@somf69@yakkoTDI in some climates the nothing but socks might work. Maybe a robe. But I think most of us are in long-sleeve maybe 2 layers territory. And let me check… Weatherproof brand heavy cotton sweats I got at Costco on clearance a while back.
@ircon96@PooltoyWolf I’ll also be worrying about dumbshits setting off fireworks in our tinder dry area - yesterday was super windy and it was the 3-year anniversary of the big terrible “Marshall Fire” nearby. Luckily it’s calm today so far.
@ircon96@Kyeh@PooltoyWolf I lived there during the Marshall fire; scary times: 3 wildfire evacuations warning in the first 9 months of living in Colorado. Stay safe Kyeh and enjoy some Illegal Pete’s
@ircon96@Kyeh@PooltoyWolf@wooterondo One of the few things that a lot of Texas counties get right is a ban on fireworks outside of designated safe locations when the fire danger is high. Some counties just make the ban county-wide with no exceptions because they can’t make anyplace safe enough. This year, I don’t think any of the ones that allow sales have placed any restrictions due to lack of moisture. (Houston nominally bans possession and use, but as I sit here composing this shortly after 10PM on NYE, the sound of fireworks in the distance is pretty much continuous.)
@Kyeh Happy New Year! How’s it going with the fireworks? The rednecks don’t wait for midnight around here, they sprinkle the noise pollution throughout the evening, much like cow manure. I hope they’re not doing that near you, it must be so scary! At least it’s been raining here & the high(ish) winds don’t start until Thurs…allegedly. The weather people around here haven’t exactly been impressive lately in the accuracy department.
@ircon96 Well, nothing so far … but it’s not midnight yet. Maaaybe they realize that we’re in a high fire danger situation right now?
And Happy New Year to you!!!
@ircon96@PooltoyWolf@werehatrack@wooterondo
And I just called the non-emergency police number to report a series of fireworks going off; I can’t tell exactly where but there’s a park nearby so probably there. He said they’d send someone to check but of course if a police car shows up the miscreants will scatter. Just hoping it’s cold enough - 19 degrees - that sparks won’t ignite anything.
Dunno. I didn’t last year. But then, I was still recovering from surgery at that point. (For that matter, I still am; the nerve impairment takes a devil of a long time to shake out when this much is done all at once. But the results were worth it.)
@ratman I hear you, i managed almost 17 years, which was plenty for me! So true about time off-- trying to reset my schedule to spend time with the daywalkers in my life was inadvisable at best.
Eating dinner, maybe playing board games, visiting with our kids at a close friend’s house. Hoping I have the energy to stay awake until midnight. We’ll see!
Probably
In a slight break from the theme weddings the younger set has been putting us oldsters through of late, the latest former girl-child has decided to celebrate her JoP wedding tonight at a riverside bar. She is a live wire and the fireworks should be a good symbol of what the groom is in for (I’m sure he already knows!) I am planning to drive home immediately afterwards or sooner so I’m hoping to get away with a champagne toast and no countdown shots…
@piiink1 Thank you! My niece is a Pediatric Oncology Pharmacologist. She cares so much for children and their families as they go through unimaginable hardships and trauma. God bless all who give so much to help others.
@Star2236 He didn’t disappoint–a few shots of tequila & it’s non-stop schoolgirl giggles. One of these years, they’re gonna have to have supplemental oxygen on standby for him.
I turned down attending a jazz venue in Chicago tonight because I want to stay fresh for my 3 hour morning yoga class to ring in the New Year w/ 108 sun salutations
I was sleeping because I’ve been sick and my nausea meds knocked me out but I woke up seconds after the ball dropped in NY, the clock still said 12:00!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I hope not. After 4 hours I hav…Oh…you mean for the changing of the year. Sure, why not.
@yakkoTDI Cheeky wanker!
I will be toasting in the new year for many different time zones.
Nice dinner at 8, then freestyling from there.
Sure thing!! Gonna snag me the 1st IRK of 2025 baby!!
Well sure. That’s when Meh resets in the east…
@shahnm Good answer!
Still trying to figure out what I’ll be wearing while sitting on my couch
@somf69 while on you own couch i believe nothing is an option. saves you the trouble
@somf69 Socks?

