I don’t understand. Where does this charger get its power from? From a USB port on my laptop? Why would I watch a movie on my phone if it’s sitting right next to the larger screen of my laptop?
I’ve been wanting a tilted charging pad for my nightstand beside my bed. I’m a little wary that there are no reviews on amazon or elsewhere.
I wonder, can the blue “charging” light be turned off? I like my bedroom dark, and don’t need a bright blue flare to tell me “your battery isn’t full yet”.
Ok, was i the person to notice :" chop a leak"??? Well, of course doing a plumbing job will seriously slow down meal prep time. Do one task at a time people. Cooking and plumbing don’t successfully multi-task together
@Pufferfishy You’ll lose. I charge not only through a case, but working around a steel plate in that case that lets the phone stay elevated in my car. I’m sure there’s an efficiency loss, but it works just fine.
@Pufferfishy you’ll be fine unless your case is something ridiculous like a Lifeproof or otterbox indestructible thing that provides so much volume around the phone for shock reduction that you can’t put it in your pocket. My wireless charger experience through multiple cases has been all good.
@chienfou “For the privilege of being extra lazy these users of wireless charging expend up to 47 percent more energy to charge their phones, something that if widely adopted would require dozens of new power plants across the globe to accommodate.”
@chienfou@GTTraveller Cool. And I switched out all my incandescent bulbs for LED, which are up to 90% less wasteful. So I think I can get away with a couple wireless charging pads.
@chienfou@GTTraveller “would require dozens of new power plants…” dozens… so we would go from some 62,500 to 62,513 (assuming baker’s dozen 1 for good measure)… I’ll take my chances
Perfect for my kid’s dorm room… I mean bedroom. I hope the tilt works for her $50k zoom classes. That gets me thinking, is there a meh university she can transfer too?
I am guessing there aren’t wires in the rotating joint, meaning there is no internal way for power to get from the base to the Qi coil. Thus each section needs its own power input. They appear to be female micro USB connectors.
The 3 foot or less “Y” cable can power both parts at the same time. Although, the single cable probably has too much of a voltage drop to support charging two things at 5 watts each.
The specifications aren’t clear to me. I don’t know if the 5W rating on the Qi charger is for the power input to the coil, or the power that actually gets to the device being charged.
Each section is wrapped in a clear light pipe that is lit up far too brightly with blue LEDs. This will require several feet of black tape to hide from sleepy people.
Good in theory, terrible in reality. Super flimsy product. One arrived broken. The one that “worked” is so light and cheap that when I put my phone on the standup charger it just flopped back down because the build is so weak. Wish I had saved my $ and bought my 1,000th Bluetooth speaker.
@ChrisHBelAir mine is just barely strong enough to hold my Note10 vertically, but not with any confidence. I’ll probably just use it in horizontal orientation.
Mine both work great, but the LEDs are obnoxious. Took them apart and of course they’re the microscopic SMD LEDs. Wish me luck de-soldering what appears to be 14 of those bad boys.
@ltruelove I tested mine in a brightly lit location so the LED lights weren’t annoying, but I’d change my tune if I were using it in the bedroom (phrasing~
But as it is I’m going to use them in an office so it won’t be a problem.
My other suggestion would have to somehow paint or coat the clear plastic stand, which honestly I think would make it look more appealing. Clear plastic just has such a “cheap” appearance to it.
Unfortunately this is the second product I have an issue with They only charge intermittently. Sometimes they charge and then other times they don’t. good idea but not in practice
Both units giving flashing red lights. They don’t come with the actual wall block, so I have tried several from around the house. No luck. No trouble-shooting in the manual. Disappointed.

