I don’t have these nor have I ever liked or eaten any brand of these. I’m just here to say that we got some (a spicy variety) in a BOC, IRK, or mystery box recently and we were blown away to see how many calories where in there, over 1,000! I knew they were salty but I had thought calories where low.
Strongly recommend using boiling water instead of the microwave. I tried the microwave method the other day and the noodle texture is all wrong; kinda gummy
Remember, it’s like 75% of you daily sodium intake. It’s still fun to eat, though. I usually add chicken, mushrooms, broccoli and an egg. If it’s really spicy like kimchi flavor, I’d add a small scoop of sour cream which makes it slightly less fiery and much richer. Pretty much healthy salads for the rest of the day, though.
These will be really, really spicy if you add the entire spice pack, but you don’t have to, and they will still be really spicy. I’ve tried some of the other flavors and I couldn’t handle more than a third of the spice paste.
@djslack but you know they’re hot - you just like hot, otherwise you wouldn’t even bother with these. 50 cents a pack seems like a deal if are ok with the best by date. I still have some cheese ones from last time.
@gs4 fair point. As a whole, the Samyang ramen flavors are spicier and more flavorful than most of the others I’ve had. It’s definitely a different class than what you regularly find at the grocery, and even better than a lot of the other premium ones like Shin Black or Momofuku. But if someone doesn’t like spicy, well, this ain’t their brand.
Hab lime is my least favorite Buldak flavor, and it’s still way better than Momofuku Spicy Soy flavor.

I use a lot less of the sauce, and it’s fine. Also 3 minutes in my 1200W microwave are fine.

@Lynnerizer the calories shown in the specs are 430 per bowl.
The Best Buy date is today 9/13/2024? I know that they’re still good but no one wants something that has expired.
@RobinSusan
This is Meh. To paraphrase @craigthom above, “it’s fine.”
@RobinSusan “Best By” is different than “Expiration”
@RobinSusan If the “best by” date wasn’t an issue they wouldn’t be on Meh.
@craigthom @RobinSusan
IT’S FINE.
@troy I’m aware that best by dates and expiration dates are different but thanks for the heads up.

@agnesnutter I should try less than the advertised time; that might fix it, now that I think about it.

@goldnectar I haven’t tried with sour cream. I usually use Japanese mayo, but I’m sure the cream helps much more with calories
@Raitono Kewpie is good too. It’s pretty much covered my adding the egg, though.

@gs4 meanwhile I’m over here adding hot sauce to the quattro cheese flavored ones.

@djslack I suck out any leftover sauce from the packet once I’m done trying to put it all on the noodles. It is the best.
