It is surprisingly hard to bend… which is generally a good thing for what it is supposed to hold. But it also dips down a lot and bounces pretty easily when you have something heavy (like an iPad) in it.
The clamp is the worst part. It feels super cheap, made of plastic, and I was always afraid of breaking it because you had to twist it very, very tight to a surface. (Smooth vertical surfaces almost never held.)
I really tried to like it, and clamped it to the side of my bed for a couple months. But it was just too damn hard to reposition (a.k.a. re-bend). It was just easier to put my iPad on the bed itself. (Helps that I live alone.) Overall, would not recommend.
@haydesigner - All this. Hate it. I thought it would be good for keeping the phone at eye-level for video calls, but the 1/2"-1" bouncing around when touched made everyone queasy.
@haydesigner They work well if you can do something to stabilize it. I use one to hold a 10" tablet above my monitor, and bent it so it rests on the back of the monitor stand. It doesn’t bounce at all, and works great for that purpose.
The one I use when I feel like laying on my back and reading bounces a lot. It’s annoying, but still beats holding my phone above my face.
I bought a pair of these a couple years ago, and I would describe them as decent, not great… or more appropriately, meh. (I probably wouldn’t buy them again.) As long as you just need to hold a phone relatively still, and you don’t need to touch it, it works well enough. Tablets tend to be too heavy and cause the arm to droop. (I’ve used one to hold a spare phone that I use as a webcam, and the other to record pointing straight down on a table/counter, and both work fine for those purposes since they don’t need to be touched.)
I can confirm that the gooseneck part (above the clamp adjustment handle) is about 2 feet long. Depending on the position of the front camera on your phone, you may need to trim the padding in the holder so it doesn’t appear in the picture.
Anytime I’ve tried something like this it isn’t strong enough to stay still when you try to push buttons on the screen it just moves and won’t resist the pressure. Makes them kinda useless. I haven’t tried this one, but I bet it’s the same.
@rpstrong I bought a Samsung Fold 3 last year. It has touchscreen “buttons” and a couple of physical side buttons. With most of these gooseneck gadgets as soon as you trying to touch or swipe on the screen the whole thing “gives” and moves away from you and doesn’t react to your touches.
I like these and have used them every day since the last time Meh sold them. They’re stiff as hell and that’s what’s up. Pretty sweet feeling getting the Nintendo switch in there and playing in bed looking up at it. I even use it every day for work to hold my iPhone for teams since I work with my laptop clamshell closed.
I got these another time they were offered. Love them and hate them. Great for reading or gaming in bed but they break too easily. Both broke in short order. Continued using them by adding C clamps. Wish they could improve them.
@IAMIS I read earlier comments about the clamp being plastic and prone to breaking. So just imagine if these have been around for a few years and have been sitting in a hot Texas warehouse. That’s going to weaken the plastic even more.
The desk clamp is really solid, and good opening range. It does bob some because of the length, but generally holds its position well with a 10" tablet.

One for each side of the toilet.
Meh, I’m needing something that can grab at least six inches of shelf
@mexicantacos Are you sure you didn’t add an “H” in “shelf” by mistake??
@mexicantacos That is why there are 2 (3+3). Meh knows what you need…just terrible at providing it.
In case anyone was wondering, the goose neck arm is about two foot long according to someone on Amazon.
@squishybrain
Thanks… Because I was!
I have this. Bought maybe 4-5 years ago.

No thank you. I haven’t lost my noodle yet.
I’ll offer $14 for 2.99 of them.
Disappointed in you, Meh.

@phendrick No respect for traditions! What next, sales of Christmas items in October?

It doesn’t have a 1/4-20 stud on the ends of that shaft? Not even one end? Meh.

This is more of a dollar store item or goodwill or tj maxx. 2 for 15? I’d do 15 for 2. Or 2 for 8.
Ummm…no…I still have one of those in a box somewhere from when I bought it in 2019.

@ws1o Why are you pushing buttons on the screen? What vintage is your device?

Finally I can take my overly-complex masturbation ritual totally hands-free. Well, nearly hands free.
Because holding you phone or tablet is so 2015…

@pmarin I don’t know why someone hasn’t made some just like these but with a few design changes to make them last.
@IAMIS @pmarin Or perhaps they have, and that’s why these are being sold here on Meh
Will regret, but perhaps not instantly.
Your order is creepy-deserted-crone
@HordeFather when I look at that “creepy” giphy picture, all that comes to mind is cat ears of a peaceful sleeping cat.
@pmarin That was an incomplete render using StarryAI with the prompt “Creepy-deserted-crone.” Here’s the complete render. It’s a little less cuddly.
I like this one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GQNRQ86/

Finally used one the other day. I like how stout the arm is compared to a different brand I’ve used.
Then, after one use, Drunken Friend snapped one half of the clamp because she drunkenly shoved the whole thing out of her drunken way.
I suggest that when you move the very stiff arm, you grip the base of the arm and hold it it place while moving with the other hand.
