@unksol and… passenger side is barely moving under pressure, in jerks it should not be stuck in high anyway so the circuits or the controller failed and something is binding or sending the signal to keep it in 4AWD… And it has to be the front differential or the half shaft being broken but probably both now… Grumble…
@unksol technically it’s binding on both front wheel sides depending on the angle which I think is good… Front diff is intact still. After much rust… Idk that the rear braker calipers can be saved cause bleed screws. But hey bolt off bolt on.
Need to figure out the wiring harness/cut and replace bad connections or drop the whole motor for the front diff and. Manually select RWD.

I haven’t seen our farmers market this year but they have been rebuilding the bridge for months and the park where they have it is kind of in the construction zone/one way traffic area… I wonder if they moved it somewhere or just canceled it.

@unksol we have a thing like that. It’s the old small enclosed Mall that’s near downtown. It’s been closed for I can’t remember a long long before covid. And is now on its fourth owner. They finally started doing a little bit of Destruction. I mean they do have an issue because there is one tenant left with an outside entrance it had like a 99 year lease or something like that. It won’t move. And they’re working around it’s supposedly but until earlier this year nobody did anything. The new owners are our local billionaires. They have done interesting things like this before. So we’ll see where it goes. For example they wanted the location where the old post office was. So what they did is they went to the post office and said we’ll build you a new one that’s better wherever you want it. And give it to you for free if you give us this land. Post office of course said hell yeah

Came home from a 4-day trip with the grandkids to Colorado. End up spending Saturday getting repairs done on my RAV4 (alternator failed). Finally got home after 5-hour drive from Nashville around midnight. Got up this morning and watered all the plants that were looking pretty droopy. Also hand watered the veggie garden plants and picked a bunch of tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash plus a cantaloupe. Got to watch the France England world cup match (which was fantastic), had dinner, then did a short shift at the ER.
Tomorrow I’ll see if I can’t fix the driver side door handle on the RAV (which recently cracked while opening it). I’ll probably use some fiberglass tape and epoxy to build it back up until I can get the parts to replace it. Also going to have to dismantle a pocket door frame. The cat sitter forced the door open with a wedge in it and now it’s inside the wall space preventing the door from opening. The wedge was there to keep one of my cats from being able to pull the door open and getting into the guest bedroom. At 3pm I’ll go do an 8-hour shift at our local ER. I plan to bring my laptop so I can hopefully watch at least part of the Argentina Spain game.

I feel the cat door problem. I hung a sliding barn door for the walk in closet, no room for a pocket, to keep them and their fur/other problems away from things. They kept getting in. Adding some generic neodymium magnets I had on the door rail and a trim piece make it annoying to close for now but usually keep the bastards out.
If it has a metal rail you might be able to try similar. Add enough resistance to defeat the furry psychopaths but it’s not gonna bother you.
@chienfou also part of my issue was because it was a barn door they could wedge in and also knock out of the bottom guide. With a pocket door the whole wall is the guide so just some rare earth magnets might do it
Having the tallest help with a bathroom remodel he initiated. He’s learned how to take out a floor, repair some subfloor, lay tile, wire some outlets and patch drywall. Waiting for the compound to cure so we can do touchups and paint. Currently putting together fixtures so they can go in once the paint is finished.

That’s awesome. Even if they never do those jobs again at least they have an idea of how they should be done. I’m eternally grateful for the fact that my dad taught me a lot of those types of skills or at least the attitude that if someone else can do it there’s no reason I shouldn’t be able to…
It also pleases me to know that my son picked up those skills and attitudes from me as well.
@chienfou my dad had me start working with him on projects from an early age, and my grandfather also fostered my love for fixing and building things when I stayed with them on the farm. I’m not a fan of wallowing in self pity. I am very much a how can I get this done. Ive always been fiercely independent. Not sure how much is nature vs nurture but it’s who I am. I’m just trying to instill similar ideals and give my kiddos tools so they’re not helpless entitled humans.

I am a DIY’er - I have built two houses (including current residence). I served as general contractor on both.
On the first house, I assisted with the carpentry (I hired two buddies who worked as actual carpenters to run the show and I helped where I could), and did all the electrical, plumbing, and painting myself. I hired subs for for the excavation and foundation work and some of the finish work (sheetrock, carpet, cabinetry, etc.)
For the second (current) house (a significantly bigger challenge), I hired subs for most of the jobs, but I did all the plumbing for the house and the interior finish work in the daylight basement.
@chienfou@macromeh I love it! I worked with him a little on mudding this morning but I’m going to do all the final skimming so we can get it painted and put back together by the end of the day.

