“Up there?” Jane said.
“In space.” The janitor seemed confused and angry. He’d long since stopped his work, and a pool formed around his mop’s braided end on the tile. “Y’all launched off, what, two hours ago, and you’re already back?”
A bolt of terror shot through Jane’s spine. “What? You mean they launched the mission? Without me?”
“Without you?” the janitor said. “What are you talkin’bout? I seen you come in myself! And here’s I thought we were turning a corner because you actually said hi to me.”
