Eh, make it 5 for $5 or 10 for $10 and I’m in like Flynn! But $20 is too much for me to commit to a single bathroom trip, especially now that I have the meh bidet
I have been going to free comic book day at my local store for a few years. The owner died a few months ago and the shop closed. But no way am I paying for them.
@ColeSloth So that you can get a feel for storylines during a run with which you’re unfamiliar.
Story arcs are usually only four or five mags long. You might go back and get the rest. It’s sorta like catching part of a serial and figuring you need to go back and catch up. Either way, you get a feel for different authors throughout a part of a title’s history you may have missed.
@ColeSloth that’s how i feel, but the other replies are valid too. i guess it just depends on the type of person you are. i’m too neurotic to ‘catch an episode’ or read a few pages from the middle of the book. one thing i wish comics did though (and some do but most don’t) is put a little (a few lines or at least one really good tag line) on the back or on the inside front cover that give you an idea on what the book’s about.
@deemkooo I agree. The sooner you expose that child to a myriad of spore filled 30 year old decaying paper, the quicker you can find and treat those allergies.
@RiotDemon I remember one professor getting upset that a student in the very back wasn’t paying attention to the lecture. He whipped an eraser at him that hit the back wall just above the student’s head. I happened to be about three or four rows in front of the person but in the same line of fire. I’ll never forget seeing that eraser go zooming over my head! That professor had a heck on an arm!!
@nmadhuusa
1 (one) minus the probability of getting no repeats
= 1 minus the probability of getting 20 all different; but seriously, since it is a finite set of comics, that depends entirely on how many repeats of any individual comic they have in the thousands they are drawing from.
I.e., Choice E, not enough information to answer the question.
@mediocresquared But the birthday problem assumes all birthdates are equally likely, and that they can be repeated without limit (up to the number of people present). So it probably is not a good model for this. On the other hand, if there are LOTS of cards, including repeats, and the same number of repeats for each comic, it might give a reasonable approximation here.
@phendrick Theoretically, assuming a uniform distribution of the comic books - the birthday problem is a close approximation. It shows, there is a high chance of getting a duplicate in your bundle. But, that is the best thing that could happen. The alternative is that you will end up with much more of what you may not like. In that case, just say meh and move on.
Screw you guys! I got burned by the last “random” comic deal you had. (Back in the woot days.)Ended up with 5-7 of the same 3 comics. It was so shitty I still get pissed thinking about it.
@Office_Zombie I didn’t mind it. I mean, they did that ONCE. And they were these weird thin TPBs. What meh has are standard comics. Mostly Marvel/DC from what I can tell.
(Upon looking at the photos, I might be changing my mind. These look like excellent comics!—let me wipe away my tears from watching Logan, and check my wallet. But boy oh boy I have got burned on comic book deals before.) I may indeed have gone off half cocked.
Meh, I’m really sorry. I’d love to buy this. like 3 years apart, I bought a bundle of random comics at big lots, and they were things I never heard of, and just A Horrible Collection. I really hope I’m wrong, because $20 is nothing to sniff at–at least for me.
I’m sorry meh, I really am.
@stinks Not sex per se. “The Little Death” refers to an orgasm–that moment in time where the brain is overcome with euphoria and sorta checks out on itself.
Ok its been a cp.l months since i bought something here but this is great for my grandkids @ 35 items for 20 bucks,do the math phenomenal deal. T.y. Meh and the entire team !!!
The upfront cost is kind of a gut punch, but when you price it out it’s a steal per comic. Sure you’re bound to (read: guaranteed to) get crap, but I appreciate comics and might find the next series I’m in to!
I think I might have to throw my hat in with the “priced out” crowd. Especially/despite wasting money on the star wars hotwheels a couple of days ago.
My parents used to get me random comic bundles like this when I was a kid. I always liked the quirky unknown stuff better than the “major” comics.
There were soo many cheesy fantastic 4 knock offs.
So, yeah… if you ditch the “major” titles and double the haul I’m definitely in. But for now, Meh.
awhile back my partner decided he wanted to start reading comics again. i went with him to a couple of our local comic shops in hopes they might also sell urban vinyl type stuff, which i collect. they didn’t, but i learned that comics weren’t all superhero stories. i grabbed a few different titles that looked cool (figured if i hated the story they’d at least look nice in a frame), and three years later we’re still going on regular trips to these shops stocking up on our favorites. i have several titles that i read regularly. (i would say my top three right now are paper girls, southern cross, and descender.)
anyway, we love doing free comic book day! going to a few shops, getting some bubble tea in between, and meeting up with whoever is around at a local pub after. this deal is a meh for me because i wouldn’t read these particular books, but thanks for celebrating and bringing awareness, meh! (for anyone in the boston area our two main shops are hub comics & NEC in malden.)
wow talk about a time capsule…when i was young there was a single guy about mid 40’s fat pudgy really weird and i’d go into his house with my friends and dig thru boxes and boxes of comic books and we were ok…i’d never let my kids do that now…talk about a paradigm shift
Not buying this, but wanted to say THANK YOU, MEH! for alerting me to Free Comic Book Day. My kiddo is old enough to appreciate it this year, and there’s a participating comic book store close to where we live. Hooray! Thank you, meh!
Same here! My three boys and I just got back from Packrat comics in Marysville Ohio! Thanks meh for letting us know about free comic book day! Just so it’s not ALL good news, I dropped $30 there so I will not be partaking in today’s offering. Probably would’ve just been ‘meh’ anyway.
Got mine in today - no repeats! Also, are these reprints or actually vintage? Several of mine are from the 90s. And I got some Power Rangers trading cards. Badass.
I’m sitting at home and decided to go check the mail… there is a Fedex door tag on my mailbox. It reads "delivery attempt, someone must be present for delivery. " I’VE BEEN HOME ALL DAY FEDEX. Mind you, this was on my mailbox, they didnt even come to my door. They aren’t scheduled to try again till Tuesday. Rickdickulous.

