I know these don’t actually do anything apparently, but I do leather working and I might sew these into wallets I make. It could be a small selling point for those that think it will give them an extra level of protection. Can’t hurt, lol!
If your phone has an NFC chip (for “tap and pay”), then your phone (with an NFC reader app) can also read your credit cards that also have an NFC chip in them for that same “tap and pay” ability. All they can read is the same info on the front – the card number, name, and expiration.
Before people get worried, NFC payments are secure. The chip reads and sends signals and talks to the payment terminal. When they send transaction payment info, it is encrypted and uses one-time use encryption keys. By design, they have a limited power and signal range of only a few inches at most.
That said, criminals (mostly in Europe in high-density traffic tourist areas) have been known to use readers to “bump read” cards. You are probably more likely to win the lottery than be subject to someone wanting to read your cards and being able to get that close to you without getting noticed.

Are there enough of these to put together a cap?
Asking for a friend.
