@UncleVinny i am about the same but more on the side of couldn’t choke either down. All the rest I can eat (even “shadow-crave” a couple) but not these two.
When will Meh get around to multi-option selection polls?
/giphy i’m waiting
@InnocuousFarmer - That’s the texture, all right - a sort of fossilized-sponge mouthfeel with a weird flavor, not sure WHAT it’s supposed to be. They are to peanuts what candy corn is to corn.
@regnowsin Have you tried chocolate bit-o-honey? I recently found that and a chocolate version of caramel creams (which I love) and tried both. They were really good. Of course probably not better than the original, but really good.
@thismyusername Agree - you’re both better at it than me. I was going to go with “Pour some sugar on me” but then I found the other one. Bad decisions on my part.
I dislike most of that list (for some reason I like candy hearts), but black licorice is on its own level of ‘nope’. I actually shuddered when I saw it on the list. I would rather eat about seven pounds of candy corn than a piece of black licorice. The fact that it’s classed as a candy is an affront to the idea of candy.
@sammydog01 I’m right there with ya except candy corn, too sweet. So I don’t hate it but I don’t love it either. Black licorice would be second to last but it has its good points. Every other one on that list are like little bites of sugary temptations created to lure me straight to a life full of cavities and stretch pants smiling the entire way!!
“PICK WHICH ONES APPLY”! Man you really need to give us that option! Pretty Pretty Please? That and “NONE OF THE ABOVE” It would be so much easier than: I really dislike 4) or d) black licorice, 5) or e) candy corn and 7) or g) peeps.
/image Peeps are bad
@WTFsunshine I don’t believe I’ve ever met anyone who actually likes black licorice. I don’t even like it when they use star anise in my pho because it reminds me of that vile black goo.
@ImTheDoctor@mehbee, ok, you guys are just messing with me now. Especially @ImTheDoctor. I mean, how can you even put licorice in the same sentence as really good chocolate?
@ruouttaurmind My Daddy use to chew Beemans black licorice gum and I use to buy it for him but they’ve discontinued the product. He became a smoker during Vietnam and when he met my Mom he continued to smoke. When she became pregnant with my sister he switched to the gum to help him stop. I asked him why that kind of flavor of gum and he said when he was young it was one of the few things that he could afford to buy. So he replaced what he did with something else that he liked so that he could continue not to smoke. Love my Daddy! But licorice - uh - no.
@WTFsunshine Black Jack gum! I maybe am making this up, but I seem to recall seeing Black Jack in the little shop at the front of Cracker Barrel restaurants. They have a reasonable selection of vintage confections if you’re into that sort of thing (I am). Black Jack is most definitely anis (black licorice) flavoured.
@ruouttaurmind No, you’re not making it up, they still make it. I used to go to the mall to a shop where they sold candy from back in the day. Since I don’t go out anymore I shop online and go to either oldtimecandy.com or candy favorites.com. There was one other I use to go to but their shipping costs became way too high. I think there’s a Cracker Barrel at most on/off ramps along highways and we have one in our county but I haven’t been there in a long time. Use to like browsing through their shops.
@ruouttaurmind I always buy weird stuff when I see it, so one day I happened upon these in a gas station on a road trip:
They were so vintage looking I couldn’t resist. They seem similar to Parma violets but larger and square. They tasted like sucking on my grandma’s perfume.
Plus, if you zoom in, you’ll find some fun facts.
Isn’t sugar plus invert sugar like mixing matter and antimatter?
Artificial flavor. So some food scientist sat in a lab coming up with a way to make fake old lady taste?
@ruouttaurmind Yes. There’s a gas station right off the interstate in Lecompte, LA that had them. (In case you’re ever that way.) According to the wrapper, they are from New York state.
It’s always good to make your dogs think you’re a little crazy.
@djslack I noticed the NY mfg when I zoomed in on the label. We used to see them in the corner shop near my girl’s parents house in Dorset. I guess I assumed they were just another funky British thing since I never encountered them in the states.
@2many2no Well, I certainly haven’t run across those interesting flavors, but I must say I absolutely detest buttered popcorn flavored Jelly Belly. Gag-worthy.
@heartny Buttered popcorn are probably my favorite!
There’s a little popcorn and candy store here that has jars of single flavors of Jelly Belly you buy by the pound. Back around Christmas I bought eggnog, draft beer, and Tabasco flavors.
@2many2no one skunk jellybean will put you off that game forever.
I like them all but I only eat Black Licorice and Candy Corn on a semi-occasional basis, usually as the result of others rejecting them. My wife LOVES Violet and Rose candies – we even have syrups to flavor various beverages like 7-Up.
Chick O Stick tastes like Butterfinger without the chocolate.
@AdmiralDave When I was a kid, my mom had a little tin of rose pastilles with anise seeds in the middle that she’d bought in England. We got to have one every now and then as a special treat. I haven’t thought about them in years.
Circus peanuts are disgusting, taste, texture, smell, gag me!
I always bought Neccos or Bit-o-Honey at the movies.
Peeps are cute but gross.
Orange slices are good.
Anything lime, no, except in liquid form, no salt.
Most all of it is too sweet, give me a cookie.
I really like GOOD black licorice.
Forget it all, give me fruit.
@mollama and i’m right
"Ingredients: Sugar, Corn Syrup, Gelatin, Pectin, Artificial Flavor, Color Added (Includes Yellow 6, Yellow 5, Red 40)."
"Allergen Statement: This product does not contain peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, soy, wheat or gluten. It has been manufactured on dedicated equipment." www.spanglercandy.com/candy-store/bulk-circus-peanuts
I love black licorice, and really just about anything in that family of flavors. Except for that salted Scandinavian stuff. What the entire hell is the idea with that crap?
Really, the worst for me is lime- or cola-flavored candies. I don’t like lime in general, and the cola ones just never taste right to me.
For the first time ever, I wish I was in the movie Groundhog Day, just so I could hit the “Meh” button over and over and over and over. Worst Meh Ever!
Happened across these in my local market recently. Oddly on sale for 75% off. Bought one bag, tried them, went back and bought 3 more to share. Flavors are red licorice, cotton candy, bubble gum, and buttered popcorn which I thought would be disgusting but turned out to be pretty awesome.
Pretty much anything cotton candy flavored works for me. Except these. Didn’t hate them but won’t ever buy them again.
I generally don’t like any candy that’s mostly sugar, or worse primarily corn syrup. I really dislike corn syrup and products made from it. The only candy I really like that doesn’t involve good quality chocolate is a Payday bar.
@moondrake Love Payday bars!! My favorite! I make my personal mailbox place keep them in stock just for me. Though they tend to sell out fast, even without my purchases…
I really feel bad for Mexican kids. They grow up thinking candy is some kind of dried fruit with chili powder poured over it. I don’t know how they eat that crap.
@cinoclav Be anywhere in southern CA and go into a liquor store. The places are lousy with that stuff. It’s actually nastier looking than I could ever describe.
I don’t know how licorice ended up being so hated. I put a big tub of black vines on my desk at work and I kid you not they were gone in less than a week - and no, I did not eat all of them.
I could choke down Circus Peanuts if my life depended on it, but black licorice is the worst.
@UncleVinny i am about the same but more on the side of couldn’t choke either down. All the rest I can eat (even “shadow-crave” a couple) but not these two.
When will Meh get around to multi-option selection polls?
/giphy i’m waiting
@UncleVinny Love black licorice, especially the old fashioned kind with less sugar and more licorice. But I also love fennel and anise.
@UncleVinny I went through the exact same thought process in deciding which one to vote for.
/giphy samesies
Once a year, I get an irresistible urge to eat a whole bag of Circus Peanuts. The rest of the year, they taste like Evil.
All the rest of the options are tolerable at all times.
@simplersimon - That’s the way I feel about candy corn. But that’s because I forgot what Circus Peanuts are:
@aetris oh! The sponges! Those aren’t peanuts.
@InnocuousFarmer - That’s the texture, all right - a sort of fossilized-sponge mouthfeel with a weird flavor, not sure WHAT it’s supposed to be. They are to peanuts what candy corn is to corn.
No such thing.
@Ignorant living up to your username, I see
@simplersimon
Never fails.
@ignorant.
You people are monsters
You folks voting for Bit-o-Honey need to leave.
@regnowsin if there are two go-to candies, they are Lemonheads and Bit-o-Honey.
@regnowsin Have you tried chocolate bit-o-honey? I recently found that and a chocolate version of caramel creams (which I love) and tried both. They were really good. Of course probably not better than the original, but really good.
@mehbee I’m intrigued. I may have to look for them.
@regnowsin Apart from the fact that I hate the taste the extreme glueiness makes me fear for my fillings
American black licorice is pretty sweet… you all should try the real black licorice.
mmmmmm… sweet and salty.
@thismyusername I bought a bag of that last month when I was in Europe- threw most of it out. American black licorice for the win.
@sammydog01 I mean I would expect nothing less from someone who ADMITS to enjoying circus peanut candy foam.
@sammydog01 there is no such thing as any black licorice for the win.
@mfladd Sorry, but black licorice is still better than eating pieces of chalk.
@Nitewatch Congrats on finding something it takes better than…must have been a long, hard search (grin)
@thismyusername @f00l Can I play too? I have a very bad song but it shows mostly good candy.
@WTFsunshine well it’s sorta a compilation of songs? so I suppose it works… was expecting something more like…
@thismyusername Agree - you’re both better at it than me. I was going to go with “Pour some sugar on me” but then I found the other one. Bad decisions on my part.
@WTFsunshine a fine choice…
Why did you list all the best candy in the poll? Except peeps, which I do like, but they aren’t candy.
@madmod20061 I can see your point, but then…what are peeps, if not candy?
@dave little bites of marshmallowy delights coated with sugar to create heaven??? So…snacks?
@dave evil. Peeps are evil. Entertaining to microwave, not suggested for consumption. That’s what the bag says, right?
I love each and every candy on that list- especially circus peanuts.
@sammydog01 - Me too. Almost. It’s practically a list of my favorites except licorice and peeps.
Nom nom Neccos.
@sammydog01
@sammydog01 Do you eat Good and Plenty? That stuff is so good…and plenty.
@mehbee They are the best! Do you chew them whole or bite the coating off first?
@sammydog01 me too! except valentine hearts. Remind me of tums.
Won’t eat any thing with peanut butter in it, I loves black licorice Mmmmm, and I hate candy corn

