No pharmacokinetic data have been published for maca.[11] The presence of (1R,3S)-1-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-β-carboline-3-carboxylic acid (MTCA) in the extracts of maca indicate a potential safety issue as a monoamine oxidase inhibitor and possibility as a mutagen.[11] Due to these potential mutagenic properties of MTCA, the Agency for Sanitary Security in France warned consumers about the possible health risks of powdered maca root, a declaration disputed on the assumption that MTCA would be deactivated by boiling to process maca roots.[11] MTCA-like compounds are associated with craving behaviour.[11]
@jsh139, breaking it down for everyone’s info: since it contains 3g [freakin equal to 3,000mg] of MCT, it may cause an ‘upset stomach’ . This is code for nausea, heartburn, indigestion, Upset Stomach, Dirrhrea! Now, yous guys know! Ingest @ your own fn peril!!
Recommendation: take with food, e.g. a 10 oz cup of Joe & 2, or 3 Daelman’s Stroopwafels! Enfuckinjoy!!
@decoratedwarvet@jsh139 This is just personal experience, but I take three 14g servings of MCT oil a day and have had no issues. However, I HAVE had a problem if it’s the first thing I’ve had all day. This is why I always mix.
@Trinityscrew Beats the snot out of aspartame and sucralose. Of all the substitutes it also tends to be the only one recommended by dietitians and wasn’t developed by some mad scientist working on an entirely different project. Given the option, just go with sugar.
@Octomeh Yup. I get that stevia is “better” (healthier? whatever) but it has a naaaassssty aftertaste to me, that no artificial sweetener ever has. This would have been better as an unflavored product, but then that’s probably why this is here at Meh!
@jacobbartley Protein doesn’t have a very narrow intake window. You can drink this before/during a workout, and still take advantage of it. Especially if you work out regularly, and your body can make use of the extra protein throughout the day to help with the effects of recent previous workouts.
@ardycake Week 1, Drink lots of Fluids, you are going to be peeing a lot. Drink a High PH+ (electrolyte) water at least a liter, drink regular h2o before during or after daily. It helped me avoid the keto flu symptoms during week 1. You can lose at least 15 lbs the first week. Don’t expect the same after. I plateaued the following 2 weeks without weight loss.
I buy this brand from BJ’s Warehouse Club all the time (vanilla) to make smoothies with an orange juice or pineapple juice base along with strawberries, bananas, and blueberries. Doubt a coffee flavor would taste good with those ingredients. Very unfortunate because this is an excellent price. At BJ’s, it’s 29.99 for one.
Wow, this is actually a top brand, and at a really good price point. This will not give you gastro issues. It’s pea protein (which is one of the better sources of protein), flavorings, and Stevia. What gives you gastro issues is inulin and/or maltitol, and this has neither.
I generally go for vanilla as I’m not a fan of chocolate shakes (chocolate milks tastes much better IMO). This would be a nice change although I see this uses cocoa powder.
On the other hand, this also has Stevia which I like. Or is Stevia bad for you now?
@JT954 It’s not bad for you. It just has a particularly strong, bitter-ish chem taste to me that always overrides whatever flavor is supposed to be there. It is a great price point if your palate can tolerate der stevia. Unsweetened or lightly sugared whey based powder is my protein jam but I’d buy this minus the skeevy leaf!
@JT954@Octomeh I got that same bitter-ish taste when I tried stevia. You really did a great job of explaining this. MUCH better than my “Stevia sucks.” comment. Thank you!
I’m a fan of lots of protein shakes. I dont mind the chalkiness they have. As a bariatric patient (down 40lbs in 9 weeks), I depend on protein shakes to get my protein in. Amazon reviews were good, as far as taste. So we’ll try it!

