I have no need for any more of these. But 16 for $6! Less than $0.38 each (well more when you include tax and if you have to pay shipping). That’s crazy! If I thought I had any use for these it would be an amazing deal. But I’m trying to declutter and my car already has two USB ports as does every rental car I’ve had in the past few years…including the ancient Camry that smelled like that chemical they use to try to get rid of smoke smell and had a cigarette burn in the passenger seat that I got when I was in Buffalo in January for work. So I’m going to try very hard to pass on these.
But, Meh, this is the type of deal that makes these Mehrathons fun and I would love to see more of them (which I guess means I should probably buy at least one of these megapacks…but I don’t need them and I’m trying to declutter and, well, if they were flashlights or putty or even powerbanks or bluetooth speakers…something I could think of good possible alternate uses for maybe.)
Has anyone taken one of these particular units apart?
Are these based on a linear or a switch mode power supply?
I have taken similar looking ones and they contained an LED, a resistor, and a single 78L05 with no heatsink or capacitors. Thus they could supply 500mA when cold, but less and less as they warmed up. They had a very short life in a car.
I have also seen ones with decent switch mode power supplies which didn’t get hot, could supply their rated current, and didn’t die in a matter of days.
1 amp, all waiting, the only “rapid” is the regret. And they aren’t even heavy enough to make good sling ammo, so that nasty giant is going to have to make do with being offed by an AGM-114R.

$16 for 6 of anything is a good deal?
@osfish ITYM “?lead doog a”
@osfish This is a good deal if you own a gas station.
1000 mAH is pretty weak. This would barely keep up with usage. How can they call these rapid anything? I feel like they’re still overpriced
@capguncowboy You mean 1000mA. The “H” is for hour/s and is usually to measure battery capacity.
I’m very glad I don’t have 16 cars. Otherwise I might have a use for these.
16 of anything for $6 I’m in !

I guess it is somewhat like a no surprise IRK.
Could you give them out for Trick or Treat?
@Euniceandrich For all those kids that own a car?
At first glance I thought these were missiles. So much disappointment.

No go. Not enough for my 17 cars.

@hamjudo Now we can see Meh’s rationale of selling a 16 pack as they may have a very short life expectancy!
@hamjudo @sschong exactly. mine were garbage. all failed in a very short time.
