Neodymium magnetic technology is safe to use, and will not harm any smartphone. Carbon steel plates inside the magnetic car mount are designed to absorb magnetic instability
Integrated cable clip keeps charging cable handy and out of the way
@medz I’ve used magnetic vent mounts for a few years. They often end up bending the vents after prolonged use. That’s partially when I switched to this in my car: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NCSRTK7/
But when I rent cars, I use vent mounted magnetic mounts.
Wireless charging is NOT possible with either of these due to the full plates.
@medz for what it’s worth, I have a relatively small phone (moto x4), and something similar broke something inside my air vent, and now it just flops around.
I take one of these sorts of things along whenever I go somewhere and rent a car so I can conveniently use my phone as a GPS. I almost always forget to take it back when I return the car, making each unit suitable for only one use… In for more.
@djslack@mellowirishgent Sorry if I inadvertently came across that way. I meant it only as a playful tongue in cheek comment, which I tried to emphasize with the emoji. I meant no harm, really!
@mellowirishgent It didn’t not make me feel better. The sheer force which propelled you to correct grammar in the product write-up while posting three punctuation-free runon comments in five minutes’ time got my old smartass-o-matic running up near redline in no time.
It’s just joking. Sorry if you took offense. We’re all on the same team here.
Every vent mount holder I have tried has failed me, likely due to a combination of an extended moment arm with the phone’s weight borne far from the vent and the incredible attention to highway maintenance paid by the Louisiana Department of Potholes Transportation.
I wonder how strong the magnet is here. It could either support the phone upright or something it to constantly pivot to inverted portrait mode.
Edit: These look like they still hold the phone a good bit away from the vent, due to the bulk of the ball and socket mechanism for angle adjustment. For this reason, I’m out.
@djslack@stinks I’m in for the very reason you’re out… I’ve had mounts without the extra length, and they were impossible to position properly because they didn’t clear the framing of the vent enough to angle the phone properly. The extra length and the joint of this kind of mount allow for that needed clearance.
@mellowirishgent Not every night. Some nights I come on to make dumbass comments. Some nights I come on to make uproariously Ginny comments. And some nights I come on to make comments that, yes, barely brush the border of clever.
The trick is that I never plan which night is which.
@djslack@mellowirishgent I’m not sure if your whining is more or less annoying than your run-on posting style. This is the internet. Words on a screen shouldn’t affect your feelings as much as they seem to be doing here. Some stranger poked fun at your idiotic posting style. Who fucking cares?
@mellowirishgent To the point of the question: I’ve used a similar one for a while. It does indeed block the vent on my vehicle entirely. No big thing for heat or defrost, but can be for AC. Definitely miss that cold blast coming from center vent when getting in hot car. And yes, it does make your phone cold.
@dvshrt@mellowirishgent I choose not to use this style holder in the winter because the heat from the vent overheats my phone, which I take pains to prevent (Samsung S7 Edge). However, when using A/C it chills my phone very nicely, which I appreciate. I usually have my charge cord plugged in so the phone is already warming from that. Heat from the vent is a challenge.
The ones I have are very much like these, and the rubber fins hold very well on my wife’s Subaru and my Suzuki (yes, I only buy cars that align with my affinity for Linux).
Hope I can remember to grab a few more of these when the “hold” ends at 11am ET.
I have a thin case on my phone, and found that using Goop or some similar flexible adhesive to attach the metal plates to the case is much more secure than the adhesive that is provided on the plates. I can also remove the plate carefully if I change phones.
I love magnetic dashboard phone holders - really make a difference when using BT and mapping apps.
@rpstrong Enough to let autocorrect take over without notice, but less than the guy I bought my house from. He left the biggest bottle of Bombay Sapphire I’ve ever seen in the back of a cabinet in the laundry room along with another that was all but empty.
I got spoiled with Hendrick’s so I haven’t had too much of that Sapphire.
I am reminded to buy some tonic water and limes soon.
It’s like meh is stalking me… I just purchased some of these from Amazon. And just got them yesterday. PLUS taking a long solo trip in a couple months. KINDA creepy meh.
I get a tension mounted version of these at the Dollar Tree… for a dollar each. They have two brackets that are spring loaded and hold the phone in place. Plus the slots for the vents are different widths to accomodate different vent fin thicknesses.They work well, hold the phone in whichever orientation you wish, and don’t risk messing up your QI capability. I especially like them for rentals, since as previously mentioned, it is easy to leave them behind and at a $ a pop it’s no big loss.
I also haven’t had any issue with them not staying on the vent, but that may just be the cars I have used them on (most recently on a Citroen C3 in France last week)
TL:DR check out the Dollar Tree in your area.
@chienfou BTW, DT also has nice retractable microUSB cables in multiple colors for those of us that don’t yet have tech with USB-C or Lightening needs.
So… Can anyone at meh clarify to confirm that this is for 2 vent mount units and not for one vent mount and one suction mount. (i.e. do half the units suck or does the meh write-up…)
@ConcealedPsycho I’m calling out meh on the change in the write up (mentioned elsewhere as including a suction mount version as well) without at least a passing reference in this forum some place…
seems like a bit of ‘bait and switch’…
@ConcealedPsycho@theonlybuster I use a steel plate adhered to the inside top (next to the camera) of my iPhone XS with a magnetic mount and charge the phone wirelessly every night without removing it from the case. You just can’t cover the central area of the phone back.
@ConcealedPsycho Look at the photos, especially the one attached to an iPhone. The plate is shorter than the phone is wide; it can be attached horozonally.
I’m automatically wary of having magnets around any piece of computing hardware, but maybe I need to stop being such a geezer who’s used to floppies and CRTs.
These aren’t good for long road trips in winter weather in either of our family cars. The vents in our cars don’t close all of the way. If the front window defroster is turned on, this stye holder cooks the phone.
Much better car/phone solution: have a steel plate embedded in your forehead. Then you can securely mount your phone there, and see all GPS directions with your Third Eye…
The metal plate that you need for these mounts will block the ability to wireless charge. I had bought the wireless chargers from Meh a few weeks back and had to do away with my magnetic mounts and switch to a cradle mount.
The magnets are great, the vent mount is wobbly,so every time I have to remove the phone from the mount the vent mount comes out also , That being said @ 4 bucks delivered it’s a good buy in my humble opinion.

