@ruouttaurmind Yeah. Same here. I tried out one of them and they are a nice gimmick. For me they are lacking one essential quality of any light bulb: light. They are just not bright enough for practical use. They are dimmable: From dim to very dim
@PlacidPenguin Ya, they’re in my enormous pile of “Stuff for the yard sale I swear I’m going to have. Some day.” Which consists mostly of Meh merchandise, various bits from Woot! BOC from days gone by, and a buttload of casino “complementary gift especially for you” cookware kitchen appliances and party service sets.
@charlie_tca See, therein lies the rub. Although technically they are bulbs that emit light, as @einrad notes, they’re not really bright enough for usable light. More suitable for mood lighting, and I seldom find myself in said mood.
I admit… the sound from the speaker is unexpectedly full and rich though.
@PlacidPenguin No doubt it’s useful to someone, but there’s only so many rice steamers, cake pop makers and John Wayne cast iron cookware a guy can use, ya know? Every bit of it “new in box”. There are a few gems in there though. Like a Dyson bladeless fan, a Coach ladies wallet, a Kenneth Cole leather purse, even an iPod Touch. But the bulk of it is toasters, cheap Chinese wristwatches, porcelain chip and dip sets, Pyrex in every imaginable shape and purpose… just piles of “stuff”.
Bought last 2 times, they are actually decent for around $7.50 each! Put them in a place where you always have a light on and the look of it doesn’t matter, and you automatically get a Bluetooth speaker ready when you need it. I use one in my garage, in my basement, and in my dining room. Nice to have a speaker there that needs no charging or fiddling with cords.
@Stallion Yep. Agree. The app is a little squirrely but functional. One thing I’ve noticed is that the music-playing part of their app doesn’t let you select playlists. So unless you want to listen to every single song on your phone you’re better off using another music-playing app.
The mood lighting is great though.
Reddish orange + Barry White: 60% of the time it works every time.
@BleugrassBoy Honestly, for me, I just fire up bluetooth and pair it that way. It works great from both my android phone and iPad. I never use the app. The app’s only “real” use to me, is to change the color of the light, and quite honestly, I just leave it white.
@ILikeMeh Sengled makes them. They are for recessed lighting only though. You buy a master and then add on slave units. Connect to the master and the slaves play whatever the master does. They were expensive the last time I looked.
@mellowirishgent oh, I know, I am a huge fan of plenty of bulbs capable of specs in that range but they sure as heck are not full RGB color changing bulbs or are that size while hiding speakers and Bluetooth radios while being full RGB and containing the equivalent of 75+ incandescent worth of output
In for a pair. For $15 I’ll hook them up in my housemate’s room, pair an arduino, and have it play background hellspeak from Doom at 3 AM for exactly 17 seconds
Bought these last time. I love them. I don’t have a fancy smart system, so these work great to play some music. One in my kids room for a dim light and speaker. Impromptu dance parties with the light flashing. Yes, there are better speakers, but this is cheap.
@Kerig3 yeah, what they said on the sound. Confession time, I bought them because i have a wall mounted hippo head that needed a light bulb that didn’t need a lampshade. This is great for that. But what do i know? I have a hippo head lamp on my wall.
Like others, I bought this last time. You can sync the speaker with a computer Bluetooth, but for the other functions, you need a smartphone or tablet.
The App crashed when I tried to control the light from my phone, but it worked with my tablet.
For someone on a budget who is never w/o their smartphone and thinks bass is really overrated, this could be a good deal, otherwise MEH!
One more thing: I contacted the company and asked for their control API so that I could write my own computer Bluetooth controller, but I never heard back from them.
@aronwp it plays any audio I play on my phone. I don’t have spotify, but it works with iheartradio, YouTube, chrome and the built in player on my phone.