I had some interest in this product, so i hit Youtube for a few videos and it seems this is a quality product and at a great price, so i’m in for a cpl and if I like it when they put it back on here I’ll buy 2 more good luck guys , everyone wants to be a comedian…It’s like you wait till 12am to come up with a clever comment … some are pretty clever some border line funny , what i really want is some opinions on the product. Have a great day everyone
@mellowirishgent You’re harshing MY mellow with your comments about our comments.
Thanks for doing some research and sharing it with your fellow meh-tizens. But next time, could you try to be a little funnier? It’s like you wait till 12am to come up with useful product information. … some are pretty useful, some border line useful, what i really want is some jokes on the product.
@mellowirishgent, how’s about a tip! Iffin yous likes the stuff, yous may can get some more stuff @ Morning Save! Since, or IF you’re a member here, MS will not fukn charge you a shipping fee!!
@mellowirishgent@Trinityscrew, Now, that was Funny!! I woulda said somethin like dat, but I don’t like bein dised @ 12:30ish a fukn clock!!.. I’ll go full blown PTSD!
I just finished a tub of this and it’s actually pretty good. Pretty strong on the sweetener if you hate that sort of thing. Nice snack with a caffeine kick. My biggest issue with it (and many non-vanilla protein powders) is that there’s really nothing you can add to mix up the flavor, so it can get old if you’re having some every day. Anyway, this is a great price for a good product, so I’m in!
@cengland0 Yeah, I always mix protein with water, but if you like milk that would be an option. It occurs to me that one could add chocolate milk/powder/syrup to change things up, but I’d personally stick with just plain water and skip the extra sugar. Normally with vanilla I’ll also add maybe cinnamon one day, ginger another, some green drink powder, etc.
@Superllama7 Thanks for the response. I don’t drink milk if I can help it. I don’t mind cooking something that requires milk as an ingredient but drinking it could give me a sick stomach. Not sure if I’m lactose intolerant or not because I have no problems if I eat cheese or ice cream. So that much milk in a protein shake might cause me some problems.
Since I put frozen fruits (bananas, strawberries, and bluberries) in my current smoothie mix, it’s actually very thick. Plain water with this would seem to be very thin. Suppose I could use some ice instead of liquid water to thicken it up. Something for me to think about. I really wish this was a vanilla flavor then I would buy up a bunch of these.
@cengland0 Yeah, I’d think this would be good blended with ice. If you want more suggestions: you could cut the added water in half, and/or try mixing it with a “milk” like almond or whatever.
Bought it. Actually bought 2 - 2 packs. Good price. As others noted it’s hard to find something to mix with the coffee flavor, which is likely why it’s on Meh. I will try it with a half an avocado. Slice it in half & the side with the pit gets wrapped up tightly to be used later (it works!). The avocado thickens it nicely & adds fiber & fat to my breakfast. Taste, tbd. I’ll report out on that when it arrives.
I was about to buy a few tubs of this brand on Amazon and noticed the MCT one. Nice! I guess it’s time to get back on the keto wagon. I also am a coffee fiend so I just couldn’t say no to this deal.
Bought 2x2. Stocking up for the post election apocalypse. Caffeine + fat will be better than the standard protein powder when running from Antifa zombies.
@ChrisHBelAir, What About Them QAnon Assholezies, those White Supremacists, Neo-Nazis, KKK, Skinheads, Alt-Rights, Proad Boys, Nationalists, Right Wing-nuts & the F R Militias¿? Then there’s Martial Law¡!!
Need powder, bought it. Vega is a good brand and that’s my main concern, gonna chug it anyway so don’t care about flavor. It’ll help me on my newly started exercise bike journey by substituting brunch.
None of three (Costco/Sams/BJs) warehouse clubs around us carries the “Cold Brew Coffee” flavor any longer. Perhaps that’s why it is showing up on Meh?
For me the big draw is that the only energy supplement in this is straight caffeine; most protein powders have taurine in them and that stuff gives me anxiety attacks.
I forgot ta mention dat I received my order of those fn Daelman’s Stroopwafels this mornin around 10ish!! Day came by Fedx & it only took 5 days, so I don’t understand all da hoopala about da deliveries takin sooo dang long. Of course, I live down South [ God’s Country] near Texas, where they cum from! Neow, Bring On Dese Buckets a Protien, sos I can get my ass an old fashion 70s Head Buzzzzz!! Damn!! My pain meds come in nx week, so I’ll be feelin like some sweet 16 yo hippie!! Somebody in Colo send me some fuckin Scurb!!
Pretty fast delivery by Meh standards, has the consistency of flour, yellow flour, not grainy at all ,1 scoop =4 heaping teaspoons , very lite coffee flavor other wise went down bland without flavor , instructions says start with 1/4 scoop to avoid upset stomack, i’m going to try putting in 4 oz of iced coffee may improve the taste but overall first impression is a big PASS !!
Arrived a few days ago. In the first smoothie made from this stuff I added an avocado, a 1/3 cup frozen blueberries, water & ice. It did not taste good but it wasn’t horrible either.
The second one I mixed up was straight VEGA Protein & Energy Coffee Protein Powder, nothing but water & ice. Not good, they other concoction was more palatable.
I can see how this ended up on Meh. No I would not buy this at the regular price. On sale, likely yes. At this price, for sure, no regrets. But then I am a cheapskate.

