I was wondering when something like this was going to show up. The freeze dried candy thing has kinda run it’s course. First started by people buying the dehydrator and then trying to recoup some of the money spent selling exploded skittles at craft fairs.
I noticed most of the negative reviews on the 'zon were for brand varieties not included in this offer. People really seem to dislike the berry crunch ice cream and the crunchy bears. Most reviews of the sweet and sour varieties are positive. Some folks find the sour to be too sour (akin to WarHeads perhaps?) and occasionally the bag contents arrive crushed. Given what I’ve received from meh in the past, that seems like a very possible outcome.
I’ll have to pass as I’m not a huge fan of sour candies, while the sweet ones sound way too cloyingly sweet just by the ingredients list. First 3 ingredients are different types of sugar. Throw in the artificial colors and flavors and 48 ounces of these simply do not sound like something I want in my pantry.
@ciabelle Yes, good find! I noticed the same before deciding to bring these in. I wouldn’t say these are as sour as warheads, definitely one step below. My favorite are the Sweet Squares (my only empty bag currently )
@ciabelle@Lynnerizer@troy just their size, I believe. Personally I prefer the smaller ones, since the bigger pieces end up hurting the roof of my mouth more easily.
What is happening?!! Best buy dates more than 16 months from now?! Wait, just how meh do these candies need to be to balance those dates and make these deserving of being on Meh… (Guess, I’ll have to buy them to find out… for science!)
@nobile
Wow, I’d say those ARE EXPENSIVE! Nuts.com has the most delicious veggie chips! 🫛
At one point I was getting them at least a couple of times a month! Just slightly addicted I’d have to admit! 🫣 They’re sold out right now but they should be back in stock in a few days, they make everything right there onsite so it’s always fresh.
They’ve got free shipping when you spend $59 and run specials all the time where you only have to spend $29 to get the free shipping, sometimes (like right now) they offer 20% or 25% off. All of their stuff is delicious, I love their honey roasted cashews and butter toffee cashews. Actually, I LOVE almost everything I’ve ever gotten from them! Their kettle corn is fantastic!
@ShotgunX for me, at least the "brand’ I tried of the Skittles, it was pretty damn underwhelming. I love crunchy things and like Skittles so was excited to try them and they didn’t taste much different to me and the crunch wasn’t what I was hoping for. My kids weren’t all that impressed either and after everyone tried them the 3/4 left of the bag sat there for a couple weeks lol.
Maybe worth getting a bag at the gas station to see if it’s something you like but I personally wouldn’t want this many of these lol.
@scilynt So if I get a bag of freeze dried Skittles from Amazon to try out, it’s basically the same thing? It would arrive on Saturday, and I assume these won’t go out of stock here.
@scilynt@ShotgunX
Depending on what that one single bag costs from Amazon it might be worth rolling the dice on these. You can always give them away at work or Halloween.
@jo2y@mediocrebot I love this implication that Meh t-shirts are the uniform of the Meh staff. And that the girl up front must be a manager because she got the eggplant one.
@audiocontr Speaking of the american dyes? Have you tried the Nkd Doritos and Cheetos? the Nacho cheese Doritos don’t seem to taste as cheesy. I guess those artificial flavors boosted something
@djslack@ironcheftoni I have not BUT i live on the Canadian border. We purposely get the majority of our candies and snacks across the border because they do not allow the same dyes… and heck… taste better. Havnt had a need to purchase dorritos and cheetos stateside in a while.
Off topic, but Canadian peanut butter is SO MUCH BETTER than american. SO MUCH BETTER.

I set out on a short ride, in which I however managed -however managed - (however I managed) to see singularly little either of the geology of the country or of its the inhabitants.— There is little not much cleared land near Valdivia; after crossing a river at the distance of a few miles, we entered the forest, & then only passed one miserable hovel before reaching our sleeping place for the night.— The short difference in latitude of 150 miles has given to the forest, as compared to that of Chiloe, another aspect. @Kyeh@therealjrn That’s very cool and all, but none of that is enigmatic, ungracious, or descriptive of a skunk… Image fail. Cool image fail, mind you, but image fail nonetheless.
Sugar and chemicals… yum? Think it’s not that bad? Look around at the rate of obesity. If you look at a pic from the 60’s (before fast food and sugar addiction) they really weren’t any overweight people in the majority. Now look at a pic from today~ So sugar companies and hydrogenated oil companies don’t mind killing us off as long as they have a healthy bottom line?
Nutrition label mixup - looks like the correct nutrition label for the Sours is the one that is in the third picture of the sequence, and contains that alluring “Cocoa Butter Replacer”. The one that shows up later in the sequence after the front shot of the Sours (13th) looks to be the same label as the Sweets, which has the above-referenced Sucro Esters (E473). Not like anyone is really concerned considering the chemical level of these, but for the record …
@stolicat Sucro Esters was the name of my grandma’s all-grandma Spanish language punk band at the senior center back in the 90s. They went hard (sorry, fue duro) until the bass player broke her hip jumping off the shuffleboard table at their arbor day show in '97.
@troy OK, I’ll put off bedtime to not leave you hanging.
My experience with freeze dried candy is primarily from Skittles. I’ve probably had one or two things from farmer’s markets, but I’ve bought a couple bags of both regular and sour Skittles Pop’d over the past few months - mostly because my local grocery had each on sale for like $2 a bag - I think they’re normally a bit spendy for what they are (those are usually like $7 a bag).
Here I bought the sweet squares and sweet spheres. These have the same appearance and basic texture, but they aren’t Skittles - nor are they alike.
I tried the squares first. They are about half the size by volume of freeze dried Skittles. They are delightfully crunchy, but the flavors are those of more generic candy. Kind of like Runts, maybe. The yellow is candy banana flavor, for example. They also hit first with the sweet more than the flavor, which is not how I remember the Skittles being. Still delightful and hit the candy spot, but I’m not sure I’d seek them out again. The Arabic language packaging is interesting, too.
Then the spheres. These things are big. Like everlasting gobstoppers big - though it’s been years since I’ve had one of those, so that may not be accurate. They still hit first with the sweet, and are every bit as sweet as the squares. But the flavors are higher end flavors. They’re still not the official rainbow. But they’re quite good - the yellow is like Lemonheads, for example. Even more delightful than the squares, and these I’d put nearly on par with freeze dried regular Skittles.
My 4 year old, candy obsessed kid is going to go nuts for both of these. I’ll probably hold onto more of the spheres for myself than the squares.

@ciabelle the spheres, at least, are just regular/sour skittles (generic iirc, but comparable in every way)
edit: or maybe i mean “bites”? i’m not clear on the difference, nor if the squares differ in any way other than shape
@ciabelle Yes, good find! I noticed the same before deciding to bring these in. I wouldn’t say these are as sour as warheads, definitely one step below. My favorite are the Sweet Squares (my only empty bag currently

@ciabelle
@troy- So is there any difference in taste between the different shapes?
@ciabelle @Lynnerizer @troy just their size, I believe. Personally I prefer the smaller ones, since the bigger pieces end up hurting the roof of my mouth more easily.
@ciabelle @nobile @troy

Thanks!
@ciabelle @Lynnerizer @nobile from our specs:
Sweet Squares: Strawberry, Cherry, Banana, Grape, Lime, Orange
Sour Bites, Sour Spheres & Sweet Spheres: Lemon, Orange, Pineapple, Grape, Green Apple, Watermelon
The Sweet Squares Banana tastes like Runts, and the orange like Tic Tacs
@ciabelle @nobile @troy

Ohh yeah… different flavors, how did I not catch that on the 50th time I read it!?
Thanks Troy!