Any idea if these work outside? I could see screwing them into the patio lights or on either side of the garage. Never need to put up holiday lights again. And as a bonus, I could play creepy Halloween sounds through them. Or drive the neighbors insane with “I Wanna Hippopotamus for Christmas” on a 24 hr loop for weeks!
@Hskrjer99 when you unpair or turn it off, the color goes back to white.
If it’s in a covered fixture… It might do ok for a little bit, but I have a feeling moisture and bugs would get into it and ruin it. The holes are where the speaker is. There isn’t any grille covering it.
@Hskrjer99 I bought six last time, and I’m buying six more, again…for exactly this reason. I had five running at one time, all cycling at different times through all the colors. I’m not sure what the significance is about “unpair or turn off and the color goes back to white”. If your phone is always on, and you have the app running, they all keep running at the last setting you programmed.
The only significant issue with multiples is that they all don’t play music through one app/phone.
I’ve only had them for a short time, so can’t speak to the longevity of quality, but I like 'em.
As for their brightness, the light is restricted by the speaker portion…it’s actually a very nice, subtle light. Sufficient for reading in direct light…just not great for lighting up a room…unless you’re lighting for a party.
So… I tried looking at the app on my phone. Crashes on Nexus 5X running 7.1.2.
It seems to be a 3rd party app anyways.
Meanwhile, if I really wanted lightbulbs which I could connect to my phone (and if possible, my watch), I would shell out a bit more money for more attractive lights. (Gasp I think I know what I’m getting myself for my birthday.)
( lucky-longing-Saturn ) I now have 4 of these things… My 6 year old daughter thinks there really cool. I was reading the comments on our site last week and somebody had to go mention the 400.00 cross bow on woot. ( thanks’ a whole lot. ) What the hell am I going to do with a badass cross bow??? ( probably going to get in trouble with it ) Hell, always wanted one so Thursday or Friday I guess I’ll have one…
If my house wasn’t in the process of having every light upgraded to a Wink hub compatible bulb, I’d go for these just for some accent lighting, but damn if I’m spoiled by lights that I can control through the Echo.
If Meh ever gets some RGBW Lightify bulbs though, I’m so screwed.
I got a pair of these last time. One is the perfect “next to the computers” bulb for either mood lighting or hitting the center button to find that bit of shatter that dropped behind the keyboard. It’s ok next to other huge lights sources (like, say…monitors) but it’s not even bright enough for a closet light. That said, at $7.50 a bulb, they are decent enough.
It’s in a home studio so I have not even tried the speaker though I suspect it’s like other mediocre BT speakers. (See what I did there?)
Now I cannot imagine the outright self-loathing that would come from having actually paid $200 for one of these from Amazon. Only ONCE in my life did I feel virtual donkey’s ears grow on my head, when I bought a “video camera” out of the back of a car on 18th street in Manhattan, and it ended up being a shrinkwrapped brick, (it was the early 80s, I was younger and stupid) but I digress!
Imagine for a moment what a huge horse’s ass is out there cause I bet SOMEONE bought one of these suckers for $200, and is still deeply facepalmed.
@droopus I can get 60W name brand LED bulbs that actually throw enough light to be useful for $1/each at Home Depot on sale. So as a bulb, these things–which don’t throw enough light to be useful even as a closet lamp–are NOT “decent enough”. They are only useful as a combination of a night light and a bluetooth speaker. As a bluetooth speaker, they’re about a 3/10. Not utterly hideous. But not even as good as things like the Logitech X50/X100 speakers that can had for about $10 on clearance.
In the end, I could see one of these being appealing to a 6 year old. But as something for adults…El Paso.
@KwadGuy Agreed. In fact, if I didn’t need an occasional small light next to my computers, I have no idea where I’d put the thing.
My whole house is LEDs - been availing myself of good Costco deals for a few years. I’m partial to the less blue LEDs that actually just look like bright incandescent. Pretty sure the only non-LED lighting anymore is the garage fluorescents.
That said, at worst, the bulb goes into the geek graveyard. But at least I don’t feel as bad as the chump who paid $199.
