@Rstoker Yeah I was wondering that myself. The timing of this with that warning is a bit worrysome but I don’t think the all the makers of dark chocolate were included? Or maybe they were just going after the big manufacturers?
I’m a bit leery on food products sold here due to the roulette wheel of “best by dates” but chocolates getting dumped 90ish days after a bunch of news stories about heavy metals in chocolate? Seems risky.
@Rstoker OK so did a quick look. Not all brands have both so this may or may not have any. Consumer Reports are the source of the testing. The article linked here is a brief summary of the findings and some commentary.
@5665150 Later after I posted I did (I wasn’t buying so I didn’t really spend time looking). They pretty much all said if they had been in the heat (shades of bricked candy corn) they were wrecked and tasted terrible with the white stuff chocolate gets from heat, water or freezing.
@Kidsandliz I read that the best reviews to read are 3 stars because you tend to get the most honest responses there. I started doing it, and it seems to be true.
I’m gonna be that person for a moment and ask why everything has to be organic or non-GMO or gluten free or plant-based these days? I get that people with celiac disease and/or gluten allergies DO need gluten-free foods, but if you aren’t celiac, eating gluten-free isn’t doing anything at all for you.
I just want some good old-fashioned dairy-based, sugar-full chocolate.
@PooltoyWolf There’s been a rush to label anything that doesn’t have gluten whether it ever even had it or not. Gluten-free strawberry jam! Gluten-free cheese! Gluten-free bottled water! It’s like when “lo-fat” was all the rage - lo-fat prunes! Lo-fat canned green beans!
@Kyeh@PooltoyWolf Celiac disease can be extremely severe, those folks need to know whether the product was protected against gluten contamination. In factories that handle it it’ll basically always be in the air, no one’s paying out the ass for a separate hermetically sealed assembly line.
If you acknowledge that those of us with allergies and other medical conditions benefit from the explicitly labeling, why do you have to be a fucking asshole and ask why things need to be labeled?
Jesus fucking Christ, it’s minimal impact on you. Get a goddamned life and appreciate that you don’t have to bother. You clearly have zero fucking idea what the fuck you’re talking about. Instead of whining and complaining, at the very least shut the fuck up, but maybe (I know this is a lot to ask of an entitled narcissist) and educate yourself about the myriad hassles and dangers faced by folks who aren’t as lucky as you.
I started a more thorough reply, but 1) you likely won’t comprehend or care anyway and 2) you’re not worth it. Maybe I’ll pick it up again later just for therapy and for others’ benefit.
But I did want you to know that you’re an asshole and you’re welcome to go fuck yourself. The answers you seek are readily and abundantly available—quite unlike consistent allergen labeling or clear and consistent information from manufacturers and distributors. So maybe instead of being a witless wiseass, take some time to find them. I guarantee that it would take less time to get a satisfactory answer to your question than it would to usually still not learn whether a particular product is in fact safe.
Hey look, asshole, it’s not all about you. But do tell us why you feel put out anyway.
@joelmw Wow, does gluten make you a cranky Karen, too, or is that just your natural charm coming through?? But seriously, yes, we all have our crosses to bear, but the complaint isn’t about the availability & accurate labeling of products, it’s the cynical exploitation of these serious, life-altering conditions by corporations to use the health halo effect (look it up if you’re not familiar) to hawk their garbage to people who have NO issues with said conditions. You might want to find yourself a support group…even if you’re not interested in working on your anger issues, they could at least help make it easier for you to find new products that are safe, share tips on coping, etc. Good luck with everything, go in peace.
@bugger@ircon96@joelmw@PooltoyWolf So you know all the people you are mad at are boomers fitting that negative stereotype thus that kind of name calling? Sheesh. It is one thing to be mad about what they are talking about and another to presume they are behaving this way because they are old, thus have all the negative stereotypic connotations associated with the word boomer. I know for sure one of they people you called a boomer is not as he has posted photos of himself.
