@uscpsycho That area swings out as a handle for pulling the charger out of the port, since it’s designed to sit flush. From the looks of it you could probably swing the handle out and plug in your bulky cable below it, though that might obstruct the USB-C port at that point.
@danhallock Thank you, I was trying to figure out what that weird look was for. They should have included a picture demonstrating that.
(I didn’t put much effort into researching it, because I don’t have enough need for one of these.)
These look pretty shady. If the 5V/2.4A per port spec is accurate, it’d indicate that these aren’t actually QC 3.0 or USB-C PD compliant, and they’ll charge just as slowly as any random old charger with USB type A ports.
They shouldn’t hurt anything either way, any device should be able to pull power from them safely, but advertising QC 3.0 compatibility and calling these ‘30 watt’ chargers is misleading at best.
Googling just the part number brings up a page that suggests that all 30 watts can be delivered through a single port. Hopefully, this means it can deliver it as 15 volts at 2 amps, so my PINE64 Pinecil™ soldering iron will be useful as something more than a thermometer.
Just got these today and I now resolve to clean my glasses and consume an energy gel before next time I look at a product here.
In the bullet points:
USB-A and USB-C dual charging ports
Was expecting one -A and one-C, which would be “dual” charging ports.
Nope. No USB-A port, which was gonna be my first use.
Does have two USB-C charging ports, which is “dual -C charging ports”, but that’s worded slightly differently.
These will still be a good deal and useful, just not as much immediately as I thought.
When I saw the main picture, I thought the flat horizontal bar in the dead center of the plug was part of the -A port, but when I got the device and grabbed a cord with a USB-A connector, I was surprised to find that there was no actual “hole” at that spot to plug into. That flat artifact is actually part of the hinge that the grab ring turns on. You can see it better in the picture in the third post above. And mine looks exactly like that, in the flesh.
As far as the model number, the label on the mini-box the thing ships in is exactly the same as listed in the specs above. The included paper guide, though microscopic in size, is huge in uselessness. I tried to find a better guide on the Aukey site, but the search for the model number says Not Found. Go figure. They did list several similar devices in function and size, with close model numbers, but none were 2 -C ports.
I wonder if the Meh copywriter got fooled by the same picture I did? Bet you the price of the next IRK they didn’t try plugging an actual USB-A cord into it!
It’s still worth the purchase to me, I just have to revise my thinking about my possible use cases.

That recessed USB port looks like a lot of cables won’t fit in it because their head is too big (bad-dum-tish). Why would they design it that way?

So meh has something to sell when they can’t…
Like the recess; feels like I’m back in elementary school.

@hamjudo
that is honestly exactly what I was thinking about. but I don’t know

@phendrick
nope, you read correctly with the dirty glasses:
and pic sure looks like that’s what you get.
Suspect yours is a different model than what they claimed.
@phendrick
looking the Aukey website they don’t even show a car charger that’s a 2 port type C only…
@chienfou Thanks for the attempted consolation.
