Winter returns for a day or so
8Not what I was in the mood for. : (
My toes are quite cold. They are bitching about it. Maybe it has to do with the sandals I’m wearing.
It is so cold/windy I seriously need gloves at the moment. Was out for like 5 min and my fingers are now a bit numb.

If it makes you feel any warmer, currently it’s 16 degrees in southern Iowa.
@msklzannie
I yeild.
We have a wee taste of leftover winter.
You come from The Land Of Winter. Your weather is superior in misery.
Yup, it is cold, wet and rainy here
Currently 28 (feels like 15)…
but “they” say we could make it all the way to 50 this afternoon.
Enough is too much already!
Supposedly going to snow, but I think it’s too warm. Not too bad here in NJ.
@Seeds
Are you all still in Maine?
@f00l Nah, Jersey for the foreseeable future.
@Seeds
Well at least you got moved. And you can always visit Maine pretty easily when you need to. I hope.
How are you two liking the “across the river” big city life?
You all like Manhattan? (Not the tony, expensive places. The -fascinating-and-no-one knows-how-people-do-this-and-keep-going places
It was a wonderland (sometimes a dark wonderland, but still…) when I was there. Always stuff going on. Always people to meet.
For the first time in my life, when I lived there, I wasn’t a mostly deliberately solitary introvert (with like 4 friends or something). It was all just so fascinating, I wanted never to sleep and wanted never to stay at home (unless I had just been to a bookstore).
In terms of fascinating people, the longer you stay in the area, the better it gets. Meet a much of downtown-living-on-nothing folk, and Brooklyn and Harlem people, if you have the time and energy.
Meet the people who seem to have no home or visible means of a regular life, but are productive, brilliant, and crazy. These folk should be found in corners and niches all over.
And the food …
Fucking expensive being there tho.
@f00l Yeah, we’ve been having great time. Much easier to get out and more motivation since there’s always something we want to do. Interestingly, it’s been good for @polksaladannie’s stress levels too. We saw an off broadway musical put on by a crazy guy the other week which was great.
It is more expensive, but there’s also a lot more money coming in here than there would be in Maine. Jen can get a much better education here too.
@PolkSaladAnnie @Seeds
Just wait until you take get to really know the place.
Locals seem never to have time to do tourist stuff unless they have houseguests.
Not that the tourist stuff isn’t fantastic. It is.
Just that there is so much local and people stuff to do that is also great and that tourists would never hear about or get invited to.
NYkers and people from that area have such fascinating minds, and unusual personal domains of interest and expertise.
@f00l I know what you mean. I’ve never really done the touristy stuff. I’ve only seen the Statue of Liberty as I was traveling into or out of the city. I’ve never seen the Empire State Building. I’ve always had something going on when I was in the city.
The one time I did, I went to Times Square. It’s a terrible place.
@Seeds Can’t remember if you’re beer drinkers or not, but there’s some fine breweries in NJ that I can tell you about if you’re interested.
@dashcloud We are and I am
@Seeds Cape May Brewing Company & Third State are both good.
I brought my GF’s car in this morning to have the tires changed over (to summer tires). And I had to laugh - there’s two inches of snow of the roof of the car.
@f00l
Light snow this morning in Wichita Falls Tx.
Usually the first Sat in April would be a day for doing yardwork and getting a sunburn.
@f00l
Hi!!!
To everyone in Florida and SoCal!
And Fucking Fuck You, Fuckers!
@f00l
Warm wishes from the comfy yellow-orange areas!
/image sunshine
@f00l any day now…
Too fucking lazy to crop the photo, sorry.
@f00l
Just repeat this to yourself over and over.
A balmy 21 degrees here. I hope the temps will rise enough today to melt the snow and ice.
Added: A couple of weeks of almost-constant rain, then a hard freeze, more rain, and a second hard freeze. HBO is in the middle of filming season 3 of True Detective. Welcome to spring in the Ozarks, film crew!
Wasn’t up 2 hrs ago but I presume it was about the same here in Alabama. It’s 42 now but the high is only 44. Which sucks after high 70s most of last week. Although… maybe I’ll get a little reprieve from having to mow the grass for a couple of days.
I blame the Goaty @shahnm.
Hey Goat!
If you wanna leave your batteries out on the porch tomorrow, it’s cool, ya know.
Literally!

