@Jonas4321@yakkoTDI It’s probably more accurate, since you can’t sneakily keep trying until you get the answer you want. (By pretending it’s coming up on an edge, or just doing it out of sight.) With the web-based simulator, the first answer’s out there for all to see.
@ybmuG There are a number of Chinese ones that passed the CDC specs for filtration back in the day when they had that list. There are plenty of N95’s that are made in China.
Truth is that this kind of thing does help when cold and flu season comes around. In addition to whatever other Covid variants might come up.
But from my experience most of the KN95 style are just too tight around my ears. Might be fine for non-big-headed people.
But now you can get quality US-made 3M masks again (not at this price of course). Which I always had around anyway for painting and home maintenance. I’d recommend getting a box of 10 of those instead. (Don’t buy 1 or 2-packs price for each is much higher)
@pmarin On most you can stretch the ears out prior to wearing. I have two hooks in a closet that, after fiddling, got exactly the right distance apart (used kitchen cupboard knobs prior to that but they weren’t perfectly spaced) where I let them sit overnight stretched out and then they are fine. Well I can’t speak to this brand but the Powcom brand this works with and most have similar ear piece material.
@pmarin Yep, I plan to wear them when in public throughout cold & flu season every year, because my immune system’s a bit weak and even a minor cold can take me weeks to get over. I’d already been using hand sanitizer religiously whenever I leave a public building, even if I didn’t touch anything inside and the doors were automatic. Helps to make it a habit for the times you really need to use it.
@Kidsandliz@pmarin I suffered terrible ear pain from the KN95 mask straps early in the pandemic. Got a package of those elastic extenders that clip on the straps and go behind the head. Pinnae pain gone. There are also some masks with two behind-the-head straps, which avoids the problem. MrsNews uses those.
@JT954 I see from the codes on the side these are the 2006 standards. There are now 2019 standards that are a bit cooler to wear as there is less resistance to air when you breathe (doesn’t affect the filtering) but anything over your face will be hot in that they allow your body temperature air from your nose and mouth to remain around your face - masks, scarves, hats with just eye and nose holes… all do that. The rectangular ones filter less because they have more air leaks but that also makes them retain less heat around your face.
@JT954 It’s not sweat, it’s condensation from the warmth in your breath being trapped under the mask. That’s going to happen with any mask that filters, and can even happen with scarves and balaclavas like Kidsandliz said.
People are so uninterested in Covid, that if a new variant killed half of your neighbors, the local news would instead report how the housing crisis is suddenly over.
@mattykillpatty Adding to the dual purposes instead of a scarf or hat with eye holes to rob a bank. Actually a good disguise for thieves too.
In our parking lot we had thieves wearing these while breaking into cars along with a loose hoodie and gloves. Pretty much meant you couldn’t tell anything about them including race, sex, age… I came home one night interrupting someone breaking into the SUV parked 2 cars from mine. I had pulled into my spot and didn’t know they were there - they had crouched down when I drove up so I didn’t see them. I was sitting in my car (this was after dark) thinking about whether or not I wanted to do a quick run to the grocery store instead of go inside (apartment building). Then they popped up. Couldn’t tell a thing about the person other than how tall they were. Fortunately after a stare down they left. I waited to call the police since phones light up when you use them. No idea if they had a gun and didn’t want to risk it.
Tempting, but I still have several hundred KN95s left over. Awaiting the next pandemic, which is already here in Flori-duh, where it’s not the heat, it’s the stupidity…
The stockpile I bought served me well through the plague, and I ended up giving away hundreds of remaining packages to my coworkers when the canadian wildfires made the air in my region unbreathable for 2 days.
I got an e-mail asking me to share any creative uses I have for these. They’re great if you want to cosplay as Norton Sinclair. (Thank you to the two people who got the joke.)
These were super handy, I could throw a pack in my bag and I knew I had at least a mask and a couple of backups in case the strap snapped.
Also caught the dreaded virus (I’m fine now) after dodging it for 3 years so definitely not letting up on the masking in public going forward. Thanks for the not so subtle hint to buy today’s meh!

Who was that masked man?!
Will these things filter out Canadian smoke?
(I wish they weren’t so intent on smoking all their meats.)
@phendrick Yup they will, Canadian here. Level 11 air quality here and I wear them as much as I can stand.
Is the ink that is used to print the cryptic info on each mask toxic? Magic 8 Ball says “Why Risk It?”
@Jonas4321 Use the real thing.
/8ball Is the ink that is used to print the cryptic info on each mask toxic?
Without a doubt
@yakkoTDI lol we live in a world where a web-based simulator is considered “the real thing”.

Why weren’t these in the IRK? Oh, you didn’t sell that many.
@hchavers ouch
I thought they were some weird condom when I clicked on the page lol
@Star2236 They are.
@Star2236 They are very much like a condom.
Based on the code printed on the masks, like the Amazon reference, made in China, so I’m out. Otherwise I’d stock up for sanding, painting, etc.
NOISH and I’m in
@ybmuG There are a number of Chinese ones that passed the CDC specs for filtration back in the day when they had that list. There are plenty of N95’s that are made in China.
@Kidsandliz they’re certified to Chinese standards which have been accepted by the CDC. Not the same
When I first saw the fourth picture I was sure it said “genocide” on it.

@MrNews @pmarin Those with 2 straps are the same strap style N95’s use.
Are these breathable in that they don’t cause sweating? It seems like every mask I wear causes me to sweat a lot.
@JT954 no, not a chance.

@JT954
Try a Cambridge Mask or Vogmask with a vent.

The last sentence of the write up is brilliant! Well done!
@mattykillpatty I loved the Duel purposes, too!
Yay! Props to the writer!
Nice job!

@mattykillpatty Agreed, but why is the grass wearing suspenders?
@gregormehndel weirdly, I think it’s the suspenders who are wearing grass…
Oh, the joys of the English language!

Stock up now in preparation for Plandemic 2.0!
That’s a lot of plastic.
Nothing/something to sneeze at!
Good deal for anyone who wants to stock up ahead of the next Chinese Communist Party assault on the world.
The stockpile I bought served me well through the plague, and I ended up giving away hundreds of remaining packages to my coworkers when the canadian wildfires made the air in my region unbreathable for 2 days.
So you’re saying it can make a hard margarita, amirite?

Not buying these, though. I’m team headstrap.
I see the date says 2006 - what is the expiration date? These things don’t have unlimited shelf life.