Well, these are attractive.
Mehhhhgnets
I don’t trust my air vents to hold the weight of my phone.
@medz How heavy is your phone?!?
@medz @shahnm
@medz on 2 different that i tried , these work well( i bought a different brand but it looks like the same product)
i used 2 different phones and it held up well

@medz I don’t like these either - I use the ones that slide into your CD player instead.
wow.been forever since i didnt meh…
these are a 2 on the margarita scale.
@alacrity How many have you had tonight?
@stinks just 1 (and I already have 5 of this kind of mount as they work great).
I take one of these sorts of things along whenever I go somewhere and rent a car so I can conveniently use my phone as a GPS. I almost always forget to take it back when I return the car, making each unit suitable for only one use… In for more.
/giphy vague-fragrant-willow
@shahnm me too and if I’m using a black cable I usually leave that behind as well
They need to make these vent holders in fluorescent orange
@oldmantick
“One hooks to the air vent. Another can be suctioned to the windshield. Choose which one you like and give the away.“
Both missing “other” in the last sentence, and the photos and Spec both show/say nothing about suction cups?
@FrozenTrout precisely my dilemma (or dilemna to some)
These are about twice what I would expect to pay, especially from Meh.
@accumulator, good thing you get TWO then?
@jsh139 It’s like Puddles’ evil fraternal twin…
@jsh139 Insane Clown Posse Science Show? No, kids - you can’t watch that!
I’m not one to correct spelling or grammar but in your last paragraph it should say give the other away you left out other
@mellowirishgent Apparently you are also not one who is fully aware of the sort you actually might be…
@shahnm Or to practice such care in one’s own writings, if we’re going to put a fine point on it.
@mellowirishgent @djslack @shahnm Punctuation is entirely different than spelling or grammar.
@djslack @shahnm I’m not writing commentry for Meh product just trying to help them.
@shahnm I tried to help by making a polite comment, if putting me down makes you feel better have at it lol
@djslack @mellowirishgent Sorry if I inadvertently came across that way. I meant it only as a playful tongue in cheek comment, which I tried to emphasize with the emoji. I meant no harm, really!
@djslack @shahnm Ok Ty
@djslack @mike808 @shahnm TY who knew lol