I put one in the recessed light socket above our amazon Echo, works great.
I thought it might be fun to have one upstairs for it as well, realizing you can only connect one at a time - but apparently having two things called “SunBeats” in the list is too confusing, even if only one is turned on at a time.
momentary-mental-lamb
Going to put one in my kids’ bathroom and one in my son’s room for when he needs a night light and I need God to talk to him about his naughty behavior in the middle of the night.
We bought this last time, and I ordered one more set. We have them in the bathroom (listen to my phone/iPad while showering). The other is in my wife’s reading room. She’ll put music on it. The two new ones, one will go in my daughter’s bathroom for the same reason. The other one will probably go in the loft area.
The white light is good enough, but the color, as others have said, is kind of dim. The speakers are pleasantly LOUD and sound good.
I do wish you could play through more than 1 at a time.
Bought these for my kids for christmas. The app won’t work on one kids iPad 2, it won’t work on the other’s iPhone 4s. I try it on my android phone and it kinda works, but if I want to help my other kid with her’s then I have to uninstall the app to be able to manage a different light bulb. I had my expectations low and honestly it is far worse still. I’m really bummed about this purchase.
What a bright idea! The light of my life! The light of the world! I see the light! Be the Light! See the light in others! He turns my darkness in to Light! We now live in one of our darkest moments that we must now focus to see the light! Embrace light! illuminate the world with the this light! Be the light of the world! This bulb was born to light up the world! You have a light?! That’s a light joke!
I’ve considered buying these the last couple of times to put in our lamps on our bed stands. For $15 for 2, I’ll go for it this time. I like the different colors and that they’re dimmable. May use the speaker feature from time to time, too.
I bought this last time, and coupled it with a bluetooth receiver. I transmit my sound from my TV to the two speaker light bulbs. I like it. The only thing is for some reason there’s a loud buzzing sound, but it might just be a function of the transmitter. I am pleased with my purchase.
Funny, people love them or hate them. I really love mine. I am not much for the colors or the color cycling but the BT speaker rocks.
On the lumen thing…I have really low expectations due to the whole CF era. No way in hell would I ever buy those crappy counter-environmental mercury tubes. I waited for LED to become mainstream but still think the lumen thing in LED lighting in general is bunk. Don’t go by the “65 watt equivalent” because they probably aren’t talking about light, more likely a measure of energy or something. For whatever reason my bulb seems bright enough.

MEH!
I bought these last time, I still can’t figure out what to do with them.
@ruouttaurmind
Sell them?
@ruouttaurmind Screw them in. They are still light bulbs, aren’t they?
@ruouttaurmind Yeah. Same here. I tried out one of them and they are a nice gimmick. For me they are lacking one essential quality of any light bulb: light. They are just not bright enough for practical use. They are dimmable: From dim to very dim
@ruouttaurmind I combined this with a Christmas present to make a party trooper.
Literally minutes of fun!@slivoran Ok, you win. That is absolutely awesome.

I admit… the sound from the speaker is unexpectedly full and rich though.
@ruouttaurmind
Shame you don’t live in driving distance. I could so see you having useful stuff.
@ruouttaurmind
Which Dyson fan?
@PlacidPenguin The AM06.
@einrad
Yeah, they would best be utilized in a bedside lamp, which can be used to play some bedtime tunes.
Speaking of meh
Woohoo!!! Bluetooth!!!
#BluetoothEverything
@PlacidPenguin BOOOO!
(Blame @ELUNO.)
@narfcake
Why?I actually like these, just never have gotten around to actually buying them.
@narfcake Boooooo-tooth?
I’m starting to wonder just how many of these things Meh fished out of the dumpster.

Why? Why do these things exist? As soon as I saw them, the question came to mind, then I see one of the first posts validates my question!