So it does QI charging and has two USB ports and is powered by plugging into . . . a USB port?
That single USB port is going to try to supply three USBs worth of power. I don’t think that is going to work at all well.
It’s a shame it doesn’t use a proper power supply, as otherwise it is something I’d like on my bedside table.
@JohnMorris It’s not impossible for this to work well. But it’s Meh so it is probably impossible for this to work well.
@JohnMorris @uscpsycho it will work meh
@JohnMorris Yeah, the spec sheet at http://www.xtremecables.net/RotatingWirelessCharger.aspx says it provides a whopping 5W, so, uh, 1A.
What is the output of the USB ports? Are they Fast Charge capable?
Why does this come with two Y USB cables?
Assume this doesn’t come with the AC power supply to power these, correct?
@uscpsycho “5 Watts”, so no on the QC.
What can I say, I’m a sucker for gimmicky chargers…

I don’t understand. Where does this charger get its power from? From a USB port on my laptop? Why would I watch a movie on my phone if it’s sitting right next to the larger screen of my laptop?
@Pamela The only USB ports you have are the ones on your laptop?
@Pamela Get a USB brick for your wall… Then put it next to your TV.
It looks like a non-USB connector on the charger end, and it doesn’t say how long the cables are. Or how many coils the thing has.
I’ve been wanting a tilted charging pad for my nightstand beside my bed. I’m a little wary that there are no reviews on amazon or elsewhere.

@knodi Assuming you don’t drive around with the “Check Engine” light visible, the same technique should work…
@knodi the one review on overstock mentioned the light is very bright at night. So i assume not otherwise i think they would have turned it off https://www.overstock.com/Office-Supplies/Xtreme-Rotating-Wireless-Charger-5W-QI-Wireless-Charger-with-2-USB-Ports-iOS-Android-Compatible/29137296/product.html

A charger sold by Meh never looked so cheap! If the plastic base wasn’t cheap enough, the plastic stand is clearly clear.
I was actually needing another of these for my desk. Nice.
However, I see you’re now collecting sales tax for Indiana. Not so cool.
Also, I see there is now a faster delivery option. I wonder how long that’s been a thing on meh. New to me.
/giphy fishy-wondrous-ball
@Bandrik Blame Indiana for the tax. Not Meh.
Another item also available at home improvement store Menards!
You know what that means, folks!! It’s time for the latest installment of Meh Menards!
The show where we pit deal-a-day site Meh.com versus Eau Claire, WI based home improvement chain Menards!
Who has the better price this time?!?
Drumroll please…
At the low, low price of two-for-$12, Meh beats Menards’ [one-for-$9.99 pricing] (https://www.menards.com/main/p-1539691242794.htm) which means a sweet, sweet victory for Meh in this round!
Tune in next time for the next round of Meh Menards!
/giphy there can be only one
…I love when giphy gets things spectacularly wrong. Seems apropos for meh.
@GLaDOS living in an area that has Menards aplenty, this makes me happy.
My Question is: What is Irk saying in that last picture? For some reason it looks like “Yomp pop”.
@stolicat I think it is a Rick Roll, or better yet, an Irk Roll
@stolicat His mating call of “Hump Hump”…

Odds of these charging through a cell case/cover? Imma guess 10% at best.

@kbell05 have these. They work well. Just keep in mind that you need to buy quick charge ac adapters for them.
Good in theory, terrible in reality. Super flimsy product. One arrived broken. The one that “worked” is so light and cheap that when I put my phone on the standup charger it just flopped back down because the build is so weak. Wish I had saved my $ and bought my 1,000th Bluetooth speaker.

@Bandrik It ended up being easier to just break them off with a pair of small needle-nose pliers. Works like a champ, and no lights.
@ltruelove Perfect, there ya go!
My other suggestion would have to somehow paint or coat the clear plastic stand, which honestly I think would make it look more appealing. Clear plastic just has such a “cheap” appearance to it.
only works with the charging pad at horizontal. when vertical it is not positioned to charge the phone correctly. 5 thumbs down.
Really useless devices. I set my phone on one for an hour and the charging level barely moves. Talk about “instant regret.”
@wambut Oh, and as others said, the LEDs are ridiculous. I had intended to use it on night table… Fail.
Pure Crap
I am so disappointed, we’ve tried five phones now (both androids and Iphones) and NOTHING charges. Worthless.
The ledge at the bottom that looks like it SHOULD be non-slip isn’t. This product is pretty useless.
