@DrunkCat Drain water? AI farms are not filled with water until drained. Maybe you meant supply water. Maybe you should stop using AI to write your comments if you ever hope to win them back.
We got these last time and so far, so good. Seems like they’re well made and the one caveat is that you don’t want to leave them out in direct sunlight as this material will degrade.
@mudbat fortunately I have a lot of variations on those already. Some are plastic and metal but the metal is usually an aluminum thing. You won’t find much old-fashioned quality brass these days. If you still have brass from 40 years ago, clean and lubricate it; you can probably get another 40 years out of it. Unlike me. Oh, now I sound like the “get off my lawn!” guy.
@mudbat@pmarin I’ve read many reviews saying that the nozzles are junk, and some leak/fail immediately. I have a few of the old twisty brass nozzles, and they do last forever. I just swap out the rubber washer every 5 years or so…
I got a pair of these last time, so it’s been a few months now. Too soon to say if the hose is going to last, but it’s great that they are lightweight, it’s much easier to move around and water a few potted plants with this than with a stiff and heavy garden hose.
True, but don’t pull on them too hard if you are used to sturdy hoses. I had a similar one that I did something dumb and separated the connection. Can always use the material to secure a plant or something.
These require back pressure to work properly, which is why they give you the nozzle. So I’ve kept my old hoses for filling my pool, and have a couple of these for other tasks.
Has anyone owned one of these expandable hoses that actually lasted more than a few months? I know i have not - they always burst, usually near the fittings.
@Pufferfishy@yakkoTDI I did have a year when a hose burst and my water heater valve was leaking and other stuff. Turns out my water pressure regulator in the house had gone bad and was putting out about 140 PSI when it should have been 50-60 max. Most houses don’t have a gauge but you can buy one that screws onto a hose spigot. So in fairness the failure I blamed on the cheap Chinese hose was not entirely its fault.
@pmarin Fair point. I would say the pressure here is fairly average based on the places I’ve lived. That’s obviously not as accurate as a gauge - but I’m fairly confident that if it were abnormally high I’d recognize it when using the hose to water or fill the pool.
@Pufferfishy I bought these last time, but I have two 50’ of another brand that I got off Amazon two or three years ago too. They’re still fine, and the ones I got here are fine, as are the nozzles. In my opinion, two things are necessary to keep any of these in decent condition. First, the hose can’t be dragged around like a 100’ rubber hose. It has to be treated with some care. So pulling around is a sure way to ruin them in short order. The other thing is I always let mine fill, then pick up at the fittings and carry them to where they are extended fully, then do it again with a second hose if there is one. Finally, when the water is shut off, be there to help the hose back to it’s shrunken size (or carry it back to its resting place and then drain the water). No doubt pulling on the heavy connections (or the hose pulling itself) will ruin one in a hurry.
@Pufferfishy The one I got off Amazon back in 2020 is still going strong: Buheco Expandable Garden Hose 100ft with…4 Layers Latex 3/4’’ Solid Brass Fittings.
It sees very light use since I don’t have grass or a garden (large patio/deck, mulch, gravel). Mostly just for washing my vehicle and hooking up “just in case” when using the propane fire pit. I also drain it properly and coil it in a storage tub in the garage for storage.
Based on previous comments from people who seemed to know their stuff (“galvanic corrosion”), I wouldn’t get a hose with copper plating if you have brass fittings on your house.
@searcher I haven’t “tasted” this one but usually the internal tube is a neutral stretchy plastic, not like the rubbery classic hoses. I probably would drink from one in a pinch if I let it run a bit first.
For things like an RV hookup I would go for the old classic white. You can get them at Wal-mart even. Or there is a new more flexible blue that seems good.
So the silver bullet is for vampires… or is it werewolves? Or if you like Coors Light. What is the copper bullet for? … and appears to be copper-colored aluminum…
Back when Woot! has this weird side site that was like a forum where people posted deals they’d found elsewhere, I saw a deal from Sears (remember them?) for a 100’ rubber hose for something like $20 with their loyalty program.
For years I’ve left that hose outside every summer, mostly taking the water to my raised beds and their drip pipes. I’ve got a quick disconnect on that end to I can easily water other things as needed.
The hose is not drying out or showing cracks. It’s heavy, and the water in it gets warm, but it’s a beast.
I’m afraid I won’t be able to replace it if anything bad happens.
This has nothing to do with the current deal; I just want to sing the praises of my Sears rubber hose.
@craigthom@yakkoTDI Oh yeah. An important part of my childhood. And people 100 years before that, which is weird to think about. I remember the full catalog was an inch thick and weighed several pounds. Back then for many people in remote areas it was literally “mail order” and the stuff would come to town, usually by train.
And yes they literally sold everything.
Also don’t forget the step-brother Montgomery Ward. My wife actually worked at one as HR manager in a local store when it still existed. We were on a plane back from a trip to Europe (back when they gave you newspapers) and read they were all closing. That store was rebuilt as a Home Depot. Others in the area still sit as empty hulks in semi-dead malls down the street from their Sears brethren.

Every one loves cheap hose!
@yakkoTDI
/youtube Bob Dylan, everyone must get hosed
ignorant bot (but still good song above!)
“Expands to 50 feet when doing hose stuff”
When 2 hoses are connected together?
@n8mack33 Yep – we should have clarified!
@n8mack33 @troy well, that would make it less fun. The confusion IS part of the experience we pay for here.
That a hose in your pocket or you just glad to see me?
These are the hoses they use to drain out water every time you use “AI”.

The hoses are pretty good but the nozzles don’t last.

@Mandamm or someone tied-up in your basement?

@Pufferfishy I got lucky, mine burst in the middle after 3 months.
LOL - reviews (especially the photos) on Amazon confirm these are the same old Chinese crap.

These are awesome and last years if you bring them inside. If you leave them out they will not last. IME
not in use you can easily pick one up and manage with one hand, super light weight, easy to store
PANS! GLANDS! CRAYONS! AWESOME!
Definitely a real product photo
@Pufferfishy looks way too jolly.
@pmarin @Pufferfishy Didn’t he actually pimp a similar type hose?
@pmarin @Pufferfishy @yakkoTDI he did. This hose in fact.
@Ignorant @pmarin @yakkoTDI whale oil beef hooked
Are these ok for potable water?, I mean are they safe to drink from?

@pmarin I know copperhead was BBs and pellets from Crossman. Maybe these will work in my Red Ryder BB gun.

I got this a month or so ago last time (or morningsave) barely used and will not coil back up
Good enough for the co-host of Tool Time, good enough for me.

They were Amazon before the internet existed. They sold pretty much everything.