@f00l Nah. That’s what fridges are for!
It’s lovely here. Trying to get motivated to take a dog for a walk. Made myself a nice tomato, spinach and goat cheese omelet for breakfast and my tummy is, as usual, unhappy about eggs. Need to get out this morning, though. The weatherman said the wind was going to be bad this weekend, which means we may be getting that cold front in a day or two. They usually come in on the teeth of the wind.
@moondrake Your thermometer provides TMI…
@shahnm I like all of it except for the alerts. I already have 2 phones, an Echo dot and a Google Home that shout at me when some kid goes missing 900 miles away.
@moondrake @shahnm So, if I read this display correctly -
It’s 9:18:46 AM on Saturday April 7th, 2018 and we are in contact with aliens. The outside is holding steady at 70.7 F and a crisp 13% relative humidity and you have good radio reception. The indoors is falling from a balmy 73.4F and your nose is itching from a ridiculous 1% relative humidity. You have a daisy on your lawn, but it’s not growing, and some blue stuff is coming out of blue clouds. You have no forecast, which sounds dreadful. You have an unfortunate sensitivity to the proteins in chicken eggs, you watched too much TV last night, your cousin is still annoyed at the comment you made last weekend and your car is 304 miles overdue for its oil change. At least your dog is happy; good thing you went for a walk when you did. In a short time, you will get an alert about some kid who went missing exactly 900 miles away. Don’t ask me how I know he’s exactly 900 miles away if he’s supposed to be missing, but I’d look in the treehouse, just like last time.
@mehcuda67 @moondrake @shahnm Bravo!
We dipped below freezing in Kentucky this morning, but we only got about a half inch of melty snow, not the two to four inches they were forecasting earlier in the week (when the high broke 80).
It’s mostly melted now, but this was our evening yesterday.
umm… Blame the army? they went and stationed my buddy’s Little bro at Ft.Hood.
He’s From here in Ohio, but their mom moved to Alaska… so yeah… he’s bringing the cold with him, let’s go with that…

It’s snowing. SNOWING!
@sammydog01 send it to me, please.
@RiotDemon I’ll go scrape some off the deck for you. It’s covered.
Some icy snow yesterday morning, and none today (despite a chance of 1-3 inches).
FWIW, a sudden late season cold snap can often be a good thing when it comes to insects and weeds. In my area, if we get a series of warm days in the late winter/early spring followed by an unexpected freeze, it will kill off a large percentage of crickets and several varieties of weeds which spring up during the Feb/March rains.
Don’t think of today as the 8th of April. Think of it as the 98th day of January. Weather problem solved. You are welcome.
@Kidsandliz Thanks for that. Makes me more cheerful considering it’s still snowing.
It just started snowing again. I live in the south. It will be over 100 soon.
/giphy sigh
@sammydog01
Did you get a lot of rain this winter and early spring?
If so then you will likely not have prolonged over 100F. More lots of high 90’s and lots of humidity <fun!> and lots of skeeters.
And a high water table and prob no drought.
That’s what I’m expecting/hoping here and I would guess we are usually dryer than the VA/NC area.
Yep, it’s winter again in SoCal. It’s going to be 96 today.
94 today. So exhausting to use a shovel and dig my way out through all this sunshine.
@narfcake Yeah especially when you need to use a leaf blower first to get all the hot air out of the way first so your shovels of snow don’t melt on your sidewalk and then potentially ice over when the sun goes down.
It’s in the 80s today. My turtles are sunbathing on the deck for the first time since October. Hello summer.
@sammydog01 You have turtles?? Are they big ones?
@Kidsandliz One is pretty big, one medium, one small. Like the three bears.
@sammydog01 Cool. How long have you had them? I hear they can live for decades.
@Kidsandliz Almost 20 years. I hope one of my kids agrees to take them when I die.
@sammydog01 Wow. Maybe a zoo will if they will not. Do they act like pets - things like know you, etc.?
And I just pulled a tick out of my bra. I love you, summer in the south.
@sammydog01 Hope you don’t get lyme. I got that last summer when I missed a tick.
@Kidsandliz It was a lone star tick. I was gonna give @f00l a hard time until I found out they’re not from Texas.
@f00l @sammydog01 Hmm thinking you were making a joke and got it in TX I read about it. If it bit you it can make you a vegan!
@sammydog01
I’m almost positive that that’s not where one is supposed to keep ticks.
Michigan weatherman rant on air
Watch till the end.
@f00l That was terrifying.
@f00l hahaha… love it!
/youtube pete seeger muddy water
Nah, doesn’t have much of anything to do with winter, but lordy, I miss Pete Seeger. Listen all the way through. I remember CBS not letting it play on the Smothers Brothers, and then changing their mind and letting it go. This is that performance.
70 here raining like a sonofagun had to turn on the A/C it got stuffy.
First tornado warning of the season. Shit.
@sammydog01
If storms are increasing in power, frequency, and volatility, then that means more (and more powerful) hailstorms, tornados, and hurricanes, I suppose.
We seem to be getting “more”, based on my own rather unreliable and unverified instincts.
@f00l
Could you (and would you) mail some hail to me?
@PlacidPenguin
You know me. If I collect some spare hail today, I might get it mailed in the next decade or three.
So … Sure. Whisper me a USPS verified address.
@sammydog01 Shoot… about my 5th.
@lseeber Florida?
@sammydog01 Alabama. Flash floods day before yesterday too. Ugh. May have the insurance co check my roof since its been pummeled by hail several times recently.
I recharged the AC system in my wife’s car today… It was only 50 degree in the garage.
