and all the bugs will start draining the battery by mid-day
@dred This will not charge newer phones with USB type C connectors.

@inanna my phone uses usb C but all my charging cables are still minis. Adapter life
