I was the one person who bought them last time I guess, I found them pretty cool actually. Stuck magnet tape on the back of one and now it hangs on the side of my desk. Saves me from constantly going through sticky notes.
@fawkeshawk I bought the 4 pack in early April for Christmas gifts. I bought 2 last week for birthday gifts. I should have bought 2 4 packs first time around. It would have been cheaper and I could have kept one for myself!
I bought 8 of these the last time they were offered. We’re using them on the exam room doors of our veterinary clinic for the patient name and which doctor. They’re working out great.
These are like, slightly bigger versions of the drawing tablets my kid have then, yeah? They’re cool, but like, $6-10 worth of cool. At $15 each it’s a stretch. I’ll see how I feel about it once I’m at work, though.

I’ve found these to be surprisingly helpful to keep around a workshop for brief wood-cutting math sketches. My wife also includes them in her “Busy Bags” for toddlers at work. This model in particular are shaped to stick to a surface instead of handheld, which isn’t a deal breaker but isn’t ideal. I will also say that the reason I bought some last time was to see if the Boogie Board brand was higher quality than others-they are nicer overall, but the writing mechanism is exactly the same as the crappy ones you get from less reputable retailers.
I get that there are reasons why someone might prefer the feel of this product, and maybe it’s nice not to have to worry about buying new markers or chalk, but it’s a little hilarious that we’re reinventing an electronic version of essentially scratching a rock with a rock.
These were a really cool looking novelty when they came out. The local library got some for kids, schools bought them and the company was advertising them as the ultimate note-taking gadget even for college (yeah right): Doodle ahead, then digitize with a phone camera and an app. But for all the reasons already mentioned, they never caught on. As a message board they are slightly less useful then a dry erase board. But there are some niche cases: They look cooler. If you need that. Coffeshop, suburban kitchen, cool erasable signs at work. And the tablet sized ones are great for toddlers in the car, no more melted crayons on the back seat. I got some off-brand ones, and they served their purpose. Might reuse them on the fridge. If you take the battery out, they become write only, with erasure only through authorized personnel
“The last time we offered these they generated a metric crap-ton of discussion…” So maybe we’ll shame you into sending us some money. I mean, this thing, it’s a very cool thing to have. Very. Cool. Very.
I am very glad I bought the 4. I still have one in-box but the other three have found good uses at the office. In fact, if they still had the 4 at the same price I would buy another set, but the price for 2 is not quite there … If you don’t have any, be sure to pick some up today.
I can’t tell if these are “real” LCD displays (you know with pixels and all that) or just a backlit “glow board” with goop between layers like the kids toys. The lack of any technical specs (such as resolution) and “write with your finger” make me think the latter but one-touch erase confuses the issue.
@Sardinicus They are a weird in-between. It is not goo between plastic layers, but a “real” LCD used like goo between plastic layers. Pressure causes a color change, which then stays till a button press initiates an electrical reset of the LCD (needs a battery for that). Pretty cool as a novelty gadget ( a few years ago).
I don’t have any Saturday plans because I have no friends. Will these play video games or talk to me? Even if they did I only have room in my life for ONE new friend
We bought the 4-pack but haven’t used them yet. We’re waiting until we move the kids into their new rooms, then moving to them (the boards, not the kids) on doors for notes or whatever. There’s always use for something like this.
I think the newer VersaNotes (4x4") might be more useful for me. Closer to sticky note size and I wouldn’t have to figure out a place for them to live. Maybe that’s why these are on Meh?
I’d jump in if this were a 4 pack.

One is going on my fridge when I get off my butt, one went to a coworker friend, and one is chilling for now but I have ideas
@fawkeshawk Despite all the griping, they actually sold 785 of the four-packs!
@fawkeshawk They do one thing but they do it straightforward and well.
@fawkeshawk I bought the 4 pack in early April for Christmas gifts. I bought 2 last week for birthday gifts. I should have bought 2 4 packs first time around. It would have been cheaper and I could have kept one for myself!
@fawkeshawk ooh - I was disappointed bc I misread last time and expected them to mount with magnets, so thanks for the magnetic tape idea!
Would definitely buy one for $10.
@PooltoyWolf I’d buy half of one for $5.
I bought 8 of these the last time they were offered. We’re using them on the exam room doors of our veterinary clinic for the patient name and which doctor. They’re working out great.
I would be in for this if they were 8 1/2 X 12ish. Too small. I use in my shop but I need more. Got anything like 10x16? NO YOU DON’T.
@bugger You could put them side by side and then you’d have your 16 inches!
@bugger @Lynnerizer I’ve got your 16 inches right here…
@bugger @Lynnerizer @ZPB TWHS…

Can i get one that has the grocery list of ingredients for margartias already scrawled on? If Meh will do this for me, I’ll buy a set!
Booger boards? What an odd product.
@yakkoTDI guess you didn’t pick these up?
@Ovlovian @yakkoTDI
I’ve been saving this one.
@blaineg @Ovlovian Well played.
/giphy slow clap
Same shit, different month, more garbage, more scraping at the bottom of the barrel
@mcemanuel well, good thing they don’t work for you now huh… You sound like a fun guy
@mcemanuel They should sell us the barrels.
8" – What a waste. Maybe two for $20 on Two-for-Tuesday, but if I was interested in dollar store garbage, I’d go to the DG
Half the price for two, and maybe I would consider it.
Too pricey but since last time I got to play with one at Barnes & Noble and they are pretty cool. Then I felt regret so I’m game this time.

Seems an expensive way to write a temporary note
The “no selective erase” is a deal killer. If you make a mistake you have to start over? Better to get a regular dry erase board.
You have to dig pretty deep into the specs to get the size. 8 1/4 by 8 1/4 inches, about 2/3 of a letter sized paper.

Manga Doodle? Is that a version of Magna Doodle that comes with magnet shapes that make doodling Japanese cartoons – special the big eyes – easier?
@DonBirren must be.

@dbird I don’t see USB - do you mean LCD?
@Kyeh My bad. Sorry.

No problem - I just got curious!
@dbird @Kyeh TLA’s are hard.
Hate to be that guy… (well, not really…) but… the last pic in today’s offering. Doesn’t the product launch at 12AM and not 12pm?

Well, that’s suitably obnoxious.
So it’s a marker board that needs electricity to work? Sorry, I’ll keep taking short term notes on paper towels I steal from truck stop bathrooms.

i want to like this.
But I watched the company’s youtube video, and I was less sold.

This product sucks.