@PooltoyWolf I like to remind people that the motor oil in my car is organic, and so is the MSG that I put on my food. It can be fun to troll the sheeple who buy into nonsense marketing gimmicks XD
@Nerdelectric Sadly it’s impossible to find organic salt. (Or at least, impossible to find organic sodium chloride. There’s probably a technically-a-salt that’s organic that I don’t know about, and there’s definitely organic not-technically-a-salt “green salt”.)
@ircon96@joelmw@PooltoyWolf My mommy is gluten intolerant. So I hear you. Also I had a friend who had a 10ft steel pole up his ass as well so I know you must be hurting right now. It can be tough when you live in your grandmas basement. Embarrassing, yes but next year you’ll be 40 so that may be your break out year!! We here at MEH are here for you. Just remember, when you jump off the bridge aim for the boulders. Many people survive the drop if you hit water only. (YouTube has videos). You sound like a nice person, what, it, she, he, 3rd stage male or female that you are, is or will be. Remember those tin foil hats don’t work ( wink-wink) or do they?? Go eat some wheat bread & fettuccine Alfredo then go sit in a corner for 2 days in the fetal position shitting your pants. (Send pics). Have a great life, you sound like a real ignorant dick head. I could be wrong. Lol. No I’m not!! Lol you proved it to all of MEH and when I post this all of the internet will know how much of a redneck, special Ed idiot you is.
@bugger@ircon96@joelmw I sincerely hope that diatribe wasn’t directed at me because holy Christ in heaven, that has to be the biggest overreaction to a mild musing I have ever seen. LMAO
@bugger@ircon96@joelmw It’s almost as if these people are deliberately ignoring my exception for celiac disease and just want to be violently angry at something.
@ravenblack Sorry, sodium-chloride CAN’T ever be organic, it doesn’t contain any carbon. On the other hand, MSG (monosodium glutamate) IS an organic salt! It also has 60% less sodium than sodium-chloride by mass.
@ircon96@joelmw@PooltoyWolf Best conversation EVER!!! I know quite a few people with celiac. It’s real but that dudes reaction is off the charts self centered. Grow balls brotha
My wife has forbidden me from buying any more food items from “those stupid sites” as no matter how close or distant the best buy dates, it tastes rancid. Peanut butter kind bars, love corn, eat your coffee bars. Ok those weren’t rancid they just were not great. I recon it is the wharehouse storage temps or lack of airflow due to all the rayon bedding. So considering, I’m afraid I would bin more, than nib more.
I had these when they first came out, they’re actually really good chocolates. I’m not one to eat berry flavored chocolate but the berry ones were pretty good too.
@natekimh Also, don’t do what your intention here is and donate crap that is about to expire, you’re just making them throw it out for you or poisoning desperate people.
@natekimh@Telanis And donating stuff that is no good creates another issue. People only get a box full of stuff and putting that in their box takes up space that something “good” could be put in instead (speaking as someone who is running an informal food bank where I get some of my meds for free).
@troy Dried fruit has moisture in it. That’s why it’s still chewy. “Fruits are dried until they have the desired final moisture content (15% for conventionally dried fruits; 20-25% for osmotically dried (sugar-treated fruits)” - the internet
And you admit meh is trying to sell us crap. I thought you just said it was still good. And it doesn’t seem you understand donating to people in need. Don’t think you have ever done it. And dont get pissed off you started this troll…
I eat one of the tart cherry bars just about every weekday and have for a couple years. So good. And as others have said they’re still pretty good way past the best by date. Can’t beat this price! In for 2.
/giphy lazy-bad-ice
In for cherry + mint. Good dark chocolate, eaten in moderation, really makes you feel better about yourself, and the world. But wouldn’t order this April - October (Florida), lest it come in a misshapen lump. $2 for 3.5oz is a good price; Lindt & Ghirardelli rarely drop below $3 for the same size. Salivating in anticipation…
@troy The real effect is that you sold me no chocolate because I’d have had to take mint in order to get one of the ones I might have wanted. But that’s OK, I’m in a minimal-stuff-acquisition mode at the moment anyway.
In defense of the price, look at all their certifications - including that they are on that relatively small list of slave-free chocolate brands. Not eating chocolate that is produced by slavery and child labor is worth paying more for.

