Every time I see them on Amazon and they talk about how washable they are, I wonder if I really want to put a 15-20 pound blanket into my front loader with a clear conscience.
@TehMaliron weighted blankets aren’t super warm, as they use solid beads to fill interior pockets instead of down or other insulation. However, if the dogs like to chew you’ll have a major problem with beads
@Superllama7 sweet, they don’t chew at all, so this should work perfect. They like to borrow, and light summer blankets just aren’t enough for them to feel buried.
The ONLY review I found said that this uses small glass beads, and the weave of the fabric is such that the beads come through, and you end up with a bed full of micro glass beads. This may be why they ended up on MEH. This is also barely a twin size, and it is the ONLY weighted blanket I have seen in this price range that is not machine washable. Maybe because it leaks beads. I was semi-interested until I started researching it, then it became a hard pass.
@laurelnev a lot of weighted blankets have removable covers. I’d think twice about putting a 15 lb item in your washing machine… Also (and I’m not advocating for this particular blanket whatsoever), I think most weighted blankets are sized for one person, because a 15lb king-size blanket isn’t really all that heavy
I have fibro, so this could be great or awful. I’ve heard good things though. BUT I sleep with one of those U shaped body pillows. Weight wise, I’m all of about 107 lbs, and I have heard you need 10% of your body weight, so I’m more concerned about size in this case, as I’d like it to cover me and my body pillow. Also concerned about finding a cover–if this does not have ties, you’ll need to find a cover that is that EXACT size…if it’s leaky and not a standard full, finding a cover might be so costly, you’re better off buying a more expensive blanket that comes with one, I’m thinking. I’m starting to see these at around this price on sale, or like $10 more, and those are usually full or queen size, with better reviews.
@laurelnev I just learned from a friend who works at Target, that they have a nice one for around this price. Maybe better for you, since you can see it in store, easier return etc?
@cinoclav@laurelnev Hmm, I don’t see it online either? Maybe in store only? My friend is supposed to double check details tomorrow, but sadly that may be too late in this case. This is a really good price.
@laurelnev Sorry, I’m sure that doesn’t help you being torn. Honestly, if it isn’t going to break the bank, I’d go for it. I really don’t think you’d regret it.
@laurelnev@RogerWilco Thanks got sharing this link. The hazardous chemicals in the blanket prohibiting it from being shipped to California was the deal breaker for me. Buyer be super beware.
@Bukaroo Apparently these aren’t supposed to hang over the side of the bed, but rather sit on top. Supposedly the weight will (Eventually) pull the blanket to the floor.
I simply say lay the weighted blanket evenly so anything hanging over one side is matched by the other.
@haydesigner I’m sure that’s true. I’m just saying it’s original purpose was this. It was invented as a result of Temple Grandin’s research. It’s great it turned out to be even more useful.
@JT954 I believe the idea is that some people find weight comforting, but 15+ pounds of wool or down would incredibly warm. So having one weighted with beads likes this gets there while staying thin and cooler.
Thank you! My daughter has high functioning autism. We already bought two on Morning Save. They are great, but heavy enough that it will be nice have more to keep different places around the house. These are literally a god send. I do wish these were the softer style like the 2nd one we bought on Morning save, but these are still really nice.
Always wanted to try one of these, but never wanted to pay the (seemingly) high price for a blanket. I see that these are a little small but should be large to scratch my curiosity. Thanks Meh!
This review makes me think I don’t want one: “I bought this from a different retailer but I want to make sure everyone is aware. The glass “beads” in these are microscopic. So small in fact they go THROUGH THE FABRIC and you get to lay on sand size glass all night. I’m crafty so I bought poly pellets that will be here soon that I will have to drain this hazardous glass junk and fill with those.”
I guess I’m in the minority here, but why would one want a heavy blanket on top of them? I just don’t get it - I’m a “kick off all the covers” sleeper, this sounds claustrophobic-inducing, to me…
@cbl_wv I can’t sleep without weight on me, but I get overheated easily with regular blankets. This is a good compromise for me. Not too hot but with the weight I like.
@aliasdenied@cbl_wv I have an old ralph lauren denim comforter. Heavy, but it breathes surprisingly well. The day this thing has to get tossed is the last day I sleep.
I live on South Texas but I’m currently in Omaha helping my daughter through a tough time. Is there anyone near Omaha willing to order this so I can give it to her? Last i knew Meh would only shop to the billing address. I don’t know when I’ll be going home.
@cahuston You can specify different shipping and bulling addresses now. There’s a checkbox, checked by default on the checkout page, that tells Meh the addresses are the same. Uncheck it.
@cahuston You can ship to a different address. You just need to select the billing address is different then the shipping address and enter in the correct billing address for your credit card. I have shipped to a different address in the past without issue.
@Pamela No kidding - unless it’s really cold in the room, I kick off everything on the bed at some point during the night, including the top sheet! This would make me feel like I was being held down by constraints!!
I have had the neck pillows filled with little round balls of something and they do leak through and I am covered with “stuff”. Anyone know if this will do the same thing? Is the fabric covering dense enough to stop the balls from travelling to the outside??
One more question: Is this going to be too hot?? I love having something heavy on me, but I also get too hot very easily. So it is heavy, is it also hot??
Not sure I would like these so well. I am also a ‘kick off the covers’ kind of guy. The only time I can remember enjoying having heavy blankets on me was lying under several alpaca blankets at Gringo Bill’s in Aguas Caliente near Machu Picchu back when it was a backpacker’s hotel and didn’t have heat in the rooms. Once you got in bed you were pinned down by the weight.
Worth a shot at this price. I don’t sleep well because my gf has restless leg syndrome and tends to kick me all night long. I’ve been looking into getting her a weighted blanket for quite some time. If it works and doesn’t leak it’ll be the best damn thing I’ve ever bought.
/image brutal-thorough-iron
@cinoclav just an FYI, restless leg syndrome isn’t really a syndrome. It’s a side effect of different prescription drugs. The cure is easy-just take iron supplements. Certain prescriptions prohibit iron uptake, which causes the RLS. I had it too, bad, it was restless arms and legs, but luckily I had a doc that taught me about the iron and it’s cured. Makes me angry that big pharma gets away with making a side effect into a made up ‘syndrome’ so they can sell more pills.
@Gypsigirl213 Far from the truth. RLS is an actual disease (Willis-Ekbom Disease). While iron deficiency and anemia are associated with it, and iron supplements may help it, please do not consider it simply a side effect. I’ve known numerous people who deal with it and are not on prescription drugs. It has been studied well enough to know there are genetic factors involved.
@cinoclav Hi - I had the restless leg situation (for those of us who don’t care for the overused word “syndrome”) and cramping in my calves most every night for quite some time. Someone told me about placing an unwrapped bar of soap (white Dial works fine) at the bottom of the bed on top of the mattress and under the fitted sheet. Just put it there and forget it. I thought it sounded crazy so I Googled it, found TONS of people talking about it, tried it myself and hadn’t had an issue for 3 years, woke up with cramping, put in a new bar of soap and PRESTO! no more leg issues the next night. From what I understand, it has something about the slow release of phosphorus relaxing the muscles just enough. I don’t really care, as long as I’m not medicating myself to have a decent night’s sleep. It’s certainly worth the price of a bar of soap to give it a go.
You somehow inserted something into my polite responses that were not there, @arfdawg. However, I suspect you will be resistant to any convincing, so I will simply end it and wish you a good night.
I have a different weighted blanket and love it. I just lay it over my regular comforter for the weight. It is rather soothing. When I first got it I did notice that some sand appeared in my bed. I thought it may have been from the blanket, but it could also be from the dog who sleeps there.
i want a weighted blanket actually. but ugh, another shitty 4x6’ “blanket” - not even twin size and i buy king. this is a throw. (yes, i know, a throw blanket but the picture shows it as a bed sized blanket.)
@jerk_nugget I think the size is related to its function. Do you want 15lbs distributed over your body, or do you want 15 lbs distributed over 70+ square feet? Do you think the latter would even be that noticeable?
We tried these and both hated them. They went right back to Amazon. If you sleep on your back, imagine the weight on your feet pushing them down. It wasn’t comforting, it was like being in a coffin.
I’ve seen very expensive weighted blankets that are used for kids who have anxiety issues. Perhaps I fold this sucker in half to increase the intensity???
I’ve said before that I would buy weighted blankets if Meh sold them, but after thinking about it today the low-to-middling reviews turned me off of this one. I’ve also read that I would need one 5-10 pounds heavier for it to be effective for my weight.
My daughter bought one somewhere for herself. Her kids kept taking it. MEH to the rescue with a conspicuously convenient item. Bought two, one for each grandkid. They better be more calm with these or the MEH is getting a strongly worded email from me…
Well that’s the quickest something from Meh has ever shown up after I bought it (not counting those toothbrushes, because lol). Gonna keep this one in the living room for when I have a snooze on the couch. I have a 25lb one I use daily on the bed. I sleep so much better.
I should figure out a cover for both of them though so I don’t have to drag them to the dry cleaners…
Got mine yesterday. Box was taped up, the plastic bag the blanket came in was absolutely destroyed, but the blanket itself seems to be undamaged. Guess I’ll know for sure when I get home and check the bed for glass beads.
Fiddle-sticks. I got a ragged notion that my new blankie’d be arriving today. But as it happens, it’s sitting in Nevada, nowhere near my pliant belly. Consarn it. Gad-blast it. Toots-a-marlon, sirrah. Etc.
This was one of the best Meh purchases ever. My daughter (11) has had awesome sleep ever since. I will be scooping up a few more for the rest of the family when they come around again.
So, I had bought a cover for the blanket and I’m glad I did. There are definitely a lot of really, really tiny beads loose in there. They feel like grains of sand. I’m going to have to take it outside and try to figure out where the leak is.
This may sound unusual but I got my blanket and I was very comfortable with it and I could sleep very well also so I was happy. But the two days I slept with it I noticed the next two mornings I woke up from it I had such pain in my muscles hurt and I couldn’t hardly move. I did not know what was wrong. Long story short It ends up it was my weighted blanket. Positively disappointed. I went the next night without it and had no problem the next day. I do not use it anymore and I had no idea it could be in effect like that. So now I have a blanket I can’t use.But it was very comfortable for two nights I slept with it and I did sleep very well I noticed a big difference. But apparently it affects certain people and causes muscle strain and it was horrible.

