Wireless charging makes the battery get hot which severely deteriorates its lifespan, as does fast charging, to a slightly lesser degree. Like the Beastie Boys said, Low and slow// that is the tempo
@Achromatter The loose coupling of the inductive coils causes losses that show up as heat. While the majority of the heat is generated in the charger, that can conduct across to the phone since it’s in contact, and the battery is usually right up against the inductive charging pickup coil inside the housing. Ergo the battery gets heated from outside. It’s no worse than letting your phone sit in the sun, and even phones that lack inductive charging generally have heat detection hardware and software that is designed to mitigate the effects as much as possible. The effectiveness varies.
@OnionSoup if you throw your battery into a deep enough hole, you can watch it get smaller. It goes from AA! to AAA! to AAAA! And before you know it, your battery watching becomes a watch battery.

I’m glad you have better luck than most of the Apple cables I have run across. Maybe HOW you handle it has a lot more to do with it than I allowed for. I primarily only have interactions with iPhones at work and through my daughter’s family… That may explain it!
Whatever cord is closest. I don’t care about fast charging and my phone only needs to be charged once every couple of weeks under my level of usage so the added convenience of wireless charging wouldn’t amount to much.
I can get a charging pad for Free (swag from computer conferences & print a stand ( yes I have a couple 3d printers, of course they are they DIY Geeky/ Nerdy ones that you have to assemble and do your own repairs, not a plug it in and use it, hey, that would defeat the geeky nerdy aspect of it)
I use electricity.
@yakkoTDI I was going to say something but I saw your response, it made me giggle, and then my first thought was I charge it with my mind

@TheGreatNico
Let it flow
Let yourself go
Slow and low
That is the tempo

Why would wireless charging be worse? I’d think a higher charge rate would be worse, regardless of wired or wireless.
I’ve had my phone get hot while charging on wired and wireless chargers.

@werehatrack solar panel built on top of battery is potentially a bad design?
I go to my local sheriff and give evidence that my phone murdered my laptop, my TV, and my alarm clocks.
That’s good for three charges. Although my alarm clock wasn’t actually destroyed… The AA fell out so that charge gor lowered to simple battery.

Most recently, Amazon Visa, explicitly so that I could collect the points.
To top off the battery, I use whatever cord and brick is handy. If I’m reading an e-book, I might park it on the charging easel.
I throw it on the pad I bought on meh. Very convenient and Apple now has a smart charging system that slow charges so the battery doesn’t get cooked.
@tweezak how new does your Apple need to be to have this smart charging system to avoid overheating?
@katbyter @tweezak about 10 years newer than the android phones that have it the whole time.

Wait, you don’t have to buy a new one?
Constantly, it seems
Microwave.
@blaineg A few people actually believed that hoax.
@blaineg @werehatrack
Why does that NOT surprise me?
With the cord I bought after the cord it came with wore out.
@kittykat9180
Apple phone by any chance? Seems like EVERY lightening cable I have ever handled failed at the cable/connection junction…
@chienfou, yes. But I usually keep my phones for 4-5 years, so I have the cable a long time.
My current phone I got in July 2020.

With armor donned, weapon drawn and head down.

I’m for charging every way possible. Charge baby charge!