What’s the cadmium and lead content?
@Rstoker Yeah I was wondering that myself. The timing of this with that warning is a bit worrysome but I don’t think the all the makers of dark chocolate were included? Or maybe they were just going after the big manufacturers?
@Kidsandliz @Rstoker +1 to both of your questions.
I’m a bit leery on food products sold here due to the roulette wheel of “best by dates” but chocolates getting dumped 90ish days after a bunch of news stories about heavy metals in chocolate? Seems risky.

So this is berry tart dark liquor?
I notice they are 4+ stars on Amazon with a zillion reviews which is nice to see… This is a lot of chocolate to eat in 3 weeks or less though.
@Kidsandliz did you check the negative reviews? The good reviews are junk. I want to see the dirty underbelly of products.
@5665150 Later after I posted I did (I wasn’t buying so I didn’t really spend time looking). They pretty much all said if they had been in the heat (shades of bricked candy corn) they were wrecked and tasted terrible with the white stuff chocolate gets from heat, water or freezing.

At least these are New In Box, and not refurbs.
@phendrick N.I.B. … makes sense
12 in a bag.
Does that really sound like 4 servings?
NibMor could also be the name of a fountain pen enthusiast club.
@awk These are better the the Nib-No-MOR brand for sure!!

@PooltoyWolf so, your a racist???
@bugger @PooltoyWolf

@PooltoyWolf Amen! Everybody buys into the health halo effect cuz they’re sheeple.

@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf I like that Tito’s Vodka is “gluten free”

@ircon96 @PooltoyWolf agreed. I’m not one of those sheep. Sounds like your not either!!
@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf Celiac disease can be extremely severe, those folks need to know whether the product was protected against gluten contamination. In factories that handle it it’ll basically always be in the air, no one’s paying out the ass for a separate hermetically sealed assembly line.

@joelmw
Lol, someone needs a gluten free snickers.
@bugger @ircon96 @joelmw @PooltoyWolf @SnDMommy The use of boomer is a derogatory, aged based stereotype.

@bugger Fuck off, “brotha”.

No Buh-wain-Oh mee friends
Hmm write up said it was supposed to be $16 for 12 bags. Knowing I’m getting hustled for $2 makes me hesitate mor

@commonhero Nuts? What nuts?
@Achromatter exactly. I thought i had edited my comment to omit the nuts. I guess i am the nutty one.
@Achromatter @commonhero You don’t mean deez nuts, do you?
@commonhero *reckon *warehouse
(Unless you meant to type something about reconnaissance of a whorehouse, in which case… carry on???)
I absolutely love NibMor, has been my go to dark chocolate for years. I have had plenty well past the marked date - still tastes great!
/showme wearisome-sopping-arsenic
In for 36 packs
@troy Arsenic? Hmmm.
@Kyeh @troy Arsenic, Mmm

@Kyeh @robson @troy Notice the bot is suspiciously avoiding any mention of lead & cadmium.
I’ve tried the blueberry variety before and they are delicious. Nice dark chocolate taste without the bitter aftertaste.
I had these when they first came out, they’re actually really good chocolates. I’m not one to eat berry flavored chocolate but the berry ones were pretty good too.

Which flavor I wouldn’t have bought. Ugh.
Way too close to outdate. Donate it to food cupboard instead
@natekimh
You underestimate how fast some people can consume chocolate!
@natekimh It’s dried fruit in dry chocolate man, these will last years past the Best By date unless you store them in the sun.
@natekimh Also, don’t do what your intention here is and donate crap that is about to expire, you’re just making them throw it out for you or poisoning desperate people.
@natekimh Or just throw it in the freezer and it will last forever.

@natekimh Damn man, why do you hate people who are struggling so much?
@ohhwell TROLL ALERT
@natekimh @Telanis won’t fruit make them mold up?
@laurengx3 it’s dried fruit – moisture is what promotes mold
@troy Dried fruit has moisture in it. That’s why it’s still chewy. “Fruits are dried until they have the desired final moisture content (15% for conventionally dried fruits; 20-25% for osmotically dried (sugar-treated fruits)” - the internet

@MrNews $1.50 per 3.5oz! Hence why I bought 36 bags
@troy I include shipping in my bottom-line cost, as I rarely place more than 3-4 Meh orders a year…
Yeesh.
How are they out of the blueberry and cherry flavor combo, but you can still buy each flavor with mint?
@geshaghi Simple… we have the majority of our quantity in mint and are forcing you into it
@troy The real effect is that you sold me no chocolate because I’d have had to take mint in order to get one of the ones I might have wanted. But that’s OK, I’m in a minimal-stuff-acquisition mode at the moment anyway.

Got mine today. Whole family approved. Unfortunately timed with news on lead in dark chocolate but we got over that after a brief mention.