@UncleMel
#BluetoothEverything
You light up my life!!! You give me hope to carry a bluetooth speaker light thingie with an app! It lights up my day!
If I could pair an array of bulbs together I definitely would be in on this, but alas…
@PenguinOnTheRox why are there none you can at least pair up 2 and get stereo? A house full would be nice also.
@ILikeMeh Sengled makes them. They are for recessed lighting only though. You buy a master and then add on slave units. Connect to the master and the slaves play whatever the master does. They were expensive the last time I looked.
Another device that gives off heat?!
Not a fan so “Meh”.
Bought these on here on Nov. 15th same deal …Gave as gifts , no complaints …
I came for an exciting 2 for Tuesday deal and all I got was a Bowling Green Massacre.
Meh. Sad!
Any cheaper ways to turn off the bedroom light without getting up?
@dugi_f The Clapper
@dugi_f Sure, that’s what having kids around is for!
@Kerig3 he said cheap!
@kaoticgirl Yeah, I hear 'ya…
@dugi_f A slingshot.
How many am I buying?
ZERO
@f00l I will order 3 times as many as you!
@thismyusername using the addition or multiplication rule?
Idea for next 2-for-Tuesday…a pair of shoes…but you can only wear one shoe at a time.
Stahp it with these.
@jseay65
But if they don’t sell them, then someone will be in trouble for having bought these by the ton.
(I wonder which Mediocre bought them. I wanna thank them.)
waiting for something with a Blu’ertooth
@rrpprr
I personally would want proof that the chimp that measured the light output wasn’t aiming at the sun
10 watts full color changing and 1300 lumens?!?
Maybe that’s 1300 lumens uv … We can’t disprove that I suppose.
@jemullins I have 8 Watt led bulbs that are brighter then 60 watt incandescent
@mellowirishgent oh, I know, I am a huge fan of plenty of bulbs capable of specs in that range but they sure as heck are not full RGB color changing bulbs or are that size while hiding speakers and Bluetooth radios while being full RGB and containing the equivalent of 75+ incandescent worth of output
All for the low low price of 7.50
In for a pair. For $15 I’ll hook them up in my housemate’s room, pair an arduino, and have it play background hellspeak from Doom at 3 AM for exactly 17 seconds
@revoked
You should get a freebie for that amazing idea!
Nope.
I’m still waiting for meh to sell bluetoothpicks.
Bought these last time. I love them. I don’t have a fancy smart system, so these work great to play some music. One in my kids room for a dim light and speaker. Impromptu dance parties with the light flashing. Yes, there are better speakers, but this is cheap.
@Tracy4000 How’s the sound output?
@Kerig3 it’s ok. Not the best I’ve heard. It’ll do for listening to music in the shower.
@Kerig3
Better than a smartphone or cheap laptop, not as good as most headphones or external speakers.
@Kerig3 yeah, what they said on the sound. Confession time, I bought them because i have a wall mounted hippo head that needed a light bulb that didn’t need a lampshade. This is great for that. But what do i know? I have a hippo head lamp on my wall.
@Tracy4000 I cannot think of a better use for this item than with a wall-mounted hippo-head lamp. You win the internet for a day.
@Tracy4000 Add it to ruouttaurmind’s garage sale.
@Tracy4000 based on your comment I bought them for my kids’ bathroom. They were thrilled. Now I wear headphones to block the shower cacaphony.
Meh- Bluetooth conglomerate. Ive been saying this for a while. Not sure if they can go a week without a friggin bluetooth SOMETHING!
@Bayamonprieto77
#BluetoothEverything
And anyways, looking Mehstalker, I see that this year there haven’t even been that many Bluetooth equipped items.
@Bayamonprieto77 Its a Bluetooth world , your just a humble visitor
@mellowirishgent Did you actually type this reply, or did you use a bluetooth microphone to dictate?
Like others, I bought this last time. You can sync the speaker with a computer Bluetooth, but for the other functions, you need a smartphone or tablet.
