People of Meh, convince me not to buy these. I’ve been avoiding wireless charging since my Galaxy S7 Active’s battery pillowed…but perhaps it’s less risky these days. Currently using a Galaxy S10+.
@Kyeh@TheGreatNico I think it was because I was mostly always wirelessly charging the S7 Active. I was hoping the tech had become a bit easier on the battery since then.
@Kyeh@PooltoyWolf lower power wireless chargers would be less detrimental than a ‘good’ high power one, but an old 4.5w USB 1.1 charger would be best, for the battery. You have to weigh battery life span versus functionality. Those low and slow USB 1.1 chargers couldn’t charge my Galaxy fold 5 even if left overnight due to it’s idle power draw, so it depends on what your phone needs.
@Kyeh@TheGreatNico Agreed. My phone charges overnight on a 1 amp charger, something that would have been adequate for an iPhone 4 but by today’s standards is a trickle charger.
@Kyeh@PooltoyWolf@TheGreatNico It’s 10W which means 5V @ 2.0A at best (or 9V @ 1.3A, which is 2010 charging speeds), and you’ll never get “at best” because it’s wireless charging, which is inefficient to start with. Modern fast charging is 5V@3.0A. Unless you’re sitting somewhere for significantly longer than it would take to plug in your phone to a 15W wired charger for 10 minutes, you’re going to be waiting awhile… like 2½–3 hours (probably more) to get to 100% for the S10+.
This is a very pointless product if you use your phone with any regularity/can’t leave it on the stand for literally hours at a time—in fact, I can’t think of a single reason to use something like this unless you only use it while you’re asleep in bed. If you want just regular crappy wireless charging, buy a 12-15W (even then you might only shave ~40 minutes off the total charge time, but you might actually hit 2015-level charging speeds), because this one is a waste of time and money.
@PooltoyWolf For the people worried about heat from wireless charging…don’t. The heat you feel on the outside of your phone at any time is the heat that is syphoned away as part of the cooling system. Also, wireless charging, while it does lose some energy as heat, does not damage the battery any more than normal charging. This is accounted for in phone construction. In fact, it reduces the use of your USB port which increases the life of the port. Also, more powerful wireless chargers tend to have their own cooling system to keep the heat from the unit away from the phone. I have a Samsung fast wireless charger on my nightstand and my phone is never hot in the morning.
The problem with these ones is they’re weaker, but I did consider buying a set because they’re so cheap.
@Kyeh@PooltoyWolf@TheGreatNico 15W isn’t really very high, especially when we’re talking wireless. And it especially doesn’t matter because all modern phones have ICs dedicated to regulating the voltage/amperage at which your device charges. It’s certainly the case that lower amperage will help your battery last longer, but your phone isn’t going to charge above a certain threshold no matter what. Chances are you got a bunk/heavily cycled battery in your S7, it happens—especially if you buy used/refurbished.
@PooltoyWolf I had the Logitech one meh sold a while back. Premium looking. Burned a hole on my night stand, charred. I didn’t do anything silly to it and it tried to kill me.
@PooltoyWolf
I am also a “late adopter” and still rock an S10. Looking to switch it out soon due to EOL support issues. Don’t use my phone that much so wireless charging is good for me.
I also have an S10+, bought supposedly brand new old stock, for similar reasons as you. I’m not a heavy phone user as many others are(my kids ) It does everything I need, browsing, blue-toof audio, very light gaming, texts, and actual phone calls, and it takes pretty damn good pictures. I upgraded from an S8+ about 2-3 years ago.
When I was deciding what to upgrade to from my S8+, I kept reading how many people think/thought the S10+ was the best phone ever. I know that’s probably not true, but it has a higher resolution screen (~3k x 1.5k) than just about all the newest phones. It also has an sd-slot, which is becoming almost impossible to find now. I don’t really “cloud”, so…
I like it so much, that last year I bought a spare, also new old stock, and just found the battery on that one pillowed as well. I’ve only charged it twice… Already got a new battery, and will be replacing it soon.
Supposedly 4G-LTE will be around for at least 10 more years or so, so I/we should be good for a while.
It’s gotten hot to the touch several times since I’ve had it from both wired & wireless charging. I just changed my “pillowed” battery about a week ago, 18 bucks and it came with the tiny Philips-head needed. Changing the battery was easier than I expected, as the pillowed battery conveniently popped the back cover off for me, which supposedly is the hardest part of the process.
@Achromatter I started with an S5 as my first true smartphone, then progressed through an S7 Active, S8+, S9+, and now the S10+. All served me well, but I didn’t have the S8+ for very long because someone stole it! No idea why you’d steal a several year old fingerprint protected phone in a ratty case…but oh well. I’ve been using Galaxy phones for so long now that I don’t wanna use anything else. The cameras are fantastic on them; I especially appreciate the Night Mode on this S10+, it’s really good.
@Achromatter@PooltoyWolf
Still have plenty of micro USB cables around so no real biggie to me. It’s not like you are going to plug and unplug a wireless charger much, right?
Any idea how these work with a case on your phone?
Might be nice to keep the phone charged in the shop while I stream to the BT speaker… I like the convenience of just setting it down and not fumbling with a cord.
@chienfou Check the specs for your phone and case; most phones allow a case thickness around 2mm. The charging pad is not the determining factor if it’s properly designed.
I hate DHL. UPS + USPS have a service that sends email alerts for delivery progress. DHL doesn’t seem to. I keep track of my expected deliveries but I can’t with DHL.
@suewalsh1 And the worst of both worlds is when DHL is the initial leg of a USPS SmartPost delivery. DHL is sketchy about when they hand it off to USPS, and then USPS seems to get it delivered before they start tracking their end of it.
Mine arrived over the weekend and so far I’m pleasantly surprised. They actually work very well, and all the phones I have tried in them have responded to the qi charger on the first try. The fact that it’s micro USB is really not important to me since once you plug it in there’s no reason to unplug it unless you move it somewhere else in which case you don’t have to unplug it from the actual charger just from the USB-A.
This is actually one of those products that I will buy more of if they reappear on this site in the near future. If not, I’ll suck it up and buy them from side deal for slightly (80 cents a pair) more.
@chienfou
Crap!
Price has changed from $12 a pair to $15 a pair. Going to wait to see what support says (see below) before I pull the trigger again. Anyone else have trouble with their units?
Well pooh!
One of my two units failed within the first 10 days. It is now constantly blinking from blue to green and doesn’t charge. I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, plugged into a different wall wart, etc etc with no luck. I’ve reached out to support to see what can be done. Bums me out cuz I really like these units. Hopefully the other one will last.
@noadave
That was my experience as well. As noted above one of my two failed. Hopefully the second one will last. Support was good about making it right though.

