10-26-17 Bloody Nails
8I used to bite my nails really bad to the point they hurt and bled. It was ridiculously hard for me to stop. I remember wearing acrylic nails for months to try and quit. Within a few days of taking them off, my nails were chewed off once again in a few anxious minutes of watching a horror movie. Years later I had enough. I went and bought a bunch of packs of glue on nails at the dollar tree and for the next few weeks I would change them out every 1-3 days depending on how bad I picked at them. It was a pain because I had to cut them really short since I didn’t know how to function with nails. When my nails were no longer painful stumps, I started painting them instead. Seeing as I still had the horrible urge to chew on them, I would sometimes paint them every single day. I started doing nail art and since that added even more time to my routine, I felt less compelled to bite. It’s probably been around seven or eight years now, and I still get that annoying urge if I don’t wear nailpolish and I get a little snag. I carry a nail file around now so I can deal with it.
I’ve probably taken a year hiatus from painting my nails and just started again about a month ago. I’m completely out of practice but I wanted to do some Halloween nails.
Hopefully my job doesn’t care that I have a crime scene on my nails.

Please excuse the awkward hand pose. Ever since I broke two fingers, they just don’t cooperate.
I gave up on my nails (other than clean and not ragged) decades ago.
I admire it when people can do this.
@f00l these are easy. I literally just painted polish onto a paper plate, stuck my finger in it, pressed once onto the plate, and then onto the opposing finger. Then I blobbed some polish with the brush for the bigger blood spots.
@mfladd
When you posted Bloody Nails, I pictured something entirely different.
And wow, that band is really different. I like the interesting mix of instruments, it really creates an amazing sound. Metal can be anything and anything can be metal.
This band is from Los Angeles. Do you recognize the singer?
Wicked Wisdom - Bleed All Over Me
@2many2no had absolutely no idea she started a band.
Ouch - a little sympathy here.
I stepped on a board with 2 nails in it yesterday. Took 2 guys to pull the board out. I finished work with the bloody sock shuffle before going to the ED.
Uuuuuuummmm…
nuf said.
@mfladd a little too extreme, my nails would probably bend or break before I drew blood, lol
My Halloween nails are a bit more understated.
@CaptAmehrican is that your evil castle plate?
This is the evil castle plate. I am using parts of it but wimstonia w116 mainly. I didn’t like the bundle monster plates as much as the polish
@CaptAmehrican I like the plates but they really did cram everything in there a little too close for my tastes.
@RiotDemon @CaptAmehrican The size of some of the pictures has me wondering how they are supposed to be used on fingernails. I will have to watch some how to videos. I have not had a chance to experiment with mine. Maybe this weekend will happen.
I have not painted my nails in years. They break and crack easy. They also are not a nice flowing canvas. My nails grow weird. I have been being very careful recently and have a little bit of growth now.
Any expert recommendations for a newbie on what I need besides the pretty purple polish I got?
@speediedelivery the big images aren’t practical for nails, but you can use them for other things like scrap booking or greeting cards. They actually sell giant stampers for the big images.
If your nails have ridges, you can actually get a ridge filling base coat. It has something in it that settles in the lower spots to help even them out.
A good top coat. Those will help smooth everything at the end. Most people will suggest Seche Vite. It definitely dries fast, but it has some drawbacks like making certain polishes shrink. It tends to make some of my polish peel off in a giant sheet. I’m currently trying out one that I bought at Wal-Mart that comes in a 2.5oz bottle. I think it might be called salon pro or something to that effect. I’ll have to check later. So far I’m happy with it.
I’m sure I have more info for you, but it’ll have to wait.
Do you have any specific questions?
@RiotDemon I will have many questions and four letter words when I open the bottle. I will browse for top coat when I get out later today or more likely in the morning.
@speediedelivery my favorite polishes are China Glaze. Easily found if you have a Sally beauty supply.
You’ll need some kind of base coat for that purple.
@speediedelivery i like sally hansen insta dry. You can generally find it cheaper at say cvs or walgreens but here is a link.
I also like the insta dry colors as i am impatient and they both go on well and dry fast and work in stamps. However some people do not like them as the brush is wider then average.

@speediedelivery here is the top coat that I’m currently testing. It’s $5 for the 2.5oz bottle at Wal-Mart. Super cheap.
When I paint my nails, I do it while watching tv before bed. I try to give myself an hour of dry time before crawling into bed.
If I absolutely need to have my nails done in no time, I’ll use the Seche Vite brand. It’s around $8 for .5oz. That stuff dries polish in 5-10 minutes it seems.
I did read a review of the top coat that said you have to be careful about bubbles, so don’t shake the bottle before applying. I don’t normally shake top coat unless it’s been sitting a while. I’ll shake it and then let it settle back down before I use it.
Fyi for 3rd set got white polish and a second zombie plate. But given sets were basically price of a polish I am happy with all 3 .
@CaptAmehrican do you want to trade the zombie plate for an Egyptian/mummy plate?
@RiotDemon sure. Not sure however how to trade email addys so can trade real address.
@CaptAmehrican my email is this username at the Google mail.
I actually free handed some graveyard nails before I did these bloody ones. It just reminded me of how terrible I am at free hand art. Didn’t help that my acrylic paint was really thin. Should of attempted it with polish instead. Oh well.
