@YahSah15 A woot-off (synonyms include confidence scheme, scam and stratagem) is an attempt to defraud a person or group after first gaining their confidence, used in the classical sense of trust. Woot-offs exploit characteristics of the human psyche such as dishonesty, honesty, vanity, compassion, credulity, irresponsibility, naïveté and greed. An individual who operates such woot-offs is known as a bag of crap, woot-man or woot artist, and such people can operate alone or in concert with others.
Are there any other Woot! fans who find that they visit the site less and less nowadays? I used to go to Woot! daily and start looking for the Woot! Off on the 2nd or 3rd Tuesday every month. During a Woot! Off, I'd be F5'ing all day and my productivity would go down. I liked it because it was one new product each day. Then two. Then 4. Then 12, plus 20 or 30 weekly deals. It just sort of felt like I'd be better off browsing Amazon every day. But in the absence of something better, I returned faithfully every day. Then in July, meh.com came along and I discovered it 3 or 4 days after it debuted. By the third day, meh.com was the first site I viewed every morning, followed by Woot!. Then I started to visit Woot! only every few days. Then maybe once a week. Just the other day I clicked there for the first time in several weeks. I was like, "Oh look, a Woot! Off. Meh."
(Observation: I know meh doesn't mind mentions of Woot!, but I did notice that the spell checker here flags "Woot" but does not flag meh.)
@billchase2 I check deals.woot everyday...wish I didn't. I haven't found a deal I wanted in the past 3 months. Wish Meh would launch a deal-based page...
@DeuceSevin "Are there any other Woot! fans who find that they visit the site less and less nowadays?" I think that would pretty much be every wooter who has migrated over here to meh.
@DeuceSevin I go daily and buy way more there (and at DailySteals) than I do here. Of course, both of those have lots of new stuff every day whereas here it's Just One Dammit, but I still find lots of cool surprises at both of those sites whereas here it's knives, speaker docks, vacuums, and As Seen On TV. I'm here to watch Meh grow and get better and because the forums have lots of cool and interesting people, much like the old Woot forums, but I'm not particularly invested in buying here.
@DeuceSevin my reasons for abandoning woot were two-fold. First, they lost their uniqueness after the Amazon buy out, and second, they increased their sales of (air) gun, and gun related items immediately after the Sandy Hook incident. I, along with many other woofers suggested they refrain from those types of offerings for a while, and they did just the opposite. Feel free to look at their sales prio to and after December, 2012, and you'll see a significant uptick of gun related offerings. Their lack of community sensitivity was the last straw for me.
@billchase2 I agree that Amazon ruined them. However, I started hearing the "Amazon ruined Woot!" chants shortly after they bought them, and I don't think they really ruined it until about a year or so ago. They changed it almost immediately, but it took them a while to ruin it.
@pitamuffin I used to check every day religiously, and don't get me started on woot-offs. I rememember my frist Bag-O-Carp, such a glorious day. I remember when it was just Woot, Woot Sellout, Woot Wine, and Maybe Woot Shirt. Then they started adding Woot Tech, Woot Computer, Woot Kids, Woot REALLY!!!!!! Then they had all these side deals below the main deal. It became just another ecommerce site. Kind of makes me think of the Groupon product page. Gag! Groupon great for local deals for food or activities not so great for products.
@Cinoclav Heh!, though I did do the whole first sucker/last wooter thing again last night and a couple years ago, I did go on a shirt.woot hiatus that lasted until they brought out some purple AA shirts. PURPLE!
I'm in the same ballpark used to be daily wooter. Now not so much. Tbh I don't even do the woot offs. I never try for crap cause you loose out so much you kinda say this ain't fucking worth it. I do however love their all day play action set ups. Like world of woot.
Funny story from yesterday. I scored two Bags of Crap. One for me, and then one for my neighbor. He gave me his login info because I am so good at getting crap. They were only selling 10 at a time yesterday, so this was a pretty awesome accomplishment in my opinion. I'm pretty sure it's gonna suck real bad because I haven't got a good Bag of Crap since the 00's.
@dave what I found (and was mimicked in the woot forums) was that the community pages were displaying the new item well before the main page, so if you refreshed there and were quick you'd be good. I had mine purchased before it even hit the main page.. Granted I had to try eight times, the site logs you out after like 20 mins so if you don't log in every time you get kicked.. Which I think made the apps pointless.
@dave I tried the community page for awhile but never got one. Once, because Woot made me re-login at checkout, which of course was too slow. Both times I got the crap was when I went to my cart page, refreshed from there, and then clicked on the crap when it showed up. I don't know why it worked both times I did that. Maybe there is something special about the cart page? No bot, no woot checker, no app. Just Chrome and fast clicking.
@phatmass i got 1 for me, my mum, my, sis in law, and my bro. 2 of those were first sucker. Boom. Wootstalker and refresh community page. Having wantone.woot in another tab didn't help.
We had an avid Woot household for a couple years. When a Woot Off happened it controlled us for a couple days. Loved buying all kinds of stupid shit, think bacon salt, as well as a good deal here and there. During Woot Off the forum was a great place to hang out. So much fun! Woot changed our Xmas giving to where we gave bags of crap, though they were usually stuffed with some awesome stuff. We made Woot clocks. I framed the email I got for my first BOC win. We collected monkeys like mad. After Amazon took over we drifted away from Woot. It changed and we left. I seldom check it anymore, and the Woot Off is a bore. Thank god for Meh!
@Teripie Yeah, Meh is going to be awesome for the next couple years, until they get bought out. Then we will have the dark time in our lives when we all wait for the third rendition of the deal a day site.
All this talk about BOCs made me go back and look at my Woot account. On Mar 22, 2012, during a Woot Off I won 9 BOC's. On my account it says they were all denied. WRONG! I got all 9 of them. Wonder why they erased the evidence of this?
@dashcloud Woot ... admitting to improve? I'm doubting so. After the shirt.woot school crate issues, I skipped the Christmas crate and the most recent Valentines crate. Not worth taking such a chance.
Explain woot-off, please. I'm new to the scene.
@YahSah15 Every time an item sells out, Woot lists a new one.
@dashcloud Not necessarily true, the items are on a timer.