@WTFsunshine I don’t believe I’ve ever met anyone who actually likes black licorice. I don’t even like it when they use star anise in my pho because it reminds me of that vile black goo.
@ruouttaurmind We have obviously never met. Anything licorice is my favorite (second to really good chocolate).
@ruouttaurmind I like it, especially Good and Plenty candy
@ImTheDoctor @mehbee, ok, you guys are just messing with me now. Especially @ImTheDoctor. I mean, how can you even put licorice in the same sentence as really good chocolate?
@ruouttaurmind My Daddy use to chew Beemans black licorice gum and I use to buy it for him but they’ve discontinued the product. Parma Violets. It’s about the same size and shape as Smarties, but it’s flavoured of violet. It tastes like the smell of that powder old ladies use.
@ruouttaurmind I want some of those. I didn’t know they existed.
@ruouttaurmind - Reminds me I used to love these:
Haven’t seen them in forever.
@KDemo OMG, Flavingys bonbon de Anis! It’s like the WORST possible combination of old lady powder and black licorice!
@sammydog01 Check your local World Market or British market.
@ruouttaurmind I always buy weird stuff when I see it, so one day I happened upon these in a gas station on a road trip:
They were so vintage looking I couldn’t resist. They seem similar to Parma violets but larger and square. They tasted like sucking on my grandma’s perfume.