@haydesigner @mediocrebot RIP these teams seasons
You wanna mount something? I can show you how to mount something! You know… in South Dakota
Am I missing something one says attached to your windshield or attached to your vent I don’t see any windshield suction
@mellowirishgent Punctuation. You’re missing punctuation.
Also, maybe some information about the item for sale.
@djslack Did that make you feel better?
@mellowirishgent It didn’t not make me feel better. The sheer force which propelled you to correct grammar in the product write-up while posting three punctuation-free runon comments in five minutes’ time got my old smartass-o-matic running up near redline in no time.

Wireless charging and magnetic mounting are polarizing forces in the mobile world. There can be only one per device.
These look cool, but I’m on team wireless charging, so no magmounts for me.
@djslack But they claim that isn’t a problem.
Ymmv. Ianal.
@stinks Hmm… Interesting.
What L are you not in this matter?
Every vent mount holder I have tried has failed me, likely due to a combination of an extended moment arm with the phone’s weight borne far from the vent and the incredible attention to highway maintenance paid by the Louisiana Department of

@shahnm Oops, I accidentally a key piece of information.
My vents look like this:
They probably hold weight much more effectively on a vent with horizontal slats.
@djslack Well now that we know you drive a Veloster, we’re well on the way to full on stalking!
@cinoclav @djslack He may have been trolling us with a rental - you just can’t trust the ol’ web anymore.
@cinoclav Yes… but did you know that, or did you read it on the blank where the starter button goes on the models with options?
@djslack I vaguely recognized it as I’ve looked at them before. But I did a quick google check on the image.
@cinoclav @djslack Vole’s a very cute, but why did they name a car after it?
A quick question how is the air conditioning or heat going to affect the phone when it’s attached to the air vents thank you in advance
@mellowirishgent It will cool or heat the phone to a nice comfortable level.
@djslack Wondering if you just come on every night to make not so clever comments ?
@djslack @mellowirishgent Not every night. Just the very, very special nights.
@mellowirishgent Not every night. Some nights I come on to make dumbass comments. Some nights I come on to make uproariously Ginny comments. And some nights I come on to make comments that, yes, barely brush the border of clever.

@djslack @mellowirishgent Ouch. Name not checking out.

In for 1
@lilsrm123 DON’T feed the creepy stalker!
Hmmm. Combine with this for a vent-cooled portable magnetic mount beverage holder.
Sweet!
@mike808 Unless the two magnets have mismatched polarity, in which case you have a vent-mounted, air conditioned beverage launcher!
@djslack @mike808 I wonder if there’s a way to have the polarity switch randomly. Just to keep things festive…
Between this and the rumination on 9 as a P vs 3 as an E and this is a quality write-up.
/giphy magnifique
@stinks Hrm. With the suction cup and grammar confusion, perhaps not a practical win, but still a great write-up.
/giphy careful-grizzly-sunflower
How about an AC vent phone mount that could mount a pop socket?
SOCK PUPPETS
Gonna give them a try,8 bucks is not gonna break me.1 more for the Meh draw .Ty team Meh much appreciated

The photos only show the AC mount, but the write-up mentioned a window mount (mehbe it’s this one: https://tudiaproducts.com/collections/car-mounts/products/tudia-universal-magnetic-window-mount). Hope someone clarifies the matter.
@tinsami1 My bitdefender blocked this link as containing Malware …beware
So… Can anyone at meh clarify to confirm that this is for 2 vent mount units and not for one vent mount and one suction mount. (i.e. do half the units suck or does the meh write-up…)