So, you’re saying there aren’t any Howard the Duck?
@mossygreen How about Destroyer Duck…
@duodec Eh…
/giphy nope
Well I’ll be damned. Free Comic Book Day is real. The more you know.
Eh, make it 5 for $5 or 10 for $10 and I’m in like Flynn! But $20 is too much for me to commit to a single bathroom trip, especially now that I have the meh bidet
@MrMikenIkes I’d only use an average of one book to wipe per trip
I’m priced out of this deal.
I have been going to free comic book day at my local store for a few years. The owner died a few months ago and the shop closed. But no way am I paying for them.
@sammydog01 if you had paid for comics, he could have afforded to get treatment…
@medz He figured he may as well die before they took away his insurance for his preexisting condition. Why prolong the inevitable…
@sammydog01 You’re a Republican, aren’t you?
@medz Noooooooo! I killed the creepy old comic book guy!
Why would even a comic lover want a bunch of random non issue one comics? Who wants to start reading a comic at like issue 12?
@ColeSloth Someone who hasn’t been able to make it to a comic book shop in a while, and enjoys the grab bag aspect of this?
@ColeSloth So that you can get a feel for storylines during a run with which you’re unfamiliar.
Story arcs are usually only four or five mags long. You might go back and get the rest. It’s sorta like catching part of a serial and figuring you need to go back and catch up. Either way, you get a feel for different authors throughout a part of a title’s history you may have missed.
Pretty good titles in the samples too.
Great birthday gift for a 9 yr old!
@deemkooo I agree. The sooner you expose that child to a myriad of spore filled 30 year old decaying paper, the quicker you can find and treat those allergies.
Feeling more good old woot-like around here. Enjoying the change.
@KDemo Completely agree!
Is that last picture… the University of Michigan chem building main auditorium?
@johnamo Apparently it is and now I’m rather disturbed they made Irk a female.
https://www.usnews.com/education/best-global-universities/university-of-michigan-ann-arbor-170976
@johnamo being a U of M grad, I’m in for one just for Meh using that pic! discouraged-noxious-knife
@johnamo It’s been 16 years since I’ve graduated, but I can tell you that that chalkboard lifts up to reveal… another chalkboard
@bruhmann how can you even see the chalkboard from the back?
@RiotDemon I remember one professor getting upset that a student in the very back wasn’t paying attention to the lecture. He whipped an eraser at him that hit the back wall just above the student’s head. I happened to be about three or four rows in front of the person but in the same line of fire. I’ll never forget seeing that eraser go zooming over my head! That professor had a heck on an arm!!
@bruhmann it’s been a bit longer for me (not saying how long) but I can confirm that you are correct!
Wow, two in a month after no purchases for seven or eight. You’re back on your game, meh, much to my wallet’s chagrin.
Wish you’d done this while VMP was still a thing [available for purchase].
I’d have to say my favorite comics are George Carlin and Robin Williams.
@KDemo I don’t think you could buy either of them for $20…
I say yes, my wallet says no. Sadly, wallet wins.
What would be the probability of getting a duplicate among 20 random comics out of 100 (25 times four pixel plenty pics)?
@nmadhuusa Using this equation about 80% chance of getting at least one duplicate.
@nmadhuusa
(Yeah, I used to put my students to sleep, also.)
@phendrick True, there are probably three issues of Batman and an entire warehouse full of Trouble.