This is from yesterday. Had some setbacks, as is usually the case with DIY. Wound up cutting the drywall about 12” from the base on two walls. Found some wonderful things the people that built the house mooked. Also found an active rodent nest as well as a bunch of dead desiccated mice. Got that all removed. Then had to clean all of the internal wood work and treated it with Kilz.
Restored the drywall. Then found that the recessed medicine cabinet had soaked a bunch of the gross smell from the wall. So I pulled it out and rebuilt it. FINALLY got it primed yesterday. Painting the wall color and installing fixtures today. Hope to have it completely restored by the evening. But I may call it and watch rugby and finish in the morning.
It’s been a really great learning experience for the eldest though.
@chienfou@macromeh If my art gig doesn’t work out, I have a friend that’s a contractor that wants me to do plaster work for him. I think it’s years of making buttercream so smooth? I’m pretty bloody good at drywall finishing.

It’s a great idea if you don’t have neighbors in viewing distance (or simply don’t give a rat ass). Allows you to keep humidity down in the room when the weather is nice as well as, ummmm, venting “unpleasant odors”… It’s the next best thing to having an outdoor shower.

Not an issue privacy-wise, since it’s 3 stories up on that side of the house and the windows face the thick surrounding forest. Nearest neighbor is ~600ft away.

Having functional windows in your bath or shower area allows you to have fresh air when the weather is nice (spring and fall at the very least). There’s something highly therapeutic about bathing in fresh air. It’s one of the reasons skinny dipping is so popular.
Unfortunately my neighbor on the side of the house where our bathrooms exist is a bit too close. I was able to put in glass block panels which allow a lot of light (but no fresh air) and provide distorted enough images as to be totally unrecognizable from outside.
There IS an opening window over the vanity to the right of the walk-in shower so it makes for a decent compromise. Now that the bushes between the houses have grown to the point where you can’t see through them and the privacy fence is around the pool equipment it’s pretty safe

We have to have a second curtain, not for privacy but to prevent the shower spraying the entire window. I contemplated making hurricane blinds but that wouldn’t keep water off the sill. We keep it open otherwise just to let the natural light in.
This morning (Sunday) was tear down day for the displays in the fabric arts section (quilts and such) of the local county fair. My wife is the head honcho of that section, so naturally I am “volunteered” to help out. We disassembled and loaded the framework used to display the creations into my pickup, I hauled it home and unloaded it into my barn. All ready for next year…
Procrastination is my best skill. I practice it a lot. So today, Aug 2, downsizing is my goal. Or at least make a pile of things I need to get rid of one way or another. A chunk of the downsizing pile is irk stuff.

Having functional windows in your bath or shower area allows you to have fresh air when the weather is nice (spring and fall at the very least). There’s something highly therapeutic about bathing in fresh air. It’s one of the reasons skinny dipping is so popular.
Unfortunately my neighbor on the side of the house where our bathrooms exist is a bit too close. I was able to put in glass block panels which allow a lot of light (but no fresh air) and provide distorted enough images as to be totally unrecognizable from outside.
There IS an opening window over the vanity to the right of the walk-in shower so it makes for a decent compromise. Now that the bushes between the houses have grown to the point where you can’t see through them and the privacy fence is around the pool equipment it’s pretty safe
@chienfou @Kidsandliz @macromeh @unksol I don’t mind windows in a bathroom. I do mind the one in the downstairs loo. It is in the oddest place. We have to have a second curtain, not for privacy but to prevent the shower spraying the entire window. I contemplated making hurricane blinds but that wouldn’t keep water off the sill. We keep it open otherwise just to let the natural light in.

Light/Windows in general are nice.

We’ve discussed remodeling properly down the road but who knows.
This morning (Sunday) was tear down day for the displays in the fabric arts section (quilts and such) of the local county fair. My wife is the head honcho of that section, so naturally I am “volunteered” to help out. We disassembled and loaded the framework used to display the creations into my pickup, I hauled it home and unloaded it into my barn.
All ready for next year…

Procrastination is my best skill. I practice it a lot. So today, Aug 2, downsizing is my goal. Or at least make a pile of things I need to get rid of one way or another. A chunk of the downsizing pile is irk stuff.
Of course first I need to get out of bed. The cats are preventing me demanding petting while sprawled on top of me. As they are my masters and I am owed by them it may be tough.