@DrunkCat If you wear it like a cape and then go run around your neighborhood.
Every time I see them on Amazon and they talk about how washable they are, I wonder if I really want to put a 15-20 pound blanket into my front loader with a clear conscience.
@heartbleed You have a washing machine with ethics?
I blame the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation…
@heartbleed I got two duvets with mine, so I just switch out when it’s time for a wash. Conscience preserved.
@heartbleed you’ve gotta have a duvet. “Glass beads” = “sand”. You’re not washing this thing in a machine without regretting it.
@heartbleed This one specifies dry clean only.
@heartbleed If you wash it by it’s self it’s no heavier than a normal load.
I’m weighing my decision…
I feel snugglier already!
/giphy snuggles
I want to try one of these, but I’m broke right now. Maybe next time, if they come back again.
@Pony Don’t let it weigh on you.
I was almost on board until the dry clean only
@tracergod Good catch
@tracergod oof
Cheap enough I’m willing to risk washing it.
@haydesigner Even if the blanket survives, the washing machine might have something to say about it. 15 lbs is a lot for one piece of laundry…
@tracergod i make a duvet cover out of 2 sheets… sew on 3 sides… optional buttons or ties on the bottom.
@tracergod especially if you pay by the pound!
@tracergod Dry Clean Only = Never Been Washed
I think my dachshunds might really like this for the summer months. How hot is it though?
@TehMaliron weighted blankets aren’t super warm, as they use solid beads to fill interior pockets instead of down or other insulation. However, if the dogs like to chew you’ll have a major problem with beads

