@shahnm@sligett yes. They will literally try to eat anything! I remember hearing that people and pets ingested them and then had major damage to internal organs.
I bought a whole box full of packs of Bucky Balls before they were “permanently” banned. The hell I was going to be told I couldn’t have something by a bunch of busybody bureaucrats!
So now I have a bunch of Bucky Balls I have never used, along with the relatively newly won ability to buy as many more as I want.
@shahnm I hear you, I have lawn darts I am afraid to use because as kids we would accidentally break the wings, and it isn’t like I can go downtown and pick up a new set.
@caffeine_dude@shahnm As kids, we would try to hit each other to see who could throw them the farthest. Fun times. My cousin still has the scar in his calf.
@cinoclav Not us. They were taken away from us, so we moved on to building rockets until we ran out of igniters and I lit one using matches. That was a fun trip to the emergency room, but no more rockets. So we made flares with pool chlorine (HTH) and Pine-Sol after that and tennis ball/potato guns with pvc and lighter fluid after that. Fun times.
@mike808 Reminds me of the school project my friend and did trying to make our own firecrackers. To this day I have no idea how and why our teacher let us pick this particular endeavor.
@mike808 as 12-15 year olds in the mid-1970s, my friends and I used to launch model rockets, some with explosive “warheads” (think 3-5 M-80s) and other similar payloads to altitudes well above the jets at 800-1000 feet on approach to Laguardia airport.
To my knowledge, we never tried to hit any of the planes. Regardless, no one seemed to give a shit.
I feed these to my kids then when dinner is ready I fire up the electron magnet and they fly right back home. Can be mess if there’s a lot of stuff between the house and their head. Oof
Once again I find myself in a starring role in a Meh writeup! Thanks for the nice words.
I want to clarify: these are fun, and you’re right about mindless frustration. My inability to get the cube back without one layer somewhere in the middle constantly laughing in the face of my desire to establish order got to me. And still does; I never did get a perfect cube back and just learned to let good enough be good enough.
I also never tried for as long as I did the first night I played with them, so there’s that. I will eventually settle for just cramming them in the box without trying to make a cube every time. But I will still buy into your dumb games.
I would like to see the machine that cubifies them for packing in action.
@djslack It seems that your experience with these balls has achieved full Meh status… That is why you’re the poster boy, and the rest of us aren’t worthy. Or maybe we’re too worthy. I dunno. It’s Meh. Someone else figure it out.
Got these last time around. They are fun. However, I dropped a chunk of these on the ground (concrete floor) and lost 6. I found 4 pretty easily. Then a month later I found another at about eye level on the metal shelving behind where I dropped them. Still missing the one.
edit: ok, I’ve had this problem before… upload two different pics, the 2 image links are different but the images display the same. Frustrating.
I’ll move pic #2 to a reply, I guess.

Meh, and wtf 2 for Thursday? Tuesday is gonna be pissed!
… but we’ve got the biggest balls of them all
@nolrak just a little bit smaller than last time…
Especially since it’s Friday.
I CAN explain this
This deal is strangely attractive.
Meh. I’m tempted. But what if my cats eat them? I’m guessing they carry the same issues that the originals did???
@savvysapphire What issues did your other cats have?
@savvysapphire @sligett Apparently a taste for Bucky Balls…
@savvysapphire I’ve had miscellaneous sets of these magnets and my cats have never tried to eat them
@shahnm @sligett yes. They will literally try to eat anything! I remember hearing that people and pets ingested them and then had major damage to internal organs.
I’m gonna pass. I still have unopened packages of Bucky Balls in my desk.
No thanks, I still have plenty of buckyballs.
I bought a whole box full of packs of Bucky Balls before they were “permanently” banned. The hell I was going to be told I couldn’t have something by a bunch of busybody bureaucrats!

Which is none.
I showed them.

@mike808 So it’s officially your fault I can’t have some damn Jarts huh? You bastards.
@cinoclav Not us. They were taken away from us, so we moved on to building rockets until we ran out of igniters and I lit one using matches. @cinoclav @mike808 sounds like years of training for hold my beer and watch THIS as an adult! My kind of playmates…
@mike808 Reminds me of the school project my friend and did trying to make our own firecrackers. To this day I have no idea how and why our teacher let us pick this particular endeavor.
@cinoclav @mike808 I’m glad to not be your neighbor, Mike.
@cinoclav @mike808 - When I was in 2nd grade a neighbor kid and I tried to melt some marbles by pouring gasoline on them and tossing in a match.
Not long after that I stopped smoking…

Amazing how the world has changed…
so these are about half the size of a standard bb.
I’d be more concerned about accidental inhalation than swallowing.
@kalfaz stop putting magnets in your mouth.
@kalfaz @RogerWilco …nose
You missed a great opportunity to spell MEH with these balls.
I feed these to my kids then when dinner is ready I fire up the electron magnet and they fly right back home. Can be mess if there’s a lot of stuff between the house and their head. Oof
@bugger using all MRI might be quicker
@bugger
@bugger reported to Child Protective Services
@RogerWilco
@RogerWilco Balls?
@kensey @RogerWilco always wondered if/how the production team got that ad shoot approved… and how they cleaned it up. Liability/environment/etc…
@kensey @RedOak @RogerWilco CGI…
@chienfou @RedOak @RogerWilco Nope, not CGI: https://www.jwz.org/blog/2005/07/two-hundred-fifty-thousand-superballs/
@kensey @RedOak @RogerWilco OK… I stand corrected! So yeah… good question(s) RedOak…

@t0nyc0tt4m missing one is almost worse than missing 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6.
Buy another couple blocks of them to assure you’ll always have replacements.

All I can picture is Magneto using small metal balls to escape the supervillain prison. Will Mystique shoot them in me?
My order number was lamentable-mischievous-dress. Not sure why I couldn’t put that in with the pic.
Hoped for more wordplay on this mehness today…
Sigh… Mehned again…
How do I get these out of my colon?
@Bumplepimp Piano wire.
@Bumplepimp …to quote the proctologist:
‘It’ll pass…’
@Bumplepimp Put a magnet against your belly, and guide it out manually.
@Bumplepimp Shit man, don’t worry about it.
@Bumplepimp “million-in-one shot, doc!”
I bought these and they were way too small for my 10 thumbs to deal with. So Mrs Cranky took them just to goad me. thank you meh.

Been there, done that… twice.
Meh.

For them that have an attraction to all things magnetic…

Is the second image on the product page broken for everyone else?
@PooltoyWolf nope, it’s a hyperspeed gif of playing with the magnets.
@djslack Huh. It’s been entirely broken for me since midnight. Oh well

@midstarrynight It worked! Your order number is: daffy-marginal-viper