@ConcealedPsycho I’m calling out meh on the change in the write up (mentioned elsewhere as including a suction mount version as well) without at least a passing reference in this forum some place…
seems like a bit of ‘bait and switch’…
@chienfou @ConcealedPsycho I had asked meh for clarification. The change recently happened and I just came back to comment.
@ConcealedPsycho @RiotDemon Thanks… guess I should have waited til I had a second cup of coffee to post that last one!
@chienfou no worries. You were commenting at the same time I was.
/giphy laughing-tattered-mercury
Not true If your phone has wireless charging the magnet that attach to your phone WILL block the receiver and you’ll have to go back to cords only.
@ConcealedPsycho Agreed. I’ve tried quite a few magnetic mounts and NONE (with full plates) allow wireless charging.
@ConcealedPsycho @theonlybuster I use a steel plate adhered to the inside top (next to the camera) of my iPhone XS with a magnetic mount and charge the phone wirelessly every night without removing it from the case. You just can’t cover the central area of the phone back.
@accumulator Doesn’t that shield the NFC though? Do you use Apple Pay?
@Eris yep, I use Apple Pay, all the time. No problems with it (funny, I never even considered that would be a problem).
@ConcealedPsycho Look at the photos, especially the one attached to an iPhone. The plate is shorter than the phone is wide; it can be attached horozonally.
Doesn’t a magnet fry your storage drive?
@arfdawg only on phones that still use floppy disks.
Nothing I try will hold my phone to the vents…Plus, I just love the feel of my bag.
@Bumplepimp Your mom loves the feel of my bag, too.
@Bumplepimp @mike808 lol
@Bumplepimp
…perhaps you should get a room… or at least refrain from feeling your bag in the car.
@mike808 Dad???
I’m automatically wary of having magnets around any piece of computing hardware, but maybe I need to stop being such a geezer who’s used to floppies and CRTs.
@lljk Don’t keep stuff in SentrySafe (owned by MasterLock) safes either. Other brands have similar flaws.
@lljk Magnetic film

@hamjudo thankfully many cars now have vents with the capability to close the vent using a roller control…
For those of you that had asked, the write up was changed to correct the error. There is no suction mount.
@RiotDemon mea culpa (see above)
@RiotDemon That sucks
@Condalmo
Doesn’t suck*
Sigh. I’d get these, but with my magnetic personality, they’d just be repelled.
A trivial purchase!

@lehigh It worked! Your order number is: silly-atomic-bean
/image silly atomic bean
$1.99 from Monoprice. Bad thing is that it blocks the air from the vent, but my phone gets hot when using GPS, so the AC keeps it cool.
I find these magnetic holders screw up my GPS due to the compass being screwed up from the magnet. Does anyone else find this to be the case as well?
Why does your GPS care about your compass?
@rpstrong to know which direction you’re facing?
@djslack GPS reports position, not attitude. Your navigation app uses both, but magnetism won’t screw up the GPS part.
@rpstrong Good thing, too. I would probably be in trouble if my attitude got reported.
Literally sold out as I was going to buy these!
Dang totally missed it due to time difference
I’m upset that this was sold out an hour after I received the email!
@silverbullet67 Correct–I’d be upset with myself too.
The one day I forget to look at meh! These things look cool (cheap at least).
Why didn’t I get a call before you sold out??
Good for you doing great business!!
Put up for sale tuesday and just shipped thursday! Thats not very mediocre Meh. Im used to “We’ll get to it” shipping
The magnets are great, the vent mount is wobbly,so every time I have to remove the phone from the mount the vent mount comes out also , That being said @ 4 bucks delivered it’s a good buy in my humble opinion.
Even though I put both magnets on the back of my phone, it won’t hold up my iphone 7+, sadly.
