@steelopus Bubba ARE bust, in my experience. Damthings always say “hand wash only” and they aren’t kidding, where these stainless doublewall things just laugh it off. I gave away the Bubbas that I bought, they wuz WUTHLESS, I tell ya!
@brennyn@steelopus I looked at the Bubba’s “hand wash only” thing, and decided that if they really weren’t dishwasher-safe, I didn’t need the sorry POS. And they weren’t dishwasher-safe, the non-vacuum insulating space was so poorly sealed that it got water in it, which meant that it was also going to collect condensation when the mug had cold stuff in the cup. So I foisted them off on somebody else as fast as I could get the water back out of the cavities. I never bought anything else with that brand name.
@steelopus@werehatrack I hand wash my insulated cups and toss in some denture cleaner once in a while. It’s not like I’m carrying oatmeal in there. Although that’s not a bad idea.
Don’t know about the quality of this brand, but I do know this is a good price for the size. I’ve bought the same size, Reduce brand, at Target for about $23-25. (And I have three of them, otherwise I’d buy these.)
@boygenius1991 I have a couple of 20 oz, several of the 32 oz size, and a couple of Reduce 40 oz. Overall, I use the 32 oz size most. You preferences may vary.
@eyesee5769 Damn good question. My eyeball guesstimate says they might be a bit too big for some. The target in my case is 3.3", just a trifle shy of 3 3/8". My 40 oz Reduce tumblers are right at 3.32, and they fit really snug in our Sentra’s console. These look like they are closer to 4", which would be a no-go in our Nissan’s cup holders, but might work in the Grand Caravan.
@eyesee5769 Definitive answer: Mostly, No. Unless your cup holder is sized for something close to 4" in diameter, these are a no-go. The very bottom is about 3.6", and the upper end of the taper is close to 4". On our Nissan, that sits on top of the console and does not go into the recess.
@stinks@werehatrack nay, nay, nay! They were my favorite burger apart from a Quarter pounder with cheese that had been under the heat lamp for 8-10 minutes (yes, I realize those were diametrically opposed). But my goodness the amount of styrofoam in the packaging…
On their website it states; “Screw-on lid Top-rack dishwasher safe” Does that mean that only the top is dishwasher safe? I assume so, since I haven’t seen any of these things that are dishwasher safe, but I am also hoping that I will find one. Then again, I think this thing is too big for every home top shelf dishwasher too.
@Fzero Many things labelled as top-rack diseasher safe are temperature-sensitive, and will warp or shrink if they get too hot. I keep the “heat dry” misfeature turned off, and I find that a great many hand-wash-only items can be tossed in without problems
But not all. Those effing useless huge Bubba mugs will collect water inside the outer jacket, by way of one example.
@Fzero I would like confirmation that the whole unit is dishwasher safe as well. I didn’t think such things could actually be, but a few months ago, I got a couple of smaller insulated Coleman tumblers from Costco that actually are dishwasher safe. So it is possible that these are as well (even the insulated tumbler part). I’ll buy if someone can definitively clarify this.
@Fzero@shahnm I can confurm that the 40 oz Reduce tumblers come through without issues in my dishwasher with the heat-dry cycle turned off. So do many that were marked for hand washing, for thar matter
@brennyn@Fzero@mehsterious The tumblers have a plastic upper rim with the flip-up hook attached. There’s no guarantee that it’ll survive the heat-dry cycle unwarped.
The folding hanger is almost a handle, but isn’t. The bottoms look like they tried to make these fit car cupholders, but they don’t actually say that, so I have to think they missed. The screw-on lid makes sense because of the weight, but they don’t show the details. I just can’t eacape thinking that these things are here on Meh precisely because the design missed too many marks, and was dropped because of that. And I would really like to be wrong, because I would like to find an over-40-oz unit that would drop into most cupholders, particularly if it had a real handle…
@werehatrack you were right. The base is huge and would not fit a normal cup holder. The handle feels terrible in hand as they didn’t round the edges. It also doesn’t have good insulation and I doubt there’s a vacuum in mine
Sold out. Oh well. No real handle for something this big is ridiculous, unless you are a low mountain gorilla. And 50 oz jugs will keep your cold things cold, as long as there is ICE in there to keep it cool. Otherwise, as you drink your hot or cold beverage, room temperature AIR gets inside, and all the desired hot or cold (especially hot) is lost. And a big container with a wide top surface allows a lot of air to interact and coool quickly. And most people don’t drink drink 50 ounces of coffee in under an hour.
Concerning the usefullness of these in a car; unless your cup holder is sized for something close to 4" in diameter, these are a no-go. The very bottom is about 3.6", and the upper end of the taper is close to 4". On our Nissan, that sits on top of the console and does not go into the recess.
Also, the instructions on the inside of the band say “hand wash only” while the instructions on the piece of paper inside the mug say they can be cleaned in the top rack of a dishwasher.
Oh, and it’s impossible to get the spigot to line up at 90 degrees to the handle pivots, making the handle extra useless.
Taken together, I think it’s painfully obvious why they ended up at Meh.
I just got the tumblers and they look great, except one of them came dented. The box & wrapping is fine, but they sent me a dented one. Who do I contact about this?
I got these for work. Throw both of them in my backpack and I got plenty, I don’t have to stop anywhere on the road being a delivery driver. So far they have been working great! Good deal for two as well

