@cfg83@mediocrebot I know this is supposed to be a joke but they make these—and they’re fucking expensive. This one’s 118 ports lmao but even the 31-port version is $3k
Seriously^2, let’s do a payback analysis as if you are a pirate. Let’s say you can get 8GB flash drives in bulk at $2 each. 8GB will fit a hit movie that would normally fit on a DVD. It will cost you 118*$2 = $236. Now let’s say you charge $5 a copy, so it’s $3 profit. That implies you could make $354 per batch. At $13897 / $354 => ~40 batches to recoup your investment. That’s not too bad.
As long as the movie isn’t “The Room”, then you should do ok.
@narfcake I am sure I have some still, with data on them. No available drives at the moment, though since my Zorba portable (like a Kaypro, which my brother had, but with more disc storage; about 360 Kilobytes vs about 340 KB!) It may be a different company, though.
30W from four ports? This thing would stop charging my devices the moment I filled all those ports. Maybe it will make that humming noise devices do when they’ve met their limit.
If you aren’t already oversupplied with medium-to-slow device chargers (by current “fast” standards), these are a good deal. If, like me, your e-waste bin has a bunch of older USB wallwart and lighter plug chargers waiting for the next recycling run, these probably aren’t going to seem all that great. OTOH, if you do a lot of traveling and you only need to keep a phone topped off, a $5 wallwart is much less painful to discover that you’ve left in the hotel room than that fancy 65W GaN unit you grabbed last month. These are definitely not useless.
This deal’s narrative is likely the best social commentary of the week, lampooning everything from housing costs to weird career choices in the face of ruinous economic headwinds. Is Sean Adams still writing this stuff?
Also I get the feeling that people are buying stuff just to create prompts for semi-implausible AI pictures.