@Superllama7 @TehMaliron @wyadams No, they borrow the blanket!!

C’mon Bobby! Light the fuse!
48 x 72 is pretty small even for a twin size bed.
@zenzic They are not supposed to go off the sides of the bed, just on the mattress. Otherwise they would pull off with the weight.
The ONLY review I found said that this uses small glass beads, and the weave of the fabric is such that the beads come through, and you end up with a bed full of micro glass beads. @laurelnev link of the review? I’m still searchin
@laurelnev We have two, and they have been great so far. No leaky glass beads yet.

@dalekjoe Are they THIS brand or a different one? I have haerd this is true with some brands but not others.
@Superllama7 That’s what laundromats are for.

Makes me nervous…
@laurelnev This brand, 12lb
@dalekjoe Thank you…I am so torn! lol
@laurelnev I just learned from a friend who works at Target, that they have a nice one for around this price. Maybe better for you, since you can see it in store, easier return etc?
@dalekjoe Thank you! I think they are starting to come down in price…kind of like snuggies, which are pretty cheap these days.
@dalekjoe @laurelnev I just looked through Target’s listings and don’t see one for anything close to this price.
@cinoclav @laurelnev Hmm, I don’t see it online either? Maybe in store only? My friend is supposed to double check details tomorrow, but sadly that may be too late in this case. This is a really good price.

