Darkness Falls

Welp, everyone. The fun’s over. Throw out the wrapping paper, choke down the leftover eggnog and cookies, get some bubbly on ice for next week, and then, be prepared for the full-blown darkness and depravity of winter.

And you know what sucks the most about the colder months? When you have to attend to something outside. Like swap out some wiper blades on your car, or put in a headlight bulb, or do any number of things automotive related or not that are easy enough on a mild fall day, but get a lot harder when you get gloves involved. It’s annoying enough in broad daylight, but it becomes near impossible when the sun goes down and it gets even colder. Not to mention, you know, the lighting issue.

But these things can help. No, they won’t warm your hands, but they will provide a bit of light to get your work done. And if you get a little hot when camping, you can turn on the fan to cool you off. Plus, they have magnets and hooks, so you can attach them or hang them wherever you need for a bit of hands-free illumination. That way, you can get the job done as quickly as possible and then get your numb fingers inside to warm up.

Oh, and each one has a built-in power bank! 4000mAh, so not enough for much more than a recharge, but good in a pinch.

We usually make fun of products that randomly incorporate a bluetooth speaker or a power bank. But this isn’t one of those. Because, think about it: aside from the occasional outdoor chore you need to take care of in the nighttime, when are you most likely to use one of these? During a power outage. So, it makes sense that this thing would also charge your phone in case you need to make an emergency call or watch some emergency cat videos before bed.

In other words, it’s not the same thing as slapping a charging pad onto a knock-off Keurig. (Though we’re certainly not above selling such a thing.)

Now, we know what you’re thinking. Two lanterns to provide some light during an outage or help you more efficiently perform some grueling task outside? That’s not a very exciting thing to spend your new holiday cash on, is it? And we get that.

But also, as we said in the beginning: the fun’s over. So buy these and get ready for a long winter.
