This product is bad because it has only one USB-C port. How do you share the socket with others if your charger only has one port? You don’t. You don’t share it. You just charge your phone, while someone else waits for you.
Anker’s chargers are fine, even great, but I don’t think it’s much more expensive to get one with multiple USB ports. I think “4 ports” on a charger is the sweet spot, and “1 port” is a major waste of precious powerstrip real estate.
Be a hero and look out for others - splurge for that extra flexibillty and get a charger with more than one port.
@806D2701@PooltoyWolf exactly. Buy a $10 multiport charger before you solve for 45 watt capable devices.
I do wish we’d highlighted the GaN tech that’s in these — it is the biggest evolution in charging tech in a decade. So much smaller and cooler running than 45 Watt chargers of the past.
@806D2701 if it is sharing you’re after, traveling with one of these in your pack is handy. Not only allows multiple cube chargers, but old USB, and laptop 120 volt cord charging. And the power plug rotates for flexibility.
@806D2701@PooltoyWolf@snapster Umm. This is a two pack. If you really need 4 ports and 180 freaking Watts of charging power all in one place, you could buy 2x two packs and an el-cheapo 6-outlet tap multiplier. Plug the 4 chargers in and you’ll still have two outlets available. But then you’d be some USB-C charging monster.
@806D2701@PooltoyWolf@snapster These don’t have GaN. Only the 7nn series have it. The “Nano” series, which Meh links to as “similar” for price comparison on A****n. But they ain’t the same. If they had GaN, it would be in the specs.
edit — have already looked up model and lack of GaN. I think we had both and the similar-to link got me. We really should have disclaimed that or not linked. I’ll update CS for anyone who needs to cancel or return. Same function but old tech
@Joedetroit Disconnect your USB-C from it’s 4 watt charger. Unplug 4 watt charger. Plug in this 45 watt charger. Reattach your existing USB-C cable to this charger.
@pldmich ummm… yeah! That’s the ticket! Let me go buy one as I don’t have a 4 watt charger with a USB-C on it. The new 4 watt charger will likely come with a cable… with USB C!
I just bought two of the Samsung 25W chargers on Side Deal, haven’t even got here yet. I had one for my phone and needed a second for my tablet. It takes forever to charge the tablet, so I’m hoping these will speed up the process.
The Wattage rating certainly would have you believe so - but I am dubious. That said, my Chromebook i a bit aged (maybe 3 - 4 years) and it has a “specialty” PSU - not a typical USB/USB-C charger, so YMMV…
@TBoneZeOriginal my kids hp chromebook and dell laptop don’t charge from an older anker charger that doesn’t do usb c power delivery. these do not list that feature in the specs either. My Mac does tho.
@TBoneZeOriginal Assuming the Chromebooks accept USB-C for power, then the odds are good they will - though some laptop makers do silly things and make their laptops incompatible with anything but their branded chargers. You’d have to do a bit of research on that particular make and model to be sure.
@Pufferfishy Why the lolz? 45 watts is plenty of power for a phone or tablet, and many laptops would charge fine (albeit slowly) at 45 watts if they weren’t under heavy load at the time.
@Pufferfishy power in watts is calculated by multiplying voltage in volts times current in amps. So it’s a shortcut to market one max watts number while offering varying voltage/current modes. Here are the modes it offers:
It’s a discontinued model according to Best Buy and others. Unfortunately, hard numbers for its tech specs seem to be hard to find. They say it uses their PoweriQ 3.0 tech, but they don’t say much about what that does. More annoyingly, the cited spec promises “up to” 100W of power delivery, yet these are rated at less than half that maximum. Reviews generally say it works well, though. But I’m underwhelmed by the need to buy C-to-whatever cables to replace my existing stock of functional A-to-whatever cables, and I find the prospect of using adapters very unappetizing.
@ticklescratch
Sometimes giphy coughs up a hairball, and sometimes something even worse. That content isn’t generated within Meh, it’s pulled from Giphy; when that happens with something that a user posts, assuming the edit clock hasn’t run out, the solution is to click on the Edit button and then just save it; a different image will generally get fetched. But at present there’s no way to get @mediocrebot to do that for you on the /buy autoresponse.
@ticklescratch On the other hand, if the /giphy is terrible, quickly deleting the /buy comment will remove both it and the bot’s giphy response, but will not cancel the purchase. You can still easily find the transaction up there in “Account” in the top menu bar.
And another sellout before 9PM, without a VMP pause. Decent stuff at a decent price gets snapped up. Sometimes even just-barely-decent (but geekful or nerd-magnetic) stuff at an intriguing price will move, too.
Wasn’t expecting this to only have a C port. My phone also only has a C port. Maybe I’m dense, but I’d need to get a C/C cable to use with my phone, which I’ve never encountered before with a wa adapter.

If you need of them, buy them. I already did at a higher sale price from Anker direct. This is a great price for a great charger.
Excellent write-up. Extra points for the use of the term inscrutable.
@ybmuG Yes, I thought it was great too - but now I want the story to continue!
Quite a lot of good writing lately.

I have the Letscom 65W that I got here a while back. Great for charging my HP Spectre. I doubt 45W would do the job.
@tweezak That is the only real problem i see with this. 45W is really too low for a laptop charger. Probably why it is at Meh.
Winter is over. I no longer need a burning hot phone to keep warm.

you know what’s interesting is @troy found these are indeed GaN but not GaN II like the nano.

Seems like a nice charger. But I don’t have spare USB-C cables laying around. No cables with these?
@Joedetroit Disconnect your USB-C from it’s 4 watt charger. Unplug 4 watt charger. Plug in this 45 watt charger. Reattach your existing USB-C cable to this charger.
@Joedetroit @pldmich All my cables have the old USB 2-3 connectors on one end. I agree, I would have to buy a new cable for this.

Pee-Pee’s technology?
Anyone know if these would charge my kids’ Chromebooks from school?

@TBoneZeOriginal can confirm they charge my kids’ Surface laptops from school. Even low watt USB-C will trickle charge them though.
45 Watts. lolz.
@Pufferfishy Why the lolz? 45 watts is plenty of power for a phone or tablet, and many laptops would charge fine (albeit slowly) at 45 watts if they weren’t under heavy load at the time.
Because I seriously doubt these things are 45W.
This company slaps “45 Watts” onto everything they sell.
And I see nothing about the current it provides
@Pufferfishy power in watts is calculated by multiplying voltage in volts times current in amps. So it’s a shortcut to market one max watts number while offering varying voltage/current modes. Here are the modes it offers:
Output: 5.0V=3.0A 15.0W / 9.0V=3.0A 27.0W / 15.0V=3.0A 45.0W / 20.0V=2.25A 45.0W