@Office_Zombie that was after the Amazon purchase, right?
@Office_Zombie oh, I wish you wouldn’t have said that. I just posted that I was warming to this deal.
@medz I don’t think it was after the amazon deal, but I could be wrong.
@wew you can roll the dice. There was a huge backlash. Maybe they learned from their mistake.
@Office_Zombie I didn’t mind it. I mean, they did that ONCE. And they were these weird thin TPBs. What meh has are standard comics. Mostly Marvel/DC from what I can tell.
@Office_Zombie Thanks for the encouraging words, Zombie. I don’t like being negative to meh—or anyone else for that matter.
https://www.humblebundle.com/books/bloom-county-comics-bundle
Whole bunch of Bloom County for $15.
@Kyser_Soze Yeah, four YEARS of strips for a dollar. One dollar. Insane. Get it now.
Was reading 1981 when I noticed it was past midnight and time for meh.
@Kyser_Soze Thanks! These guys I understand.
@Kyser_Soze Every time I seem Humble Bundle comics I get excited, until I remember they are digital.
@Kyser_Soze humble got my dollar this time…
@Kyser_Soze Holy crap, that’s a lot of Bloom County.
What? Is this a joke?
(Upon looking at the photos, I might be changing my mind. These look like excellent comics!—let me wipe away my tears from watching Logan, and check my wallet. But boy oh boy I have got burned on comic book deals before.) I may indeed have gone off half cocked.

As far as I’m concerned, the only thing missing from today’s deal is a red Fuko/Foko bag. Sign me up for one package.
/image damp-petite-aftermath
@JT954 Sexy.
No, that’s really what the little death is in French. Sex. Look it up.
/giphy the more you know
@stinks Not sex per se. “The Little Death” refers to an orgasm–that moment in time where the brain is overcome with euphoria and sorta checks out on itself.
@JT954 check ebay. There’s probably a fuku bag on there!

The knives are part of the sunglasses. It’s a killer deal.

Well that was disappointing.
This reminds me to put my dusty comics on fleabay.
Ok its been a cp.l months since i bought something here but this is great for my grandkids @ 35 items for 20 bucks,do the math phenomenal deal. T.y. Meh and the entire team !!!
Not for me…Meh
I don’t need comic books. I watch the news every day.
No Scrooge Mcduck or Jughead and Veronica or Huey, Louie, and Dewey?? Awwww…
@Tadlem43 If you went out for Free Comic Book Day, you can get Betty AND Veronica for free.
http://freecomicbookday.com/SiteImage/CatalogImage/STL035988?type=1
And still have enough for Jughead and the rest via Riverdale (also free)
http://freecomicbookday.com/SiteImage/CatalogImage/STL035990?type=1
@JT954 Ohh…thanks!
In the picture you have included an issue of Moon Knight. Is this a promise or a threat?
Also, Meh.
Dollar Tree has grab bags of comics for $1. Not sure how many are in them, but more than 1. Of course, YMMV as the stock varies by store.
The upfront cost is kind of a gut punch, but when you price it out it’s a steal per comic. Sure you’re bound to (read: guaranteed to) get crap, but I appreciate comics and might find the next series I’m in to!

What’s up with the deal pauses. I never get a notification when it starts back up. Am I just lame? Please, be gentle.
@briancmason it’s paused until 8 am Est today –
Funny deal
I have bought on groupon a d received alot worse. Not a bad deal.
My friend is obsessed with Howard the Duck, so I’m hoping for at least one of those.
/giphy obvious-balmy-kiwi
Gonna score some cool uncle points and get these for my nephew in 3rd grade.

thanks mehtizens who are saying you are priced out at $20.
you make me feel like part of the 1%.

When are you going to sell random packs of over produced Baseball Cards from the 1990’s to match this sale?
Resisted this deal all day but versatile-unmoving-dill finally got me
Anyone else not get a full 10 packs of cards? Only got 7. Also, some of my card packs were stickers, but I consider that an improvement
/giphy foreign-horrified-blademaster
Got mine in today - no repeats! Also, are these reprints or actually vintage? Several of mine are from the 90s. And I got some Power Rangers trading cards. Badass.
@rambopandabear Was wondering the same thing. Have a few from the 90’s and paper looks old
In case anyone wants to hear how and why comics were persecuted as purveyors of evil, outlawed, etc. (they were burned in public bonfires), today only the audiobook is $3.99. https://www.audible.com/pd/History/The-Ten-Cent-Plague-Audiobook/B002V5H2VC
@OldCatLady Do they have a graphic novel version?

I should have ordered 2500 instead of 250. Kids love them; there are some awesome issues in there that are worth big bucks on eBay.
@rkpSLJo85CR0oIl can you share which ones you received that are rare or collectible?
batman #12
