Yesterday was the birthday of the Internet, no big deal
4It's notable that I heard from multiple sources (and we celebrated it at least as much as was proper, probably more so, here) that yesterday was "National Cat Day" (whatever the fuck that even means). @bluedyn even tried to shame us for not starting our celebration earlier in the day (https://meh.com/forum/topics/weve-failed-as-internetizens-today), but it wasn't until this morning that I found out that the Internet started 45 years ago yesterday.
Ironic. I think we owe someone an apology, yaknow, for what we've done to the Internet. I'm looking at you, cat video people (among others).
This is all @Thumperchick's fault. Oh, and I think that @bluedyn is making a subtle play to be November's goat.
Maybe our belated celebration should cite some of what's most meh or just plain awful about the Internet. You know, like cat videos.

Pfft.
@bluedyn That makes way more sense than it should. :-D
@bluedyn I wanted to make a joke about catgut, but this is the best I could come up with.
Those were the first packets sent on ARPANET, which was officially shut down almost 25 years ago.
@nadroj So maybe I should have said the Internet's mother? Either way, I'm sticking to my story. Because this is the Internet, and that's how we do.
Maybe we can get Hyram to sing this to celebrate.
(not mine, but topical)
A host is a host,
From coast to coast
And nobody talks to a host that's close,
Unless the host that isn't close
Is busy, hung, or dead.
If you'd like to read about the birth of the Internet, the very best book is "Where Wizards Stay Up Late". I highly recommend it.
