You-kai AMA
1SO I wanted to do a long post about the different types of You-kai after @kyeh gave a seed of an idea, BUT after trying to sit down and write this article about 5 times and not being satisfied at all with my writing, I decided to do something a bit different. YOU ask the question, and I provide the answers. It is much shorter and more time efficient for me due to the fact that my time is limited these days. (To much schoolwork)

(NOTE: Any questions asked about Yo-kai Watch will be tolerated and praised. But still. This is “educational”)

Hello,
How are you? I had heard my mom talk about Yo-Kai since I was a child. She believes in it. How real is it? I’ve seen the cartoon with my kids, btw. What I am curious about is what happens when you are followed by one and or possessed by it? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am doing good, thank you. Well, the cartoon (Also the video games) are based on existing You-kai, like Jibanyan is a Neko-matata (cat spirit) and Noway is based on a Nurikabe (Basically a living wall). If you want too ask about a specific type, just ask : )
And there are different types of possession, but they are more severe then in the ones in Yo-kai Watch. The two main culprits are Kitsune and Tanuki.
Anything else?

@aetris Yes, and?
I see Neko-Matas. You want info?
@aetris That’s a great picture!
@Wollyhop Info please!
@aetris Okay!
SO a Neko-Mata is the You-kai of a cat. They have two tails and have all sorts of powers. They used to eat humans, but have softened up over the years. The Maneki-neko is based off of them, and is said to bring good luck and fortune to those who have them.
Q: If you were to write an article about You-kai, what would you write?
@therealjrn
I would start with an intro, then break down some of the more famous types of You-kai.
This one hung in my grandmother’s house for decades:
