10-14-17 Annoying Day
14Today was turning out to be a great day. Hung out at the beach until 4am with my partner. Going to a Halloween party at night. Really excited.
While helping set up for the party, I decided to break my toe by jamming my foot into a piece of furniture.
I’ve been hobbling around for the last 6 hours with my toes taped together. What’s the point of going to the hospital when they are just going to tape them together for me?
Hopefully trying to wear sneakers at work tomorrow isn’t terrible.
Tonight’s musical selection is:
A-ha
Being Norwegian, I extra appreciate this song. I love the video.

I love how it randomly added a smiley as the topic bubble. I’m leaving it.
@RiotDemon I broke a toe once and didnt believe my friends when they said “all they are going to do is tape them together”
I went to the ER all they did was tape them together.
Shit.
@RiotDemon /Image doesn’t always have the right answers.

@therealjrn haha, right?
If I can’t walk tomorrow, maybe I’d go in, but it doesn’t feel as bad since the toe is back where it normally is. There’s a ton of bruising behind my toes, so I’m wondering if I actually broke it behind the toe instead, because I can sort of move the toe. I’ll find out in a few hours.
@RiotDemon I think they gave me a “special” wooden sandle that helped with not flexing the toes…I only wore it about half a day.
I’m not much of a pill hound…maybe I got a few “good” painkillers…
All told, without insurance it would have not been worth the trip.
But maybe, because there are so many little bones up in your foot…might be ok to have them take a look.
That was unexpected. I remember this song well, but I would never of realized how big this band was (is) if I had not read the Wikipedia article. Great video, too.
Staying in the past, from New York City:

@2many2no I’ve known of Dust for a long time, but never listened to / looked into them, but…
Marky Ramone was in Dust? G.T.F.O.
@2many2no I know it doesn’t really fit the theme of Rocktober, but the song holds a special place in my heart. I think Leo did a metal cover of it… Let’s see.

Yep. I remember it now. Love this cover.
@2many2no dust sounds oddly familiar.
@hems79 I don’t think he took that stage name until later, but everyone starts somewhere.
@RiotDemon The best cover bands keep the song recognizable, but make it their own.
Here’s a duck to cheer you up!
@jbartus That is exactly how you have to walk with a metatarsal sandle.
Sorry to hear you broke your toe. I have broken 4 of them so far (chair, vacuum cleaner, door frame, steps in house). One of the times (broken at the base actually technically I guess my foot) I was given one of those shoes to wear and while awkward, I found it better to wear that than any shoe I owned. Unfortunately it takes a while for bones to heal. Hope it isn’t too painful when you walk - that is the stupid part - it’s only a toe and then it hurts so much when you have to walk. The acute ache doesn’t last all that long; the bruising and swelling will likely get worse before it gets better. Ice (I bought two of those blue things with gel in them) really does help both with keeping down the swelling - which helps reduce the pain - and slow down the bruising.
Been there done that… if ya put something between your toes, they wont heal stuck together.
@chickenherpe thanks. My toes already are curved together to begin with, so I think I’m ok.
Hmmm, I know I share too much on these forums, but here’s a medical one for you: One night, just before bed, I discovered that my left elbow was all swollen; although not painful it was weirdly squishy. I decided to take some aspirin, go to bed, and hope it would be better in the morning.
It wasn’t, and I mentioned it to the female of the species who freaked out and told me I should go to the emergency room. I decided to get a second opinion, so I asked my mother who said it sounded serious and I should call the doctor.
Times having changed a bit from when my mother did most of HER doctor-calling I figured THAT couldn’t hurt, since anytime I call the doctor I’m told that the next available appointment is the last Thursday in November at 4:30 in the afternoon, otherwise nothing until the morning of December 25th. But THIS time the doctor said she could see me RIGHT AWAY!!! I ZOOMED over there, and was told that it was a “benign bursitis” and would have to be drained, but she didn’t do that kind of thing; she referred me to an orthopedist.
Well WOW, that orthopedist could see me right away too! I went right over and explained that it was a benign bursitis, but was told they would be the judge of that and was given an X-ray and some tests. Afterwards the orthopedist came in and said, "What you have is a benign bursitis. We COULD aspirate it, but it will probably come right back. The only way to be sure it will not is to remove the bursa sac."
I was slightly freaked out and said, “You mean SURGERY?!?” The doctor simply shrugged and said "Well, we COULD do NOTHING."
Now, he did not say what the CONSEQUENCES of doing nothing would be, and I guess I should of asked, but I was out of my depth, so I said to just go ahead with what the GP had recommended and ‘aspirate’ it.
This was done, but the following day the elbow had indeed swollen again. I was sure the orthopedist must have said SOMETHING about what to do in that case, but I couldn’t remember being told anything, so I looked it up online, and found the Mayo clinic website - which said a benign bursitis is nothing to worry about, just take aspirin and apply cold compresses, and it should go away on it’s own.
So I did, and it did.