Run away! Run away!
@yakkoTDI Is this what they did with the “recycled” oil from Chevrolet Vegas? I always wondered.
Gross
you are correct!
I don’t know what this stuff is but I get the feeling it would give you painful diarrhea.
@jsh139 But your farts will smell like a fresh cup of coffee!
@jsh139 @mike808 This won’t have any such effects. As I said below, what you need to watch out for is inulin and/or maltitol. This has neither.
@jsh139 Wikipedia’s maca article says:
@jsh139 My diarrhea wasn’t particularly painful after I drank this

Whey 2 Go, Meh!
Had to put skank ass stevia laced crap up for sale.
Rather drink powered possum parts.
@Octomeh If it has to have a non-sugar sweetener, Stevia is the way to go.
@cinoclav @Octomeh Stevia sucks.
@Octomeh Whey 2 go. I see what you did there. I get it. I get jokes.

@Octomeh I like monk fruit much better. And then of course, there is sugar…
@Octomeh, aka, possum innards! Let’s Go Out In Taffic & Get Ran Over!!
@cinoclav @Octomeh @Trinityscrew, that’s what she said!!
@cbl_wv @Octomeh, sometimes the bad aftertaste is bacteria & other crap on one’s tongue! JSYK!
@cinoclav Once stevia beats the snot out of aspartame and sucralose do they become healthier? You know, without their snot?
@Trinityscrew Nah, they all still blow.
Eh, got some. We’ll see how foul it is, in a world of foul protein powder mixes.

@jacobbartley Some of us use this for nutrition supplement without workouts in addition to regular life’s toils.
Shit I’m on the Keto diet… Guess I’ll bite the bullet. (20 lbs down in 3 weeks )
@rileyper today is my first day. Im trying to get my covid weight off! Any tips?
@ardycake @rileyper, yes, try SARS-CoV-2; if you end up in ICU, you’ll lose plenty of weight!! I fn Promise!!

Pea protein and coffee. What a perfect pee combination.
After the list of ingredients it says: contains coconut. But I t’s nowhere in the list of ingredients. ???
@tweezak MCT oil is from coconuts
@tweezak, if coconuts are a fruit it does mention ‘Fruit Extracts’ in those Spec ingridients,… Just a thought!! MCT oil can derive from Coconuts!!

@Superllama7 What do you mix this flavor with then? Just water alone?
@cengland0 @Superllama7 From the gif I think you mix it with money
@cengland0 Yeah, I always mix protein with water, but if you like milk that would be an option. It occurs to me that one could add chocolate milk/powder/syrup to change things up, but I’d personally stick with just plain water and skip the extra sugar. Probably as good as the crap battery fidget spinners these clowns have been selling over the past years.
Might work as fertilizer or weed killer.
Sorry if the naturopaths are offended, but you can probably the same buzz with Red Bull and chewing on straw.
@ACustomer Gonna have to disagree with you… This tastes pretty good, but not as good as a battery fidget spinner.
@ACustomer, or two Percocets, if it’s a ‘Buzz’ you’re lookin for!!

Did I miss it - what is the expiration date?
This is Meh afterall.
Just realized this is what my spouse drinks and the current bottle is empty so it is on the BJ’s Club shopping list.
But that expiration date determines whether we buy 1 or 2 2x packs.
Bought a double pack. Will come back and buy another double pack if the expiration date is reasonably distant…