@sammydog01 Amazon, is there anything you don’t sell??
Parma Violets on Amz
@djslack
Right? LMAO!
Yes, C. Howard’s Violets are like the posh version of Parma. They also make “scented gums” that are very unique.
You came across those in the states? I haven’t seen C. Howard’s since we left Dorset!
@djslack
I keep reading this and LOL 'till my sides hurt. The dogs think I’m insane.
@ruouttaurmind Yes. There’s a gas station right off the interstate in Lecompte, LA that had them. (In case you’re ever that way.) According to the wrapper, they are from New York state.

Lime Lifesavers.
Is it just me or do chick-o-sticks taste more like peanut butter than chicken sticks?
@thismyusername chic-o-sticks!!! I love them so much. I have got to get off this thread…lol
@thismyusername
I like the coconut, they are good.
Horehound. Gross.
Those friggin’ evil tasting jelly beans.
I hope no one ever holds a gun to my head and forces me to try the taste of stipper.
@2many2no Well, I certainly haven’t run across those interesting flavors, but I must say I absolutely detest buttered popcorn flavored Jelly Belly. Gag-worthy.
@heartny If those aren’t bad enough…
It’s a game, the colors match, so you take a chance.
@2many2no wait. The bottom right has no winner.
@ConradHilton it’s how you determine who your real friends are
Now and Later
All lemon flavored candy is the worst candy.
Black licorice is the only flavor that works with the texture of jelly beans.
@Oneroundrobb Weirdo!
I like them all but I only eat Black Licorice and Candy Corn on a semi-occasional basis, usually as the result of others rejecting them. My wife LOVES Violet and Rose candies – we even have syrups to flavor various beverages like 7-Up.