@pmarin @somf69 @yakkoTDI @spacemart On behalf of any future victims–er, i mean visitors–could you at least put down a towel?
/youtube repo man store day night don’t mean shit
Yes, as I usually do.
@Kyeh -brofist-
@PooltoyWolf
@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf It’s not even a struggle like it is for those daywalker normies!
@ircon96 @PooltoyWolf True!

@ircon96 @Kyeh Surprised they haven’t banned fireworks outright there.
@ircon96 @PooltoyWolf Oh, they HAVE, but there’s always some bonehead who does it anyway.
@ircon96 @Kyeh Of course…

@ircon96 @PooltoyWolf @wooterondo
Oh wow! I’ve never had to evacuate but got a pre-evac warning once years ago. Glad you made it through all 3 times!

@ircon96 @PooltoyWolf @werehatrack @wooterondo Fireworks can’t be sold here either but Wyoming isn’t far away and you can buy pretty much anything up there, I think.

It’ll be midnight somewhere.
Going to the hockey game with my hubby, daughter and a friend. Maybe play some board games afterwards until midnight.

I’ll be at work, like I am overnight five nights a week.
@ratman Been there, can’t say i miss it, although it ruined my already-nocturnal sleep pattern for life. You have my sympathy.
@ircon96 I’ve been at it for most of 35 years now.
I wouldn’t know how to do anything else.
I’m completely thrown when taking time off.
@ratman I hear you, i managed almost 17 years, which was plenty for me! So true about time off-- trying to reset my schedule to spend time with the daywalkers in my life was inadvisable at best.
I almost always do, soooo. Yes?

@togle
Noice!
I stay up WAY past midnight almost every day, so. (I’m nocturnal.)
Eating dinner, maybe playing board games, visiting with our kids at a close friend’s house. Hoping I have the energy to stay awake until midnight. We’ll see!
Annual party at a friend’s place!
Amazing homemade food, great company, and fun conversations!

Nope. I have trouble staying up 'til 10pm. No trouble waking by 5am though.
@romellex exactly
correct answer is ‘in my time zone, hell no’
/showme a hell no
yes, I’ll be at work (nightshift at a hospital)
@piiink1 Thank you! My niece is a Pediatric Oncology Pharmacologist. She cares so much for children and their families as they go through unimaginable hardships and trauma. God bless all who give so much to help others.
@accelerator oh wow pediatric oncology is tough, your niece is amazing for doing that!
being stuck in the hospital is particularly hard during the holidays, we try to do what we can to make our patients feel as comfortable as possible
I stay up until midnight every night!
Go to the top of a freezing hill where we can see the fireworks downtown without having to be jostled by the drunks downtown
I have tickets.
@rockblossom ^^^EXCELLENT PLAN^^^
@rockblossom
I got those tix too!
Yup, usually watch Anderson cooper getting smashed on tv. Only time I watch him. As the night gets longer he gets more smashed and more funny.
@Star2236 He didn’t disappoint–a few shots of tequila & it’s non-stop schoolgirl giggles. One of these years, they’re gonna have to have supplemental oxygen on standby for him.
I’m gonna try, but not making any promises. Will be in my jammies just in case I can’t make it. Best to be prepared!
might do the usual to stay up long enough to play wordle and that’s it.
The real question is will all the pyromaniacs outside keep me up until midnight…again?
KuoH
@kuoh only till midnight?
They usually keep them going till about 3am around here.
Them they set off their leftovers for a few more nights
@kuoh I got confused by actual thunder and lightning that was happening.
And when it was over and I started to fall asleep - fireworks.
I turned down attending a jazz venue in Chicago tonight because I want to stay fresh for my 3 hour morning yoga class to ring in the New Year w/ 108 sun salutations
