“Denial: overridden,” said the computer voice.
“You fools! You think I didn’t account for your security protocols?” Cork Muldoon laughed which, to the humans, sounded not unlike guitar feedback. They cupped their ears as he floated by them. “The pyrotechnics display should be exquisite. Shame you won’t be able to see it. You know, from inside. Because you’ll be in the ship. The one that’s going to explode.”
“We fucking get it, you loser,” Laney said.
Just then Cork Muldoon halted. The humans cowered, worried he might come back and threaten them further. But he seemed to be squinting down the corridor, towards the docking area.
“No,” he said. “It… it… it can’t be.”
Another alien came into view. One that looked exactly like him.
“That’s right,” said the alien. “It’s me. And I’m here to take you in… brother.”
