Actually had a tough time between the stars vs the tent. But gotta plan for rain, right? Speaking of which, hey meh! When are you gonna sell a tent? And not one of those 2 person garbage ones but a real 6-8 person tent?
@someguynamedmat I just got one of those hammocks with the mosquito netting and rain fly for my grandson. I really kinda want one for myself now. I wish I knew how comfortable it would be to sleep in, then I could have the best of both worlds.
@mehbee I was responding to @someguynamedmat’s assertion that 2p tents are ‘garbage’, because one needs to go larger rather than smaller. I hadn’t seen your post. That sounds quite nice!
@melonscoop - Oooh, so close! There should be some urls listed on the right - choose ‘direct link’ and paste it here.
The link needs to end with .jpg or .png or .gif I think.
@melonscoop I had a used hilo mojo (larger teardrop that had a hinged roof) but had to sell it to make ends meet) . Loved that thing. Pull in to a Pilot or Love’s and you could sleep in it without raising the roof or unhooking and then go on your way. At a campground it was perfect - like a big tent but not so big backing it up was not a pain and I could shove it around myself. You can see a sales brochure here: http://camping-trailers.com/HiloMojo.htm
@Veloslave Shoot queen size is the only way to go…if I didn’t need floor space to change I’d look for a king…not that I’ve seen one. I love camping but I’m at the point where I need a few bits of comfort as I’m doing it.
@mehbee Picture of my rig is down below… 23’ 5th wheel, fully self enclosed, central heating, AC, big bathroom with a nice hot shower, large frig & freezer (gotta keep your Lagunitas and Three twins or Breyers cold) bought it used, cherry from first owner with Generator and solar charging and hitch for $3200… that is super cheap, it is super easy to get into RV camping.
@mehbee it was a super clearance score at Target for $98 i believe. They still carry them online for a bit more ($233). I’m on mobile so I can’t get a link to the non-mobile site, but searching for “Serta EZ bed” will get you there.
After having it, I’d say it’s worth the full price if you have the need. The duffel bag it folds up into is a bit large (a squeeze to fit into the back seat of my small car) but has wheels and a handle and the inflate/deflate pump is built in. Also has adjustable firmness settings and will keep itself inflated to your liking.
@Al_Coholic Trouble with an air mattress is that it doesn’t insulate from the cold all that well. You will need blankets as padding if it gets cold enough or a closed foam cell pad or something otherwise you will get cold from the air mattress.
Our rig at one of our favorite sites… right on the water, we feed the ducks, the trout feed us.
Sometimes the beauty of camping is crawling out of bed and moving a few feet away to use your own enclosed bathroom and noticing that the wife turned on the heater and has the coffee started.
I don’t mind tent camping but would like one of those tiny trailers. Got some good links from that other thread, just need to see what works with my car.
Closest I want to come to camping is when I was in school, and for band camp, we rented the “local” 4-H camp for a week. Bunk houses with diuble stacked bunks. Slept around 22ish?.. Think a rustic version of the dorms on “OITNB” , but out in the woods
Tent with an air mattress is good during the winter. Ground is too hard for my back. No way would I go camping in the summer unless it was in a trailer thing with a.c. Florida is too damn hot.
Camping for us was the most fun traveling on our Goldwing pulling a tent trailer all over the northwest. What beautiful memories we have from that period in our lives. Now we are relegated to a small handicap equipped motorhome. Still loving it.
As a kid growing up we camped first in the station wagon (3 kids, 2 adults, a crazy bunk thing where the parents were on the bottom and if they had their knees up you’d have them in your back, one kid on the front seat. Then they got a tiny apache tent top trailer where the “don’t touch the canvas” was the constant warning in the rain. As a kid I thought it was a blast. One month every summer (dad was a minister and if we didn’t leave town he wouldn’t get a vacation as people would call - pre cell phone days, don’t know what he’d do now) all over the USA. Rode out the tail end of a hurricane on the outer banks in NC on top of a high sand cliff. This was pre everyone evacuate the sky is falling days - trailer was bouncing up and down and back and forth a the same time, garbage cans flying through the air, windblown, pelting rain felt like knives being thrown at you (wind was 72 mph). We packed it up at 4am and waited it out in a ihop freezing our soaking wet selves in their A/C. All the snaps pulled out. Mom had this bright idea of pop pull top things as a replacement so we all spend an afternoon sewing them on (that worked). Ha! They had to buy so much pop we had our fill and then some. Lots of good memories. Took my kid camping in 6 person tent. Moose pee’d on it in Yellowstone with us in it LOL. Lots of adventures.

