@thechinglish “a short?”
Seems like it’s $5.83 a short since I consider them a pair. Nobody ever says “a sciss” when they talk about a singular of these:
So I don’t get why fashionistas started saying “a pant.” And from there “a short.”
Sorry for the grammar rant but this drives me crazy. (I guess it’s not a very long drive.)
@Kyeh According to several sources, the exact origin is unclear, but it believed to derive from ancient usages in the time when a pair of pantaloons was two pieces donned individually. By 300AD, they were almost always joined together in making. It may be that the unjoined type were made in order to allow for the fact that one gained and lost weight over the course of a year with the seasonal abundance and scarcity of food. Some languages lack this peculiarity.
@werehatrack I always think of “What Not to Wear” and all the affected ways they talked about “a pant” and pronounced “Empire” in the French manner, “Ohm-peer,” even though it exists as a perfectly good English word as well. And how you had to have good support for “the girls” from your bra. Maybe everyone was already saying these things but that’s where I heard them ad nauseum. I thought the show was kind of fun in spite of that, though.
@werehatrack It is certainly superior to a “non-functional zip fly”.
(I find the zippers on many shorts fall into the “non-” category. Unlike most of my jeans/slacks.)
@werehatrack Maybe they’re being gender-inclusive with their descriptions. Women’s clothing often has non-functional zippers, pockets, and other features that are only there for decorative purposes.
I bought these back in March. I picked size by the chart and could have gone down one. But as said above even though the waist was too large for me the belt was barely long enough to thread through the rings.
@richrauch I’m wearing one of the shorts from the last time these were on sale. The cargo closure is a velcro patch about 1" by 3/4". The belt is mandatory, the pants do not stay up without it.
The belt is mandatory, the pants do not stay up without it.
Well, that explains why they’re on Meh, when you know that the belt is really needed - and the one supplied is useless. (Maybe the “for a looser fit” hint is really trying to steer you to a size where the belt just barely works?)
@Smeep71583 I suspect the answer is “because the people designing these things for the US market are not in the US, do not have a grasp of US men’s general customs, attitudes, and preferences, and have never worn these things themselves.”
I thought these would resemble my OP stretchy shorts which are also quite soft. These are quite rough and scratchy and the elastic quality might just make it worse. Rounding down from an odd-number waist size while adding elastic would have worked out well otherwise. Returning them (at my own expense).

$11.66 a short?
Guess I’ll go to Old Navy

@thechinglish @Kyeh Go easy on 'em, i think Chinglish is their first language.
@Kyeh @thechinglish Not a very long drive to Old Navy. Right? snicker (we need a snicker emoji)

Why do you keep assuming I have cargo to stow?
So, having a “functional zip fly” is unusual enough that it’s worth calling out as a Feature now?
@werehatrack Functional belt loops also.
@werehatrack It is certainly superior to a “non-functional zip fly”.

Why do you keep assuming I’m 70 years old and wear white New Balance shoes with white crew socks?
@hotrodder Better than the homeless-hobo-chic look of “no-show” socks…
@blaadnort @hotrodder Or the black socks & sandals look, very en vogue among the nursing home set.
@hotrodder Knee socks. White crew socks mean you’re 50-60.
How big does package have to be before it is considered cargo?
@benj If you have to ask…
@benj It’s not the size that determines if something is cargo, it’s whether you can take it out of the pocket and leave it home when you travel.
I got a set last time. The shorts fit my fat waist, the belts are an inch too short. What else do you expect from Meh?
@hchavers A question for you - did they fit your waist at the size that you typically buy? Asking so I can calibrate to my own fat waist.
@melonscoop The chart for the waist size is right, and the belt is an inch shorter.
If these are those Wicked Stitch shorts I bought a while ago, save your money
You can never have too many shorts.
@tweezak
@tweezak Unless you’re a wiring harness.
@werehatrack As long as it’s AC/DC it’s all good. See my previous post.
Unless the men come pre-installed, i have no use for these. But thanks, anyway?

Same pair at Walmart.
Belt too short, zipper doesn’t move well, stitching is poor to fair, but comfortable.
Okay, the fly is a zipper. That’s good. How about the pocket closures… Velcro? (One or two each?) Buttons? Snaps?
Too little info. Pass.
@richrauch The pictures at the Amazon link show single centered velcro patches on all the pockets. Worst of all possible closures.
@richrauch I’m wearing one of the shorts from the last time these were on sale. The cargo closure is a velcro patch about 1" by 3/4". The belt is mandatory, the pants do not stay up without it.

Why do they always have these stupid belts included? Skip it and drop the price a couple bucks. (Not meh’s fault)
@Smeep71583 I suspect the answer is “because the people designing these things for the US market are not in the US, do not have a grasp of US men’s general customs, attitudes, and preferences, and have never worn these things themselves.”
Particularly the “have never worn these” part, given the reports that the belt is uselessly undersize.
Cargo shorts so you can look for Fs to give when someone tries to insult your fashion sense. Spoiler alert: you won’t find any.
What are the dimensions of the cargo pockets?
