@eeterrific agreed…the phone has a clock. crane the neck a tad and the time is easily viewable. but add a speaker and it would be an easy buy…as is, itsa nope.
@DaveKnowsAll@eeterrific nah. it’s an old school celly not yet smart. you can talk into it but never hear any responses. *context: i’m on a compound with militia people in God’s country living on meh beans and flash lights. still ,i reckon if’n we ever upgrade to phones with speakers they probably would benefit from an external speaker source for our church socials, rallies, and such…
@DaveKnowsAll@eeterrific@Trinityscrew huh?
*sounds out sustenance? whats that? sorry my speakerless phone’s dictionary app ran out of space at the LMNO words.
@awk Yes Video linked by @ParadisePete below shows how to set the time. So when the power flickers it will be like the good old days when your VCR flashed “12:00 12:00 12;00”
Anyone know if the clock is absurdly bright like most clocks like this are? It’s a conspiracy to keep us all up at night (started by hotel chains I suppose, given the inability to dim a lot of those things they stick in the room).
I would be on this if I could only read numbers in large groups. Alexa tells me everything I need to know. If Alexa doesn’t know it I don’t need to know it either
@stinks Did anyone actually get giddy for the blowout brush that was offered along side this item in the YouTube clip? The announcer did promise. My only criticism of this piece is the battery compartment tends to get hot when charging with this method. Li-ion batteries don’t like heat one bit.
What’s a Qi? (j/k, kind of, but I don’t own anything that uses this miraculous charging method, and most of my tech is fairly new… is this like a current-day “MS vs. Apple” thing?)
@cbl_wv Wireless charging standard used by my old Nexus 5 (android). One of many but seems to be the survivor and Apple has apparently recently discovered it so all the Apple fan(atic)s think it is the bees knees.
You can buy receivers that plug into micro-usb or usb-c ports, but I have not had any luck finding one that works with my pixel 3a. (maybe usb-c PD isn’t happy with the receiver?)
@cbl_wv@sdb It’s the ONLY standard. If you see another one, it’s psychotic and only used by that weird device. The other standards died. (Except for the Apple Watch because… they’re insane)
Here’s a “review” video, including a triumphant fist pump when the clock under his phone says 5:00. On his work desk. With a computer screen in front of him showing the time at eye level.
@AmazingChicken Aha, that may be part of why I don’t “get” this Qi stuff - I’ve always kept my phone in a wallet-style holder, so the phone’s back “surface” is, basically, leather. Huh. So no Qi charging for me. (OTOH, I’ve dropped my phone many times, but never done any damage to it because of the protection from the case.)
@AmazingChicken I have an iPhone X and an S9, both in Otterboxes. Both charge fine on two different Samsung wireless chargers and an ATT in car wireless charging mount.
@AmazingChicken My iPhoneX is in an Otterbox Defender and it charges fine on Qi charging devices. I did have issues when I had a Steelie metal plate attached to the back of the Otterbox (Steelie is used for mounting the phone in the car) so I removed the plate.
@AmazingChicken Also chiming in to say my wife’s S7 in an Otterbox Strada leather flap case as well as my S9+ in a Lifeproof Fre’ case both charge just fine on a Samsung wireless charger. You might test yours out if you can…
@cbl_wv Leather is fine for wireless charging. Leather is actually good. The only issue is the extra thickness, the coil in your phone needs to be very close to the pad, so even an extra couple millimeters can be an issue.
I have the same question as above about the brightness of the LED. Does anyone know how much light it puts off, my wife can’t sleep with a whole lot of light and has removed all the clocks from the room saying they are too bright.
I can’t wait to see these arrive. We haven’t had digital clocks in certain rooms since our cable boxes were upgraded. The bonus is that we’ll have more places to charge our phones.
I ordered these and they are just awful. Had to get a wall plug in order for the devices to even come on. Had to also reset the clocks. Needless to say, neither worked to successfully charge my phones.

Does the cable plug into the wall or do we need to provide our own USB power adapter?
@bxm83 “Input: 5V/2A”… that, of course, implies another adapter…
@bxm83 usually for the Rapid charging, one needs a rapid charger block.
no color-changing LED lights on these, no sale.
@elpepe took the words right out of my mouth
They should have included a Bluetooth speaker capability
@eeterrific agreed…the phone has a clock. crane the neck a tad and the time is easily viewable. but add a speaker and it would be an easy buy…as is, itsa nope.
@eeterrific @mehliana wait… Your phone has a clock already but no speaker? Weird.

@DaveKnowsAll @eeterrific @mehliana What form of sustenance do you derive from flashlights?
@DaveKnowsAll @eeterrific @mehliana @Trinityscrew, Light!!
@DaveKnowsAll @eeterrific @Trinityscrew huh?
*sounds out sustenance? whats that? sorry my speakerless phone’s dictionary app ran out of space at the LMNO words.
10W wireless charging
Input: 5V/2A
Output: 5V/1A
@ShotgunX
/giphy explain dalek
@stinks the 10W wireless charging line makes it seem like it’s a fast charging wireless charger, but the 5V 1A output says otherwise.
@ShotgunX Yeah, but you get two of them, so 10W.
Do I have to set the clock?
@awk Yes Video linked by @ParadisePete below shows how to set the time. So when the power flickers it will be like the good old days when your VCR flashed “12:00 12:00 12;00”
Anyone know if the clock is absurdly bright like most clocks like this are? It’s a conspiracy to keep us all up at night (started by hotel chains I suppose, given the inability to dim a lot of those things they stick in the room).
@bigmeh I always chuck the extra decorative pillow on the clocks to dim it.
That’s what those pillows are for, aren’t they?
I would be on this if I could only read numbers in large groups. Alexa tells me everything I need to know. If Alexa doesn’t know it I don’t need to know it either
Just $19 on sidedeal and friends if throwing away ten fewer clams (and getting one fewer pieces of crap) is attractive.
@stinks 1 for $19 is so much better than 2 for $29.

@cbl_wv QI is a British TV program.
So why do I see 12:35 on the side? Or are the numbers really the bottom and the phone is on the side? Which way is up?
Here’s a “review” video, including a triumphant fist pump when the clock under his phone says 5:00. On his work desk. With a computer screen in front of him showing the time at eye level.
So, I put my phone on this and when it runs out of energy I put it on a charger? Does anyone else see irony here?
Not until someone makes tech that can charge my phone inside its OtterBox
@AmazingChicken Aha, that may be part of why I don’t “get” this Qi stuff - I’ve always kept my phone in a wallet-style holder, so the phone’s back “surface” is, basically, leather. Huh. You can buy ones like this at Five Below. Got one for my daughter.

Will this charge through a battery case, like a mophie?
You guys missed it with the last pic, you should have had a hockey player hitting this like it was a puck
It is not charging my phone - even though the red light is flashing - there is no increase in charge after 2 hours!