BUBBA OR BUST
@steelopus Bubba ARE bust, in my experience. Damthings always say “hand wash only” and they aren’t kidding, where these stainless doublewall things just laugh it off. I gave away the Bubbas that I bought, they wuz WUTHLESS, I tell ya!
@steelopus @werehatrack Are you saying that you put cups in the dishwasher, or that you’re a REALLY aggressive hand washer?
@brennyn @steelopus I looked at the Bubba’s “hand wash only” thing, and decided that if they really weren’t dishwasher-safe, I didn’t need the sorry POS. this is a proper margarita growler.
@alacrity g&t is my plan

50oz is a lot. how do these stack up to the bubbas? tbh, I’m never left wanting with my 22ozer. 50 is pretty cumbersome (not to mention heavy)
@boygenius1991 I have a couple of 20 oz, several of the 32 oz size, and a couple of Reduce 40 oz. Overall, I use the 32 oz size most. You preferences may vary.
Will this fit a car cup holder?

@eyesee5769 Highly unlikely.But for a few bucks less,you can get an over priced “adapter” from Yeti or WeatherTech

Is this supposed to be the opposite pole? Does that matter?
It’s a McDLT?

I’d be doing everyone a disservice if I didn’t include the worst, most over-acted commercial known to humankind.
@stinks I remember those.
It was just as awful as the regular Quarter Pounder, except they tended to undercook the patties on that one. I have no idea why.
@stinks
Now i’m hungry! Maybe it’s NOT the worst commercial after all. Jus sayen.
@Lynnerizer @stinks Or maybe you’re just hungry!
@stinks We didn’t have broadcast television when I was growing up, so this is my first time seeing this commercial.
Is that George Costanza? It sounds kinda like him, and looks a bit like him, but that beautiful 80’s VHS quality recording makes it hard to be sure…
(Wikipedia agrees that Jason Alexander indeed played in commercials before his Seinfeld years, even citing McDonald’s McDLT specifically.)
@stinks @xobzoo
Oh, it does look and sound like him!
@stinks @xobzoo yes that IS George
@stinks @werehatrack nay, nay, nay! They were my favorite burger apart from a Quarter pounder with cheese that had been under the heat lamp for 8-10 minutes (yes, I realize those were diametrically opposed). But my goodness the amount of styrofoam in the packaging…
But how does it know if it should keep things “good and hot” or “good and cold”?
@caffeineguy There’s probably an app, everything has an app.
@caffeineguy And what if I want to keep BAD coffee hot?
@brennyn @caffeineguy And well you might, as evidence…
@caffeineguy Artificial Intelligence.

@Fzero Top-rack dishwasher safe = you can put it in the dishwasher, but only in the top rack
@brennyn But does that apply to just the lid, or is the container portion also top-rack safe?
@brennyn @xobzoo Yep, that’s what I was referring.
@Fzero Many things labelled as top-rack diseasher safe are temperature-sensitive, and will warp or shrink if they get too hot. I keep the “heat dry” misfeature turned off, and I find that a great many hand-wash-only items can be tossed in without problems

@Fzero the Yeti ramblers are fully dishwasher safe
@brennyn @Fzero the lids may but probably won’t melt if not on the top shelf but the tumblers are steel and fine on the bottom rack.
@brennyn @Fzero @mehsterious The tumblers have a plastic upper rim with the flip-up hook attached. There’s no guarantee that it’ll survive the heat-dry cycle unwarped.
These must be cool
Those are some pretty jugs. It’s good they have support. Not quiet sure how it hooks/unhooks though?
Also not sure I really need 50 oz . I mean sure it sounds fun. But that is a lot to get your hands around.
@unksol The size will be fine as long as they’re firm enough…
@shahnm like… Bags of sand?
Sooo close, and yet…
