@cengland0@walarney If you look closely at the first picture, it looks like there’s 2 fast charge and 2 normal charge ports. The other pictures don’t show this. I wonder what gives?
@cengland0@gatwood@walarney A review at Best Buy said 2x2, 2x1. I’m guessing that the 4x4.8 is a lie. But I shouldn’t be surprised about that from a company that claims their $$$$ cables are better than a $ cable at transferring ones and zeroes.
@cengland0@narfcake I’d count on it being 4.8A Max. We tested it with two USB-C phones and didn’t find a reduction in power between ports - charged at the same rate as
@RedOx there’s absolutely no way that it is 5V/4.8A per port. That would be 24W per port = 96W total. No one has ever offered anything above 5V/3A (which is uncommon). Most offer 5V/2.1A or 5V/2.4A (12W).
Notice how 2 ports are labeled with .
Also, 2 ports are label with just 1 .
My edumacated guess is:
2x ports = 5V/2.4A each (max)
2x ports = 5V/1A each (max)
Theoretically speaking, if you were to plug in just the 2 , you would get 5V/2.4A each = 4.8A total.
However, since you know that the single ports are limited to 5V/1A, if you were to fill all 4 ports, you would get something like 5V/1.4-1.6A when plugged into the ports, and 5V/0.8-1A when plugged into the ports.
This is how you can ‘ensure’ that devices plugged into the ports get a slight priority if all ports are plugged in, whereas you can assume that single ports will offer more of a trickle charge.
@RedOx While I agree that there’s very little chance that this is a fast charge on all ports, it is a stand - most likely to charge at night on a nightstand (even has a night light!).
I prefer to have slower charges at night anyway, since I believe a slower charge would be easier on the battery.
I prefer to have slower charges at night anyway, since I believe a slower charge would be easier on the battery.
Not just your belief that’s a fact! Fast charging creates heat, heat kills batteries. And you are only supposed to charge up to like 85% and never drop below 15%.
Why does the first picture have what appears to be 4 ports, with two labeled as what I think is fast charge, 2 with normal charge, but the other pictures don’t have the same labels?
@RedOx There’s a YouTube video with the model the “medium size” station that includes outlets as well. It looks like the us outlets are labeled on that one.
I highly doubt 4.8A per port is accurate. Standard USB is 5V 0.5A with Apple and other companies going up to 2.4A with proprietary protocols using the data pins.
Anything above that is QuickCharge from Qualcomm or USB Power Delivery from USBIF and this charger doesn’t indicate it supports those standards. If it actually delivers 4.8A without implementing QC or PD, there’s a good chance it could destroy your cheap USB devices that don’t have proper overcurrent protection.
@bruhaha I’m betting it’s 4.8A total between the two ports with the double lightning bolt symbols on them, and then some lower total on the single lightning bolt ports.
I thought these might be nice for my workbench at work where I lean my phone up against an object to watch videos…but looking at the pics you can see the bottom of the phone screen is obscured by the lip on the stand…
@fastharry get one of these cases. They are relatively thin cases and the kick stand works well. I use mine all the time.