/giphy I have the power
It’s two for Tuesday on Wednesday…
Now meh has gone backwards 24 hours for Daylight saving time.
@OnionSoup uhhhh it is Tuesday. Might want to let the pipe cool down between hits.
@bugger I hope you’re on the west Coast, in that time zone. If you’re not, I think you’ve overslept.
It comes in PURPLE!
People of Meh, convince me not to buy these. I’ve been avoiding wireless charging since my Galaxy S7 Active’s battery pillowed…but perhaps it’s less risky these days. Currently using a Galaxy S10+.
@PooltoyWolf Well, in the “How do you charge your phone” thread, @TheGreatNico said this:
https://meh.com/forum/topics/how-do-you-charge-your-phone#65f1256963eaedfb76c3ea47
@PooltoyWolf With these, you have to stand while charging. That should be a good enough reason not to buy them.
And, “battery pillowed”?? My pillows are all solar direct.
@PooltoyWolf Don’t buy them!
Seriously, they’re kinda weak, and it’s from Meh.
Time for you to upgrade your phone bro!
@Kyeh @TheGreatNico I think it was because I was mostly always wirelessly charging the S7 Active. I was hoping the tech had become a bit easier on the battery since then.
@robson I have only had my S10+ for about a year. I cannot afford new phones, so I buy last generation flagship models. Been that way since the S5.
@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf lower power wireless chargers would be less detrimental than a ‘good’ high power one, but an old 4.5w USB 1.1 charger would be best, for the battery. @dvermilion @Kyeh @TheGreatNico My concern with higher wattage wireless charging is that it may damage the battery due to heat generated while charging.

If you glue these to your head for Easter they might look ever so slightly like bunny ears.
/giphy snobbish unsafe pest
Hard meh. My super dooper Oneplus 12 does 50W wireless charging and has fancy-pants cooling to keep the battery safe.
(but I still slow charge cause I’m a big baby)
And what do you mean adjustable???
Any idea how these work with a case on your phone?

@werehatrack
So since it’s currently works I don’t need to worry about it… Thanks for the confirmation.
Ok pulled the trigger on a set. One for the shop and one (probably) to leave at the ER for work. We will see…
/giphy vorpal-parasitic-thief
@chienfou
that’s actually pretty cool…
Hot damn, I was just roasting my friend lolo because they didn’t have a backup charger anywhere in their house. Perfect gift for them and myself

Mine doesn’t work but my husband’s does. So unfair

Are you SURE? Maybe you got them mixed up and yours is the one that works!

OWLS! TOWELS! JOWLS! AWESOME!
They are not the fastest, but they work better with my case than other wireless chargers I have used.

These are awesome! What a sweet deal, for 2 of them!!
