@awk@thechinglish They can’t be audiophile-quality, the description of the Lightning end says nothing about gold plating, and they make no ludicrous claims about frequency response and waveform transmission accuracy, nor is there any absolutely fantasy-invention level pseudotechnobabble. Everything makes sense and is potentially verifiable without resorting to Dark Magic scrying.
@radi0j0hn my SO was a huge Apple person as a front end web dev and I simply didn’t care but did buy music on iTunes from having an iPod in 2007. Which I guess cinched it.
Long COVID which yes I’ll bring up often has given me a lot of difficulty remembering basic things so the watch pinging me for appointments I added using my PC on the calendar is incredibly useful for all the new specialists I have to see for some of the completely off the wall side problems it caused. Had too low oxygen for over a week.
I used a fucking netbook for grad school though. Through 2016. (English BA, tech comm/rhetoric MS - all I needed was a word processing doc or app and the internet).
@cinoclav I would like to think I do but my five year old absolutely fucking doesn’t. She got a hand me down iPad and knows which cables are for what and that C is preferable for faster charging. As well as a laptop provided for school because of all the COVID outbreaks so they don’t miss learning. Chargers are like silverware. She disappears them and idk how.
Also the cats play with loose cables. That IS my fault but also theirs.
@cinoclav@pmarin@sunshineparadox I keep finding cables gnawed despite my best efforts to block access and harden the targets. Cats can be determined and devious. Kittens quadruply so.
Aren’t these the same or am I missing something? I guess 5 dollars off.
Anker New Nylon USB-C to Lightning Cable, 331 Lightning Charging Cord (Black, 2Pack, 6ft), MFi Certified for iPhone 13 13 Pro 12 Pro Max 12 11 X XS XR 8 Plus, AirPods Pro, Supports Power Delivery https://a.co/1Qazcfu
@spiciernoodles Not the same. The ones here are from their higher end lineup. Will they do the same thing? Yes. Will they last as long? Yes, if you take care of them. Both are high speed compatible.
I’m betting these will be the best quality and the last Lightning cables you will need. That’s the problem — if I scrounge through my stuff I know I have enough Lightning cables for home, car, RV. I don’t expect a need for these for that much longer.
The newer iPad pro and mini are already USB-C. Phone hasn’t changed yet but not sure what this year’s iPhone will use. And current phone and AirPods can use wireless charging. Laptop and a few other things I have are ‘already’ USB-C. (Is it fair to say Already if USB-C been out for 5+years?)
Offer a similar deal on high-quality USB-C to -C cables and I’ll be in.
@pmarin Given that Apple is being dragged screaming and thrashing like a two-year-old to the C standard (by EU mandate), yeah, “already” is a valid qualifier. I have little doubt that in one of two more iterations, they’d have introduced Yet Another Proprietary Plug for their flagship devices had they not been told to get with the program and standardize that item.
@pmarin@werehatrack My bet is on Lightning this year, USB-C next year. The EU won’t be happy, but Apple’s hardware designs work two years ahead. My iPad is already USB-C. I can’t wait to only need one kind of cable.
@pmarin@werehatrack That kind of ridiculous propietary bullshit is why i refuse to buy anything from Apple. And I used to love them back in the day, when i first learned how to use a computer on a Macintosh Classic in the late 80s, then they had to go & ruin it.

Holy shit $14.50 per for a lightning cable that’ll be obsolete in the next couple of upgrade cycles?
@thechinglish They’re $35 dollars on Amazon! These must be audiophile-quality!
@awk @thechinglish Only thing that would seal the deal is if these were Monster™ brand cables at this low, low price.
@awk @thechinglish They can’t be audiophile-quality, the description of the Lightning end says nothing about gold plating, and they make no ludicrous claims about frequency response and waveform transmission accuracy, nor is there any absolutely fantasy-invention level pseudotechnobabble. @awk @thechinglish @werehatrack For Monster quackerylevel, needs Oxygen-free copper and silvery tips plated in gold pressed Latinum.
OH MY GOD THEY SENT GLEN TO A HOLLYWOOD PLASTIC SURGEON!!!
From C to shining lightning just doesn’t have the same ring to it.
I was all excited thinking it was a C-C cables, but nope.
@alose Look over at Sidedeal, the C-C cables are there. Also, it appears these lightning cables are too (as a bonus deal) but for $4 less?
@alose same
I’ve got use for lightning only when my DeLorean needs to be juiced.
@alose @steeltoesenator Got a link for that at SD? They didn’t come up in my search but plenty of cables with lightning did.
@alose @steeltoesenator I think the bonus deal is for the usb-a to lightning
@alose @gustador You are correct, my mistake.
Super Meh
We have an Apple-free house.
@radi0j0hn Must have good insurance to pay for all those doctor visits.
@radi0j0hn An apple a day will keep anyone away, provided you throw it hard enough.

@radi0j0hn Apple free is the only way to go.
@radi0j0hn “I don’t own anything Apple” is the nerd version of telling people you do Crossfit.
@DonWhiteside @radi0j0hn I would proudly say I have nothing Apple, except I inherited an iPad…
Instructions unclear, flew kite using cable during a storm.
Ew. Apple stuff.
Who knew lightning could be so eCstatic?
Ok, who ordered the bad pun?
/giphy bad pun
Oh that is an awesome line!
POPSOCKETS! SPROCKETS! DAVY CROCKETT! AWESOME!
@hammi99 I agree; the whole write-up was great. But once again we’re left hanging not getting the end of the plot.
So, for external use only?
Asking for a friend.
Very good cables but not really worth the price, especially if you’re the kind of person that takes care of their stuff.

this is the worst deal in the history of Meh deals, maybe ever
@Telanis I got a free page of detective story and I’m satisfied with the transaction.
Yo, old wooter here (first time/long time). I have always really appreciated the writeups, today’s was particularly great
@mojay Agreed. I sure hope Davy and his cousin and mom make it out of this pickle!
…guess it’s time to put this Lightning back in the bottle.
