We know, we know, "you don't have a landline phone."

How do you know when someone doesn’t have a landline phone? They tell you. It’s like those cord-cutters who take every chance to tell you they’ve ditched TV, then demand that you say nothing about Better Call Saul until it shows up on Hulu. It’s not enough to be content that they’ve made the right choice for themselves. They have to let everyone know, and why, in tones marbled with pity and contempt for the backward buggywhippers who cling to their cables.

Never mind that a little redundancy can come in handy when you need to make an emergency call. Or that some of us have crappy or nonexistent mobile service in some parts of our houses. Or that landline service is often tossed in for a pittance in cable-and-Internet packages, and so can be cheaper than mobile if you make a lot of local calls during daytime hours. They paint not having a landline phone as both a cutting-edge innovation and the only choice sensible people could possibly make, even though the statistics (there’s no landline in 41% of U.S. households) prove them exactly wrong on both counts.

But if you’re one of the other 59% of Americans who have a landline phone, this Panasonic 2-Handset System is the one to have: solid, clear, good range, some nifty features without getting too complicated about it. And here we have it for 25 bucks. The next time some dimestore Buckminster Fuller scoffs incredulously at the very idea of a landline phone, you can thank him for making this one so cheap. Then use your Panasonic phone to talk to somebody else who understands how to mind his own business.