I love Necco wafers
@CaptAmehrican Me too. I occasionally go for the all chocolate roll.
@CaptAmehrican for those of us who cant remember what necco wafers are:
/image Necco wafer
And now i remeber. K, yea, don’t like but would “Shadow eat” some if a bowl was on my Nana’s coffee table.
@CaptAmehrican - The clove ones are my favorites.

Candy Corn is the grossest candy on earth. How can any one vote for something else. People try to force that stuff on kids. SOOO EVIL!!
@Araxen Ever checkout the ingredients of candy corn? Corn syrup and carnauba wax. Yum!
Peeps then candy corn. The rest aren’t that bad on the list.
I voted black licorice, and I am allergic to peanuts.
@InnocuousFarmer don’t worry, i doubt Circus Peanut have even a molecule of peanut in them.

@mollama heheheh. In that case, I’ll eat stale dish sponges all day, but black licorice, no thanks.
… that image is horrifying.
@mollama Huh, I had no idea they had flavor in them.
I love black licorice, and really just about anything in that family of flavors. Except for that salted Scandinavian stuff. What the entire hell is the idea with that crap?
Really, the worst for me is lime- or cola-flavored candies. I don’t like lime in general, and the cola ones just never taste right to me.
@dannybeans I used to hate the Scandinavian stuff, but I ate it ironically and accidentally acquired a taste for it…
@dannybeans Lime candy has all but vanished and been replaced with green apple. Bleh.
For the first time ever, I wish I was in the movie Groundhog Day, just so I could hit the “Meh” button over and over and over and over. Worst Meh Ever!
Necco’s and candy hearts are basically the same thing… different shape.
@lseeber I don’t think you can get chocolate candy hearts, though…
/image chocolate necco
@brhfl That is true. Never seen a chocolate candy heart.

@Fuzzalini The taffy? I bought mine at Giant market near me but you can find them online.

@cinoclav Giant carries the blue not-cheese-balls too.
I generally don’t like any candy that’s mostly sugar, or worse primarily corn syrup. I really dislike corn syrup and products made from it. The only candy I really like that doesn’t involve good quality chocolate is a Payday bar.
@moondrake I don’t care for Payday but like you… I try to avoid corn syrup like the plague. They’ve got it in just about everything.
@moondrake Love Payday bars!! My favorite! I make my personal mailbox place keep them in stock just for me. Though they tend to sell out fast, even without my purchases…
What! You only listed the best candies there are.
Are Necco Wafers supposed to taste the way they do? Because…bleah! Tums are tastier, and at least those fight indigestion.
What’s with all the black licorice hate? SO delicious. Fight me.
How did Mary Janes not make the list? Heinous.
Unless you include Japanese candy. Bringing seaweed and prawn really up the bad candy game.
@Mavyn I don’t like Mary Janes either. Funny, they’re now made by Necco.
I really feel bad for Mexican kids. They grow up thinking candy is some kind of dried fruit with chili powder poured over it. I don’t know how they eat that crap.
@Fuzzalini I uh, kind of want to try that.
@Fuzzalini Tamarind is weird.
@cinoclav Be anywhere in southern CA and go into a liquor store. The places are lousy with that stuff. It’s actually nastier looking than I could ever describe.
I’m actually offended by this poll.
Not only is peeps the worst candy, that’s fine, but EVERYTHING else on the poll is literally the best candy.
#'s 1, 4, 5, 6, and 7 all suck in my opinion.
@Kidsandliz See…a “pick all that applies” button would be so much easier!
@WTFsunshine You have my vote for this…
I don’t know how licorice ended up being so hated. I put a big tub of black vines on my desk at work and I kid you not they were gone in less than a week - and no, I did not eat all of them.
I can’t read about circus peanuts without thinking of this series of Achewood comics. http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=06072005
Toss up between Peeps and Candy Corn