@someguynamedmat Two person!? Way too heavy.
@brhfl I think they are individual. That’s why I hadn’t bought one yet, but I could use it the times my husband can’t come with me.
@mehbee I was responding to @someguynamedmat’s assertion that 2p tents are ‘garbage’, because one needs to go larger rather than smaller. I hadn’t seen your post. That sounds quite nice!
@brhfl oh sorry…lol…yea it sounds very peaceful and relaxing to me.
@mehbee YES - Hammocks in a tree is how I camp!
@Rakaim It’s definitely on my list to try. It sounds amazingly peaceful.
I shall use this lantern in my teardrop trailer. A trailer I would post pictures of, if I knew how to post pictures on this forum.
@melonscoop I’m gonna build one of those when I retire, if only to prove that I can
/image teardrop trailer
@melonscoop You have one of those? They are so cool and cute.
@melonscoop - Drag your picture into imgur.com, upload it, copy the direct link (url) they provide, and paste it here in the forum.
@melonscoop
@brhfl I wish I had that fancy menu bar! I’ve only ever visited Meh on my phone. There’s a bare box with just one option button - “Say it.”
@KDemo Alright, here goes:

@melonscoop Oh, well that does introduce some complications!
ETA: very cute trailer!
@melonscoop That’s neat!

@melonscoop
Let’s see if this works.
@melonscoop it you rotate the phone, that fancy bar shows up. I just learned that last week.
@RiotDemon Awesome, thanks! Now I can throw out my Surface Pro 3.
@RiotDemon mind blown

Right now I go with sleeping bag in a tent, but as I get older and fatter I lean more toward the air mattress side of things.
@Al_Coholic I graduated to an air mattress quite awhile ago. They’re pretty comfortable.
@mehbee We graduated past the deluxe super thick double wide Thermorest a long time ago… now we tow a real queen size

@Veloslave I’d be I heaven! And that spot you showed, gorgeous! You’re living the dream…lol…my dream anyway.
@Al_Coholic Got one of these, never looked back:
Queen size. Pretty much fills up the tent. It actually stays set up in our guest bedroom when we’re not camping.
@djslack Where did you get that?

Camping is when the power goes out and I have to use a flashlight to get to the bathroom.
Marriotts Residence Inn.
Camping in a hammock under the stars is the best option for sure. Bring a sleeping bag if it’s cold and a tarp if you’re concerned about the rain.
@Unicorn_King What about bugs? :S
@Al_Coholic You can get them with mosquito netting…and a rain fly. Everything you need to sleep out under the stars.
Our rig at one of our favorite sites… right on the water, we feed the ducks, the trout feed us.

@Veloslave What a gorgeous spot!
@mehbee Thanks, The view from the trailer out the window is 100X better!
Not a big camper, but on those rare occasions, anything more than tent and sleeping bag feels like you may as well stay at home.
I can’t get comfortable sleeping on the ground, with just a sleeping bag. I have to have an air mattress.
Sleeping in an RV isn’t camping.
The best camping is sleeping on a boat
@CaptAmehrican Yes when I worked on tall ships it was lovely. Well except in storms, then staying still in bed could be rough at times.
I don’t mind tent camping but would like one of those tiny trailers. Got some good links from that other thread, just need to see what works with my car.
@mcanavino What thread??
@mehbee I can’t seem to find it at the moment, but people shared some good links for tiny trailers that my Elantra could possibly pull.
@mcanavino I have a look and see if I can find it. Thanks for looking for me.
A four star resort in the mountains.

@RiotDemon So is Georgia although I can be talked into it. Love Spring and Fall camping and have even enjoyed winter camping…once
My idea of camping out: slow room service!
