Beyond The Beef

What would you do with a dehydrator?

This is a question I asked myself as I sat down to write copy for this thing. The answer: I’d probably try to make some jerky, maybe some kale chips. That’s about all I thought it would be good for.

Now, just to be clear, it would be good for that. And if that’s all it did, it would still be cool. But, after watching this video, I realized it’s actually much more useful.

First of all, I’m loving the general vibe here. Something about the quality of the footage really brings me back to those childhood mornings when I would get up super early, try and turn on Cartoon Network, and find myself at the tail end of an infomercial that seemingly had been going on all night. Even the product looks like they haven’t updated its design in roughly thirty years. (Which I don’t mean as an insult, btw; it’s honestly kind of embarrassing when some company puts out a toaster oven with a touch-screen and a built-in digital assistant.)

More importantly, though, I’m loving the ideas. Spreading on some apple sauce to the fruit tray to make a chew? That’s dope! And then, pouring a bunch of tomato sauce onto one of the trays? Like, at first I thought, Did they just hire a stoned person and say, ‘Go nuts!’ but actually it makes sense. Like, I freeze my extra tomato sauce, but then, if there’s a power outage, it all goes to waste. So dehydrating it would be much better. And then the point about preparing stuff to take camping? Just great!

In conclusion, there is more you can do with this thing beyond making kale chips and jerky.

But also, here is a video of a person using this thing to make some jerky.