The App crashed when I tried to control the light from my phone, but it worked with my tablet.
For someone on a budget who is never w/o their smartphone and thinks bass is really overrated, this could be a good deal, otherwise MEH!
One more thing: I contacted the company and asked for their control API so that I could write my own computer Bluetooth controller, but I never heard back from them.
@Freedom1958
cowards
Can you pair them with your phone like a regular speaker?
@pyip001 Yup. You can stream music from your phone straight to the light bulb. And you can have your instant private disco.
@pyip001 For the disco effect, to select colors, or to dim it via bluetooth you need the app though.
Would they play Spotify or does it only play music through the app?
@aronwp it plays any audio I play on my phone. I don’t have spotify, but it works with iheartradio, YouTube, chrome and the built in player on my phone.
@RiotDemon thanks. In for 2 for the kids.
@Hskrjer99
Why wouldn’t they work outside though? They can go in any lightbulb socket (assuming that the socket isn’t irregular).
Until they get wet and burst into flames.
@PlacidPenguin Throw a bulb in one of these from IKEA, and it doesn’t matter what it looks like. IKEA Fado
@PlacidPenguin Now you understand why Meh’s picture has an iOS screen shot on a Samsung (Android) phone.
@aarond12 @kylethephotoguy
No wonder the picture bothered me.
Especially when it came to the notification bar.

Super buy if you’re a modern-day Stanley Kowalski.
/giphy Stanley Kowalski
These are the worst things you sell on here.
I put one in the recessed light socket above our amazon Echo, works great.
I thought it might be fun to have one upstairs for it as well, realizing you can only connect one at a time - but apparently having two things called “SunBeats” in the list is too confusing, even if only one is turned on at a time.

Going to put one in my kids’ bathroom and one in my son’s room for when he needs a night light and I need God to talk to him about his naughty behavior in the middle of the night.
@wickhameh love that visual! Thanks
I do wish you could play through more than 1 at a time.
this would be good for the pcmasterrace game room, setting some mood lighting. another one in the workout room, blood red with some pantera going
Bought these for my kids for christmas. The app won’t work on one kids iPad 2, it won’t work on the other’s iPhone 4s. @jjr2527
You don’t have to uninstall/reinstall the app. You could just clear the data from the app through phone settings.
@jjr2527 Did you use the app in the details of the post or the one that is suggested in the manual?
I have bought a total of 4 - My kids love them and use them quite often.
What a bright idea! The light of my life! The light of the world! I see the light! Be the Light! See the light in others! He turns my darkness in to Light! I like this light one Meh!
From the sublime (yesterday’s blender), to the ridiculous (today’s light-bulb speakers). What will tomorrow bring?
@werekong
Probably something lacking Bluetooth.
I’ve considered buying these the last couple of times to put in our lamps on our bed stands. For $15 for 2, I’ll go for it this time. I like the different colors and that they’re dimmable. May use the speaker feature from time to time, too.
/giphy permissible-secret-blood
Bought them last time; gave them away as they as not compatible with any home automation systems (Hue, Alexa, Google Home, Apple, etc.)
They work but every time you invoke the app on your phone, you have to reconnect the Bluetooth. Meh.
I wonder since its sold out, if we’ll ever see it again. Maybe it’ll make room for something new.
@RiotDemon
If I were you, I’d stay away from Meh on March 7th and May 4th.
@PlacidPenguin what’s special about those days?
@RiotDemon
There’s an 0.008375% chance of these lightbulbs showing up again then.
How does he know?
@michaelgj2002
I don’t.

Don’t go by the “65 watt equivalent” because they probably aren’t talking about light, more likely a measure of energy or something. For whatever reason my bulb seems bright enough.
Oh, and bonus, they are NOT WiFi.
Received mine the other day and they’re pretty cool bulbs. However, one arrived with a broken speaker. Emailed meh to see if I can get a replacement.