@laurelnev @RogerWilco Thanks got sharing this link. The hazardous chemicals in the blanket prohibiting it from being shipped to California was the deal breaker for me. Buyer be super beware.
@laurelnev Holy crap. After reading that, given ONE, review…this sounds like a $35 cleanup nightmare. Thanks for the heads up.
@Gypsigirl213 no kidding… but lets be honest…
What doesn’t cause cancer in California nowadays?
Sarcasm intended.
@Gypsigirl213 @RogerWilco I live here and the stupid prop now is on just about everything. “Known to the state of cancer to cause California!”
Looks like it’s actually smaller than a twin…
@Bukaroo Apparently these aren’t supposed to hang over the side of the bed, but rather sit on top. Supposedly the weight will (Eventually) pull the blanket to the floor.
I simply say lay the weighted blanket evenly so anything hanging over one side is matched by the other.
Is a weighed blanket suppose to keep you warmer or cooler? The idea of wrapping myself with glass doesn’t sound comforting.
@JT954 They are mostly for calming people with high anxiety and/or sensory issues, such as people on the autism spectrum.
@dalekjoe, there are many other uses and reasons. For example, I have permanently cold feet, and heavier blankets noticeably helps it.

@riveryeti except that is not the product meh is selling.
@riveryeti It is the same brand, same size, color, etc., and is the same one they compare to on Amazon. Makes me wonder if it really IS 12 lbs vs 15.
@laurelnev @riveryeti The Amazon comparison says “for similar” though.
@laurelnev @riveryeti Nevermind, I didn’t catch there were two Amazon comparisons.

I don’t need a weighted blanket. I have cats.
@Kidsandliz This sounds more like having Tigers than just cats!
@Kidsandliz I have 2 20lb cats, but I can’t control when they are on my lap as well as these blankets.

@ripper69 Mine is 25 pounds and never leaked
One more question: Is this going to be too hot?? I love having something heavy on me, but I also get too hot very easily. So it is heavy, is it also hot??
@ripper69 It’s less hot than a 15lb down comforter.
@ripper69 It’s the summer. Of course it’s gonna be hot. Use it in the Winter
Or you can just scoop a bunch of sand into a duvet cover and cure schizophrenia and impulse purchase desires.

Lucky!!! Mine are stuck in Grapevine, TX… according to tracking info.
Mine came a couple days ago and so far so good!
Got mine yesterday. Box was taped up, the plastic bag the blanket came in was absolutely destroyed, but the blanket itself seems to be undamaged. Guess I’ll know for sure when I get home and check the bed for glass beads.
Just got mine today. Gave it a test snuggle on the couch. I like it so far. Not overly warm but feels substantial. Nice!

Fiddle-sticks. I got a ragged notion that my new blankie’d be arriving today. But as it happens, it’s sitting in Nevada, nowhere near my pliant belly. Consarn it. Gad-blast it. Toots-a-marlon, sirrah. Etc.
It got here today! I am snuggled up under it as I type. Though…”pinned under it” may be more correct.
I thought 15 pounds was going to be too light…but it’s actually really heavy!
Recd the blanket and so happy I have it. - had made one myself and that was a deal filling the blanket with all those beads - love this one
I received my 15 pound blanket and love it
I guess I didn’t read the fine print. It’s pretty small. Not big enough for 2 people.
@chaotix It’s Dry Clean Only.
When will I be able to buy this blanket
@mamawolterman It was only for sale for one day on Meh. However, you can buy it at Meh’s sister site, Morningsave.com.
(Click on the picture and you will be taken to MorningSave.)
@mamawolterman It’s back up for 7/5/19’s deal
@Jamileigh17 @mamawolterman For $1 more!
This was one of the best Meh purchases ever. My daughter (11) has had awesome sleep ever since. I will be scooping up a few more for the rest of the family when they come around again.
LEGOS! EGGOS! STRATEGO! AWESOME!
But apparently it affects certain people and causes muscle strain and it was horrible.
i love mine. i put it over my comforter. it gets hot in the summer, but i just put on my fan and im good. i cant sleep without it now. love it.
