@PocketBrain Hmm… there might just be a market for anti-drone strategic attack goats! Anyone want to invest in the next big government defense contract company?
I’m quite adept. I’ve got a dozen or so of the ‘toy class’ drones, ranging in size from the DHD D1 (about the width of a quarter) to the Syma X5SW (dinner plate size). I lack the funds or level of interest to get into the seriously expensive video drones from DJI and the like, but flying the little ones is loads of fun. I started on a Syma X5C way back in like 2014 (which I still have) and from there became very good at controlling them. My current favorite is the Syma X20-S, which has a Wii Nunchuk-like transmitter that you use to control the drone’s movements by tilting the controller around. It’s deceptively simple!
I have a $25 one (sale price) that I practiced on once and it only went into my neighbor’s back yard once. They were on the deck and kindly let me retrieve it. I need more practice. Another neighbor in his 30s, more of the drone flying demographic than I at 76, has a good one (I know that because it is a DJI and he has insurance on it!) took a good neighborhood aerial. Then two days ago he said to tell him if it falls out of my tree where it is at least 40 ft off the ground. Today’s predicted snow storm may deliver it for him.
@RiotDemon Are you watching my house? It was probably 60 ft off the ground, not 40, and the fire department said it could not do it because of the wires. But this morning my wife saw someone climbing the adjacent tree. He had a rigging belt and a rope. He climbed from that tree to the one with the drone and I was too worried to watch, but he got the drone and got down from the tree by trying, not falling. So, it is a happy ending. There is no way I would have the courage, skill or muscle (even though I bike) (or equipment) to climb that high, especially in a tree!
Since the only drones I have ever tried to fly were the shitty ones I bought from meh-my confidence and interest to any drones (even better ones) has been shattered.
I bought the Vistatech from a few days ago and will give it a shot this afternoon. The remote seems to be a clone( ish) like a PlayStation controller. Withit being a beginner drone I’m hopeful it won’t end up in a tree or worse! I think that’s the mistake most people make. It looks like a video game controller so let’s blow 300-500 on it. You can’t respawn or reset after a hard crash!
Most of my drones that are still in perfect flying order are also still in their originally sealed boxes.

My wife drones on and on when I drive. Does that count?
@hchavers Naw, that’s just standard; comes included as a special “feature”.
If I get a better camera, it will reveal how terrible I still am, but with the cruddy Meh camera drone I have, it seems like I have this down.
I haven’t lost one yet. I can even find the video a friend sent me of his getting lost.
I am very good but that is because you get a nice training course when Mohammad sells you a G.A. MQ-1.
I have the skill to get them back if my neighbors let me. Sometimes they still work.

@andyw did you get it for him?

I fly model rockets. There’s only one button to press.