@phatmass basicly.
@phatmass this definition only applies to woot after the acquisition by Amazon.com
@phatmass Yeah, sumpin' like that.

@DeuceSevin I rarely visit at all anymore and I was a daily visitor since 2004. Meh has my business now. Amazon ruined Woot, IMO.
@billchase2 I check deals.woot everyday...wish I didn't. I haven't found a deal I wanted in the past 3 months. Wish Meh would launch a deal-based page...

@DeuceSevin I don't even check shirt.woot everyday anymore, let alone the main or other subsites.

@narfcake That's like a crack addict scrolling through his phone and ignoring the number of his dealer.
@Cinoclav Heh!, though I did do the whole first sucker/last wooter thing again last night and a couple years ago, I did go on a shirt.woot hiatus that lasted until they brought out some purple AA shirts. PURPLE!
@DeuceSevin Pretty much only go for the wine. And even that… it's been a while.
@narfcake shirt woot should be renamed shit.woot
They are not that creative anymore the themes are always over done and not that funny
Holy thread bump, @somf69! FWIW, shit.woot.com redirects to shirt.
Some designs are getting stale, but the real shittiness is with the blanks. 3 weeks is now my record for a debut-to- thrift-store-rack find.
I'm in the same ballpark used to be daily wooter. Now not so much. Tbh I don't even do the woot offs. I never try for crap cause you loose out so much you kinda say this ain't fucking worth it. I do however love their all day play action set ups. Like world of woot.

@phatmass Curious, just quick clicking, or do you use wootstalker or some other kind of bot? (Or is it a secret?)
@dave what I found (and was mimicked in the woot forums) was that the community pages were displaying the new item well before the main page, so if you refreshed there and were quick you'd be good. @dave @phatmass - the I scored for my husband was straight up chrome and fast clicking.
@joedel263 I noticed that some time ago so now I will wait in the forums when items change to try for a BOC
@phatmass I scored one the other night too. Did it by refreshing the community page using chrome.
@phatmass i got 1 for me, my mum, my, sis in law, and my bro. 2 of those were first sucker. Boom. Wootstalker and refresh community page. Having wantone.woot in another tab didn't help.
@phatmass has their been any real good craps lately? I have entirely given up unless they do a world of woot type special
Pretty funny shirt.

@Teripie Yeah, Meh is going to be awesome for the next couple years, until they get bought out. Then we will have the dark time in our lives when we all wait for the third rendition of the deal a day site.
@Teripie perfect answer
I thought the same thing!! i couldn't figure out how to post a pic of the shirt. We luv Meh, why woudn't they?
Me and my fiance both got bag of craps yesterday! No bot, just quick fingers. There are a few tricks to improve your chances though..
this shirt just means that one person says love and the other person says meh
All this talk about BOCs made me go back and look at my Woot account. On Mar 22, 2012, during a Woot Off I won 9 BOC's. On my account it says they were all denied. WRONG! I got all 9 of them. Wonder why they erased the evidence of this?
I still tend to look to see what wine.woot has.
I just made the mistake of buying the NFL mystery bag.
I should have taken the 15 bucks and thrown it out the window. Shame on me.......
@somf69 Did they say it would be better than the last NFL mystery bag?
@dashcloud Woot ... admitting to improve? I'm doubting so. After the shirt.woot school crate issues, I skipped the Christmas crate and the most recent Valentines crate. Not worth taking such a chance.
@narfcake Same here.
I didn't want to start a new thread for this because it sucks so bad so I'm just posting my latest Woot Bag of Crap here:

So excited when I get one... So regretful when it arrives.
@phatmass Yet, that's worth about 5x what my last one was. The Swiss Tech tool is worth about $10 and is actually useful.
@phatmass whooo! Another disappointed crapper. Disappointing wooters, one crap at a time!
@phatmass Sub-meh.
