I’m not sure what POWERTHIRST+++ ADVANCED III AWESOMENESS buys you, but there is an Anker USB-C to lightning 6’ cable for $10 (after coupon) now at Amazon.
@stinks these powerthirst cables are much better built… 35k+ bend lifespan vs 12k for those. Slimmer and more flexible, with shiny metal connectors too.
Will go down in the annals (more like “anals”) as one of the most egregious examples of an unnecessarily proprietary product ever made. Kudos, Apple, you greedy bastards.
The USB consortium was bogged down in a quagmire and dragging its feet for many years. Apple developing Lightning finally forced substantive movement with USB 3 and USB-C. Apple haters can be so myopic sometimes.
@haydesigner Is that the excuse du jour that the “visionary” Apple cult members–er, enthusiasts–have settled on? Has Apple ever made an official statement on the matter? If that were their motivation, then why did they have to be forced into switching to what has become the accepted (and superior) standard for years? It certainly can’t have anything to do with bleeding every last nickel from customers who already pay way too much for their overpriced products in the first place. Or, are you saying that their greed had an unintended positive effect by creating competition? Either way, IMO, their way of doing business is slimy, at best.
@ircon96 Bruh. I’m not an apple user, but you’re way off base here with the lightning cable. Look it up. Apple needed a replacement for the dock connector and would have used USBC if it was ready. They were a member of the consortium developing USBC. But USBC was taking too long so apple was forced to go to market with lightning. And once they made their users switch to lightning they weren’t about to then immediately force their users to switch to USBC. Good news is that your problems will be solved in the next couple of years because the EU is forcing apple to switch to USBC.
@petefm815 That theory might hold water if Apple hadn’t already switched over many of its products to USB-C over the past several years, so if one has bought into the Apple ecosystem, it wouldn’t be a burden to have to switch, because you’ve likely already done so. The burden is on users who are surrounded by a world of USB & are inconvenienced by having to continue to use a proprietary connector for no logical reason. Apple could have gone with the USB standard in the first place if they were concerned about inconveniencing their users, since the lightning cable wasn’t really a major advancement in technology back then, merely one they could patent.
Apple has changed everything to USB-C accept for iPhone and that is coming soon anyway so hard pass because these will eventually be obsolete before I get a chance to use them
@katsuronishi Thank you, European Union, for saving their customers from the unmitigated greed of the Apple overlords while the FTC was apparently taking a nap.
@ircon96@katsuronishi@yakkoTDI The only way that Apple will be able to avoid going to USB-C on the iPhone is to eliminate the charging port altogether, and I don’t think they’re going to do that. The EU regulators have demanded that the charging port be USB-C on all new phones sold in Europe at some point in the very near future, so Apple will comply with that or they will give up the European market.
They have no choice EU regulators ruled apple must switch all new phones to USBC or not be allowed to sell them in the EU and they’re not going to give up such a huge market.
They’re already started making most of their new iPads and other itemsinto USB C already.
If this was true phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S22 wouldn’t exist as it has both USB C and Wireless charging in fact they’re been using that since the 16 I believe.
@yakkoTDI You misunderstand. Phones sold in the EU MUST HAVE USB-C in place of or in addition to any other charging method. Apple could have either added C or replaced Lightning with C. They are replacing, not adding. This has been confirmed, it is a fact.
The Iphone will not be going USB-C. That would slow down the Iphone going wireless.
The swap to USB-C has been covered. But the iPhone has had wireless charging for several versions now. And, of course, they patented an added frill for that in the form of MagSafe, just so that they could keep their devotees’ feelings of superiority fluffed.
You misunderstand. Phones sold in the EU MUST HAVE USB-C in place of or in addition to any other charging method.
I did not misunderstand. Below video is from someone with way more Apple knowledge than I ever expect to have and includes the actual wording of the law. About 2:20 into the video.
@tentalces1349 hope you enjoy all the endless ads you can’t block in games without rooting your phone while over here on Apple with a push if a button I never see a single ad unless I want too
@tentalces1349@ThyProphet I’ve never seen one ad while playing games on my Android… Mostly cuz i don’t play games on it. I’m too busy counting all the money i save by not buying games &/or Apple stuff.
@ircon96@tentalces1349@ThyProphet Not only that, but it’s a lot easier for serious phone users to do what they want to do on Android systems. The Apple OS is a lot more locked down.

Lightning? Is that some fancy new connector type?
Well those will be useful for all the stuff that still use lightning
Can’t tell if serious or not
If not lightning is what they call the charger for iPhones/iPads cause they’re suppose to be fast as lightning.
If not I win and fell for it
I don’t believe in being unequally yoked.
Meh. Android users can move along, nothing to see here.
@werehatrack yeah, pretty much

Weak.

Only on phones that have a charging port. No charging port means no need for USB-C.
Am I 100% sure they will go wireless charging? Nope. Would I be surprised if they did go wireless? Nope as well.
@ThyProphet @yakkoTDI Samsung Galaxy S9 had both C and wireless. That’s what’s in my hand right now.

What I really need is a PS/2 port to Apple 30-pin dock connector cable, maybe next time.
@awk Not the ADB port?
SCSI rules all.
@haydesigner “I’ll be back” - last thing attached to a SCSI chain, probably
@awk The best I can do.
@awk The second best I can do.
@awk @blaineg Me connecting my Nintendo Switch to my 1963 vacuum tube TV.
May have grabbed these if they were C to C cables!
@PooltoyWolf Sounds patriotic: C to shining C?
@PooltoyWolf check out Sidedeal then.
C-man!
@phendrick I almost put that in there.
@haydesigner @PooltoyWolf Thanks, I just did.

@blaineg @haydesigner Disappointed, that GIF could have been so much furrier!
I cannot believe these were even made.

@phendrick Just think how happy his family would be if he’d trademarked that “lightning” part.
meh, never touch the stuff

Don’t know I will ever figure out why USB-C stuff is so expensive. $10 per cable is a good deal?
@katbyter $10 is a pretty good deal for a high quality properly made USB cable of any variety, especially one with Apple compatibility!
@katbyter a quality usb c cable has active circuitry in it that talks to the hosts and helps negotiate capabilities and whatnots.
I wonder what Anker’s privacy policy is on these…
@mechno You mean?

@mediocrebot Fabulous hair!
@blaineg @mediocrebot And is that a bird on top?
Is that Thunderbolts and Lightning together on one cable?
@hchavers
@hchavers @ircon96
Did this Santa strangle anyone with a USB cable?
“Violent Night” is funny but crude, very very crude at times.
Over the years I can imagine many clueless folks using this to babysit the kids.
I’m so disappointed in you guys. You missed a solid opportunity to say “Christmas Mehricle”
@aciarlotta Mehracle that is. Can’t edit.
@aciarlotta Given the temps in Plano, there are probably a few Mehsicles around, too.
I just bought a new iPad that still uses Lightning, and it’s not time to upgrade my phone yet, so I’m in for one.
