@phendrick Or clamp down on duplicate sales. If I didn’t buy them in March, why would I buy them today? I only wish for more unique items so it makes my VMP worth it with more variety.
@awk This Alien/pliers hybrid supports my belief Aliens are the scariest thing out there. They can gestate in metal, people! Be afraid. Yes, very afraid.
A central telescopic screw extends and is held secure with the blades allowing the root to be tapped. Sadly all before the advent of the anaesthetic.
These unusual American forceps contain a extendable screw that was held in place by the blades to ease in burrowing into the tooth’s root during extraction. (via Dental Assistant Schools)
@lichme It’s not so much ‘in the dark’ as ‘in dark areas’ where these are useful. Under sinks, digging down into car engines, etc. There honestly is something to be said for the value of them.
I have them from last time. Haven’t used them yet, but the light did already fall out of one of the pairs already (though it’d be easy enough to glue it back in)
@narfcake That is extraordinary. Is there any possibility that you spend, um, a little more time than absolutely necessary watching videos on the Internet? Although I have greatly appreciated your contributions to my cat videos for school. (I only need to find three more to finish up this year.)
My x’s daughter came home from a weekend at her dad’s with prolly 50 of those freakin’ things. Within a couple days, at least 48 of them took up strategic locations throughout the house. Stealthily hidden within the deepest fibers of the carpet, they waited patiently for innocent unshod feet to come into range before unleashing their own particular brand of excruciating torture.
If only these were 2-for-Tuesday crow bars with lights in them, I’d be in for a set. Maybe even hammers with lights. Definitely not pliers with lights, that’s just stupid.
As for the orange flip-flops, it is an item that can be used for the “punishment game” in Japan. This typically follows some other game or wager in which someone loses and is expected to do something either painful, embarrassing, or something else rather unpleasant that is usually decided beforehand.
@u041 My thought was why question 1 wasn’t “why is this a costume” since he said he found it in the costume aisle- but now you’ve answered all of them.
Got them last time, quality was in the neighborhood of cheap Harbor Freight for one and lower on the other (It was actually slightly bent when I got it). With that said the lights work and are worth it for the occasional use under a cabinet or in my case getting the over tightened washing machine supply line off earlier this month in the dark hole behind the washer. Totally worth the money to not be fumbling with a light at the same time for that one.
These suck. Have a similar ratchet with a light. It’s not really bright enough to help, and the cap on the battery is so flimsy it will twist off during use.
@mike808 But do you have THESE? Other than receiving one bent last time (which they promptly replaced once I called), mine are surprisingly good quality. The light is plenty bright enough to see what you’re working on.
Got two pair last time and maybe I was unlucky but the “channels” on one pair are so badly formed and loose that they skip to a different size when I try to use them. The lights work though.
Purchased two sets last time and was actually impressed with the quality and functionality. They are better than Harbor Freight or Craftsman. Definitely a good deal and worthwhile gift for tool user. Considering repurchasing, but not sure I can justify it.
Bought last time, would not buy again! Grooves in pliers for adjusting size do not line up well and are hard to close, especially on the ends.
The triangular notches on middle of pliers make them slip and give no grip on pipes or circular objects.
The two parts of the pliers are held together by a permanent connector instead of nut and bolts like most, so there is no way to adjust closeness between the two sides.
Plus they are bulky because of the light.
The cat thing in the video is a coin stealing bank. Interestingly, I was googling the term to make sure that’s what the rest of the world called them as well and the very first link that comes up for ‘Coin stealing bank’ is, in fact, this exact bank. https://www.amazon.com/Qiyun-Stealing-Coin-Piggy-Bank/dp/B00303KHSY
These are cheaply made; they can’t be tightened without an anvil and hammer. Good for cracking crabs, that’s about it. I bought a few last time for “gag” gifts.
Bought last time. They were thrown in the box with no attempt to pad. They had tried to beat their way out of the box. One had come out of its retail hanging tag. Light didn’t work on that one. Contacted meh customer service, they said contact someone who cares. Decided I didn’t care that much. Still pretty good pliers.
I really wanted a set of pliers that didn’t line up were non-adjustable and that just didn’t work that well. Now with a light, I can see them working sub-par in all conditions. Perfect! Thx Meh
To call them anything other than crap is boasting. If you were ever to have these with a BT radio so I could find where I left my CHANNELLOCK the last time I used them, that would be more helpful. They always seem to run off with my nuts?
Hahahahahahahahhahaahaaa! With a light! Channel Locks. With a light. Hahahahahahahahahahahah, AAAAAhhhAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHhahhaaaaaa, ahhhhhhahaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Bought a pair last time around, they’re not amazing but I haven’t had the issues others are talking about here. Have actually used them surprisingly often, the light is pretty handy.
I bought a pair last time they were on sale. They are sturdy tools. The light is a handy add on. I will be doing some plumbing work under the old kitchen cabinets this weekend, and look forward to using the lights.
I’m an auto mechanic, and have a pretty extensive collection of expensive tools. I bought some of these last time, and was pretty impressed with them. Other than the cheesy light they are pretty decent quality tools, and much less pricey than Snap-on:

It was only $13 for two the last time it sold on 3/6/2017. Inflation of $1 in less than 3 months.
@cengland0 You’d think they could use these to clamp down on that inflation, right?
Maybe they’re testing the concept of “consumer’s surplus”, but in reverse?
@phendrick Or clamp down on duplicate sales. If I didn’t buy them in March, why would I buy them today? I only wish for more unique items so it makes my VMP worth it with more variety.
@cengland0 Sure they cost more this time, but maybe they work! The lights didn’t work on either of mine last time.
Bright tool
Those are the angriest looking pliers I’ve ever seen. Not letting those in my house. No, siree.
@lordbowen How about this guy?
@awk WTF? Where did you even find that pic? Medieval Torture Devices R’Us dot com? Yikes.
@awk This Alien/pliers hybrid supports my belief Aliens are the scariest thing out there. They can gestate in metal, people! Be afraid. Yes, very afraid.
@ruouttaurmind Obviously, it’s for catheter insertion. Duh.
@mike808 close! They’re actually for extraction instead of insertion and they’re meant for teeth.
Civil War Dental Screw Forceps
@lordbowen Steve Martin used these in one of best ever movie scenes…[Dentist][1]
If I had a dollar for every time I was using pliers in the dark, and wished I had a pair of them with a built in LED, I’d have exactly $0 dollars.
@lichme However, these are an improvement over the prototype, which held a built-in candle.
@lichme It’s not so much ‘in the dark’ as ‘in dark areas’ where these are useful. Under sinks, digging down into car engines, etc. There honestly is something to be said for the value of them.
Gudetama is the greatest thing in the world!
I have them from last time. Haven’t used them yet, but the light did already fall out of one of the pairs already (though it’d be easy enough to glue it back in)
Nice job on the Little Mermaid reference
Got a set last time, pretty sturdy, and worth the price…never used the light, and keep forgetting it is there.
In for another set.

So perhaps you put those pegs in the flip flops, and jump around to simulate barefoot stepping on legos? They’ll make a game of anything!
@KDemo The only thing worse than Legos hiding in the carpet…

@narfcake - Is that Fear Factor? Too painful to watch.
@narfcake That’s an oddly specific gif for you to think of. I assume you’ve seen this before?
@KDemo No idea. All I know is that this @kevlar51 design sums it up. Painfully.

@ruouttaurmind - Jeeez. Call in the feral jacks abatement team!
@sligett Not the slightest. I don’t even play all the cat videos Cortana suggests to me from time to time.

ETA: I see /giphy is fucked up even more than usual.
@narfcake Apparently @giphy had a 3 day weekend and isn’t quite up to the usual crappy response, and is now going for extra crappy.

@gyozilla Softer and more absorbent than 1-ply.

@RiotDemon Nah it wasn’t worth the trouble
Just what I need to get a grip on myself (in the dark!).
@daveinwarsh I don’t want to think about that in too much detail.
Purchased two sets last time and was actually impressed with the quality and functionality. They are better than Harbor Freight or Craftsman. Definitely a good deal and worthwhile gift for tool user. Considering repurchasing, but not sure I can justify it.
Purchased two sets on meh the first time around, two more sets on MorningSave. Great sox stuffers for people with big sox! All were good quality
Man, they’re putting LEDs everywhere? How long before we see LEDs in hammers?
@jqubed Dammit! Don’t give them any more

For the cars, one each, for those late night repairs by the side of the road that just need a wrench. First you warsh it then you wrench it!
If you cannot use your senses to effectively use a set of pliers then you should not be using them anyway. Lights are for the weak.
