@werehatrack in the 50s it might have sounded “space aged”. Today, it makes me think “chemicals, I’ll pass”. Though if we knew all the things that we use every day that started in the lab…
@ybmuG Yes, plastic, albeit a pretty tough plastic. Same material Legos are made with. Still, plastic. Will crack / break if stressed too much. Would it crack if screwed onto the shower head arm too tight? Maybe. But screwed on too tight, and/or frequently re-positioned while using would increase chance it will crack. Also, chances increase with age, so after a couple/few years, increased risk of failure.
@drz@ybmuG I will note that until I found it necessary to install a shower head that had a detachable wand, I had a shower head similar to this one which was easily the least troublesome one I’d ever seen. It did exactly one thing well, and that was all I needed.
@drz Oh hey - i just realized it’s just the fully spelled out version of ABS. Got it. Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene does sound like they are made in a lab with hazmat suits on though
Not as funny as the material I swear I heard on a late night ad for Popeil’s Pocket Fisherman back in 1976: “Made of ultra-durable polyethylsquait hydraphibilide!”
Granted, we HAD been smokin’ sumpthin’ funky…

WTF? Something that’s actually useful?
But, the big problem is that it not on a long hose so can spray yourself ALL over!
So… plastic?
@ybmuG Yep.