Here’s the way it works. Trust me.
Plug in high power port 1 - 2.4A
Plug in high power port 1 and 2. 2.4A each
Plug in high power port 1 and 2 plus low power plug 3 - 2.4A in port 1, 1.2A in port 2 and port 3
Plug in ports 1-2-3-4 and get 1.2A each
As you can see, we’ve had our eye on you for some time now, meh. It seems that you’ve been living two lives. In one life, you’re Matt Rutledge, program writer for a respectable software company. You have a Social Security number, you pay your taxes, and… you help your buyer carry out the garbage. The other life is lived in warehouses, where you go by the hacker alias woot, and are guilty of virtually every deal-a-day crime we have a law for. One of these lives has a future, and one of them does not. I’m going to be as forthcoming as I can be, Mr. Rutledge. You’re here because we need your help. We know that you’ve been contacted by a certain corporation: A man who calls himself Jeff Bezos. Now, whatever you think you know about this man is irrelevant. He is considered by many retailers to be the most dangerous man alive. My colleagues believe that I’m wasting my time with you, but I believe you wish to do the right thing. We’re willing to wipe the slate clean. Give you a fresh start. And all that we’re asking in return is your cooperation in bringing good deals that people actually want.
Word to the wise: Monster as a company has been NOTORIOUS throughout their history for misrepresenting and over-specifying their products. I’m not saying their products are utter crap, just that they take liberties with the English language and outright stretch partial truths to justify the price premium they normally place on said products. As long as the product suits your needs and is within your price range, it’s probably going to be all right. This is truly a meh deal compared to the other offerings for similar prices from other reputable vendors (Anker, etc.)
Having said that, I speak from personal experience with their products. I have some 80s-era Monster speaker cable that I got for pennies on the dollar back then, and it’s still performing admirably in my stereo setups.
Well that was dissapointing. I kinda expected this to be rated input volatge 110-240V since every frikkin charging gadget on the surface of the planet is so rated… excpet this one I guess. Which is rated 125v. So I can’t use it here in Foreignland
Has anyone had luck with getting fast charge to work at all with these? None of the 4 ports seems to fast charge my LG G6 or my Samsung S6. Seems fairly disappointing considering it was advertised to have 4 rapid charge ports…
/giphy meh
@sammydog01 Don’t get me wrong, it charges my stuff through any of the ports, but it doesn’t “Quick Charge” like it does with my stock charger that came with my phone. That was what I hoping these would be able to do so I could get rid of my little fire hazard of a power strip with 3 chargers jammed into it.
@RiotDemon I guess I misinterpreted “4-port USB Rapid Charging” on the packaging as something it wasn’t. Either way it’s no big deal, they will still do the trick, just not as quick. I was just curious if mine happened to be acting differently from anyone else’s.

Is that 4.8A for each port or 1.2A each for 4.8A total?
@cengland0 Good question. I just cancelled my order until I find this out.
@cengland0 I believe it’s four (4.8amp each) ports.
@cengland0 @gatwood And “5W” is only 1A at 5 volts.
@gatwood @walarney yes, that 5W output doesnt sound right if it can output 4.8A at 5V, that should be at least 24W.
@cengland0 @gatwood Can’t tell from Monster’s website either. I’ma pass.
@cengland0 @gatwood @walarney Amazon calls it 4 4.8 Amp ports. FWIW…
@cengland0 @walarney If you look closely at the first picture, it looks like there’s 2 fast charge and 2 normal charge ports. The other pictures don’t show this. I wonder what gives?

@PocketBrain then I can’t see what time it is!
Hey! For only 99 bucks, Amazon will install it with expert wall mounting.
@gertiestn will they send a delivery drone to do the install
@OnionSoup They’d better not. I live in DC, where drones are illegal.
Mehster Power.
wait - 4.8A for each port or 1.2A each x4 so 4.8A total ?

Nerdy stuff about charging your phone:
https://accubattery.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/210224725-Charging-research-and-methodology
I actually ‘downgraded’ to a non-fast wireless charger from Fast USB C for overnight charging for that reason.
Tempted but don’t really need. Already well stocked with multi port Anker and RAVPower USB smart chargers.
And then there’s that nasty Monster stigma.

I find it hard to believe this will supply 4.8A x 4 ports…96W total!
@awk That must be the ‘new math’ I keep hearing about.
@awk @mr_crash_davis
4.8A * 5V * 4 ports = 96 AmpVoltPorts.
it checks out
Why does the first picture have what appears to be 4 ports, with two labeled as what I think is fast charge, 2 with normal charge, but the other pictures don’t have the same labels?
@gatwood Hmm I see that too.
Something is fucky.
.5A +.5A + 1.9A+ 1.9A = 4.8A?
“fast”
BE LESS AMBIGUOUS MEH!
@RedOx There’s a YouTube video with the model the “medium size” station that includes outlets as well. It looks like the us outlets are labeled on that one.
The reclining position is a good way to recharge. Fully horizontal is the best way to recharge.
Can’t charge in portrait mode unless you stand the phone upside-down. Deal breaker.
I highly doubt 4.8A per port is accurate. Standard USB is 5V 0.5A with Apple and other companies going up to 2.4A with proprietary protocols using the data pins.

If it actually delivers 4.8A without implementing QC or PD, there’s a good chance it could destroy your cheap USB devices that don’t have proper overcurrent protection.
And the Qualcomm QC gets there by upping the voltage to 9v. The current stays around 2A.
@bruhaha I’m betting it’s 4.8A total between the two ports with the double lightning bolt symbols on them, and then some lower total on the single lightning bolt ports.
